Saw Roy perform at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Cape Town in 1999. I was 14. He was gracious enough to take a picture with me.

I saw this lineup in DC back in 2000 I think. I saw the first show of the weekend and ended up seeing every set they played all weekend. They were so smokin it was disgusting!

Why do the great ones have to leave us so soon? Where there is smoke there is fire!!!!!

those years Roy was reaching another level!!! I love "With Tenors of Our Time' and "Family" but on 2000's he was another beast.. that project with Herbie Hancock and Michael Brecker was something fantastic.

That Larry Willis cadenza just pulls so much out of me while pouring so much into me at the same time.

Dude never seemed to hit a harsh or shrill note, even when playing a crazy solo like this one. The King of Tone.

Yes sir! My favorite of all time, because of that one facet of his playing. No wrong anything. A true class act.
@MR-cc7zl4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHuntermoss Yes..there's only a handful (or less) of guys I can think of who combine that level of incredible technique with such feeling in their playing. Roy and Freddie Hubbard are probably my favorites among that elite group. Thanks for reminding me of this joint, it's been a while! God bless! ✌

@@MR-cc7zl Idk about Freddie, but Roy definitely has that
@williemakeit234611 ай бұрын
@@kennethreed8746Freddie definitely had that aspect in his playing in his prime. He was one of the greats that Roy studied and grafted from.

Hi Giveton, I found this video a long time ago on some foreign website that I don't remember. After I had seen "Circus" uploaded on KZbin from that same performance, I was on a hunt down to find the rest of the concert, haha. I do remember seeing a video of them playing Caryisms too. I will look for that one again and if I find it (hopefully, lol) I will send it to you!
