This tour was the last time I saw him, Bolton Albert Halls (Town Hall), in a rather formal setting. There were attendant seat usher ladies, plush velvet velour seats, drinks ordered for the interval etc. etc. Half way through a mesmerising set, with a sound far greater than any one man rock n roll band, a lucky front row punter passed him a fat one, Roy duly accepted and announced there was a far more important planning committee going on next door. We all knew different as he shifted into a rendition of Berliners that shook the Peregrines off the Town Hall clock.

Roy has truly one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. His vocal range and stylings are remarkable!

Along with John Martyn he surely is the master of the Echoplex. The text of this song really make you think. As I remember it, death by hanging was still considered possible and just by lots of governments (even by some government members in UK). Roy Harper wrote a song about judicial murder. I still think it is one of the best song made about this.

No one has mentioned the guitar sound which is sublime..I saw Roy touring this album in ‘83 and a few more times in the 80s and he was normally playing an Adamus - or rather one of two, he had one in normal tuning and one in open D - however this is not one of those..
