I see a lot of people talking shit about Roy shadowboxing in this video. Really? You think you can teach Roy Jones Jr something about shadowboxing? He's not fully extending his punches because that's not what he's doing it for. He's visualizing an opponent in front of him and working on positioning, movement and specific mini scenarios in his head like countering and drawing an opponent out. You can see when he's throwing 1-1-2 and then pulling straight back after the right hand. Then you see him switch it up by pulling back and rolling away to the side to change up the rhythm. If we were to put the workload in percentages, his body is working on 30% and his mind is on 70%. That's why he doesn't bother to follow through with the punches and raise up the heart rate - he's upgrading his software, rather than his hardware. Lastly, Roy is close to 50 years old. OF COURSE he's gonna slow down and at that age you need to slowly warm the body up before you do anything at 100%. All I'm saying is, let's not forget who we're talking about and appreciate a legend: Roy Jones freaking JR knows how to box. Y'all musta forgot.

The Hitman Sure and different fighters train differently. 8 years ago people were laughing at how Floyd Mayweather hits pads, saying that he was playing paddy cake. But that's a similar case, what works for you, works for you and not anyone else. I just think it's silly that people are laughing at how a P4P legend trains. Roy Jones forgot more about boxing than any of these trolls will ever know.

You would only be hyper extending your arms anyway if there's not a head or body to absorb the blow... but you are right as far as the mental aspect 100%... there's no need to fully extended.

The acronym “G.O.A.T” is usually thrown around to easily these days, but in the Case of Roy GOAT doesn’t do him justice..He’s Easily one of the top Five boxers who ever lived, no matter the weight class..
@ohtebowah7 жыл бұрын
I know you're trying to give Roy respect but your comment doesn't really make any sense lol
@hmackprotection17 жыл бұрын
ohtebowah, only to someone who wasn’t watching boxing Religiously from 1980 through 2018 does my comment not make any sense.. You have absolutely zero clue how overwhelmingly amazing Roy was for 12yrs Straight. He’s by far the greatest Middleweight of all time, & he’s without a doubt a top 5 pound for pound boxer who has ever lived. If you don’t understand that, then stop wasting time replying to me, take the time to utilize KZbin, go on a journey of discovery, & go watch the first 30 fights of Roy’s career, then I double fukin dare you to be 100% completely honest with yourself, & try, TRY to name 5 other boxers from any era that were greater than Roy..good luck
@ohtebowah7 жыл бұрын
Force Times Distance Equals ? Torque lmao i agree with you in that respect I've never ever seen any boxer like Roy in his prime. Your comment still doesn't make sense however. You say the term GOAT doesn't do him justice. But then you go on to say hes one of the top 5 of all time ("top 5" in bold). Both statements can't be true. Think it through buddy

It would be cool if the UFC lands an athlete like this. The skills are evolving quickly, but the limited tiers and talent pool are lacking, which means less of the weak are weeded out. Plus the amount money the lower class fighters get, a truly elite gifted athlete with choices will not pick MMA or boxing for that matter.

Usually when boxers retire they enjoy the life they earned and hardly ever train again. Maybe Open up their own boxing gym, go into business, or just enjoy time with their family. But then theres fighters like B-Hop, RJJ, Sugar Ray Leanoard who just cant let go. Im not saying its a bad thing but it must suck to be that much in love with the sport but not being physically able to be as great as you once were or Prove what you want to fans because your body cant handle it
@povang6 жыл бұрын
Roy could have retired a long time ago on all the money he made, but made the classic mistake all 'new money' makes and went broke due to overspending. He should have stopped fighting a decade ago, but money issues brought the old gladiator back to the Colosseum. Stay humble folks, even when you're rich. Its why 'truly' rich people are incredibly cheap, its why they're still rich.
