For those that haven't heard this; Elvis had said, Roy Orbison has "The Perfect Voice". Scholars suggest he had a three - four octave range and what one writer said, 'a glass-shattering falsetto". Regardless of all this, one only needs to listen to this man sing to know he is one the greatest of all time. Thank you Roy Orbison.
@patrickdevries62672 жыл бұрын
Elvis did not say that! He said "Roy is the best male singer" and that was at June 10 1972 in Madison Square Garden New York. Elvis said that because he was very humble and Roy was also a very close friend of Elivs and a reguilar seen guest at Graceland. Elvis said of many other singers they are the best, like for ex Fats Domino, Pat Boone. Now I like Roy Orbison but he is absolutely not of the level of Elvis. Elvis could surely sng like Roy, for ex with It's now or never, Surrender! Elvis is the most versatile singer ever, rock, ballads, country, blues, soul, even opera for ex with Hurt, How Great thou art at June 21 and 26 1977. Roy does not have a versatile voice, ok he is great in rock ballads, but rock 'n roll not so. Elvis is also the only entertainer taken up in all halls of fame and in every music style he had hits also someting which can not be said of Roy
@anthonyperkins35272 жыл бұрын
@@patrickdevries6267 Google it. It's exactly what Elvis said about Roy, "the most perfect voice". Also, take another look at my post. I didn't compare Roy to Elvis. Merely, making a positive comment about a singer who most people believe was one of the best of all time. No offense to Elvis. LOL
@sess122 Жыл бұрын
Sorry, but the "scholars" are wrong and I've never heard ANY vocalist with a 3 to 4 octave range, including Roy Orbison. For instance, his lowest note in this song is an "A" (singing the word, "call" at 0:06) and his highest is a "C" (singing the word, "dreams" at 02:40), which is a little over 2 octaves. Just to reach the 3rd octave ("A") would be an extremely high (for a male) falsetto, sounding like a "whistle" note. Not impossible but certainly very rare.

Bob Dylan called him an opera singer. Damn right he is. The way he uses his incredible technical voice (pitch, tone, range, vibrato) and most of all his phrasing paints songs in a way that is sublime. That vocal line at 2:20 its just other worldly, good luck anyone trying to sing that in the way he does, forget it. His stuff is like mini operas. Divine. And an incredibly beautiful man to boot.
