Rangers Colin & Laura Findlay stop by the nest and take Manaaki's weight first and then provide him fluids for hydration and give him a supplementary feeding! It appears that Colin gave him 14 pieces of a combination of fish and octopus in a large container. Manaaki handled the supp feeding like a champ! Our royal roundness is now full and content once again! Many thanks to the DOC rangers for taking care of Manaaki while GLY and L are out at sea!! 💕 💪🐠 Manaaki was last fed by GLY on July 30th. L was last in on July 20th.
From Ranger Sharyn Broni : "On Thursday when Manaaki was weighed, he was 8.1 kg and another male was 7.7 kg. The needier chicks come first with the supplementary feeding. However, today it was Manaaki's turn to be supplementary fed with assistance from Royal Albatross Centre staff. Dad, GLY, was last in on the 30th of July and mum, L, on the 20th of July. On Thursday when Manaaki was weighed, he was 8.1 kg and another male was 7.7 kg. The needier chicks come first with the supplementary feeding. Adult albatross (who are smaller than late post guard stage chicks) regularly go for 2 weeks without food while incubating the egg while the other parent is feeding out at sea. Today Manaaki is 203 days old and weighed 8.1kg yesterday. He was fed 600ml of rehydrating fluids and 1 kg of fish and octopus."
Thank you for watching!
