Showcasing the men of REME, whose job is to make sure that equipment is ready at all times.
The emphasis for REME recruits is on practical training of high quality, and there are a variety of opportunities available. REME members are also fully fledged soldiers, but they have opportunities for relaxation. Possibilities for qualifications. Various REME roles are illustrated: recovery mechanics, bridge building, mobile workshops, diving, crane driving, welding, explosives, missile testing etc. Opportunities for travel (eg Germany, Hong Kong) and adventure. Example of REME work: an army supply airlift to a village in Hong Kong, which the army connects to electricity.

This kind of advertisement for the armed forces is the perfect example of how our military should be influencing our younger generation to join them, not the wish-washy namby-pamby woke brigade advertising that is currently being used on tv and social media, perhaps this type of documentary/recruitment film should be being shown in our schools and colleges, it is no wonder that the current armed forces are undermanned, and as a veteran of 24 years service myself I hope that the new government will put a renewed emphasis on recruitment and paying a decent wage.

I did my apprenticeship with a pair of founding members of the REME, WW2 veterans of Normandy & northwest europe. They used to say REME stood for Rear Echelon Mostly Eating.... then i found out that the pair of them were combat recovery specialists, in the thick of the fighting, tough fellers that taught me well, thanks for everything Frank & Colin, RIP.

3:43 Exactly what all school kids need to know rather than being told to go to University (to get a 2:2 from what used to be a Polytechnic in a subject that's of little or no value in the work place).

1977-86 REME TA, I was Civilian Qualified City & Guild Motor Vehicle Engineer, I took my skills to the Army, and got the benefit of, doing my job in a field in battlefield conditions, So no pressure, right enough of the bull, I'd always wanted to be a soldier, My Dad was 17yrs RE, Life took me away from the Regs, So I found a way to serve with a BOAR reserve Batt. it's a close as a TA unit could get. to front line, We were in Germany working up, to replace front line unit due to go the Falkands, when End-Ex was called

What really blows me away, is that all those young fresh faced kids are now all in their 70's or 80's......can someone please slow down the march of time, it's flowing way too fast for my liking.

The REME bods were most of the time on exercise in their wagon playing cards but when needed they grafted such as pack lifts. Also the Gun fitters worked hard when needed. On BATUS in Canada we had a damaged Gun Barrel on our M109 Gun & in the BATUS workshop a Ssgt & a W02 worked all night to change our Barrel, we got some sleep then straight back out on the Pararie😅
