I have a classic 500 the same colour as this. A really fun bike and a real headturner. Performance isn't great but super to ride at 50mph

Dear Ian, even though robustness and resilience of the new UCE engine has been improved over past models, I would not fully rely on it. 70mph equals roughly to 112km/h and while this is imho ok for a short time, I'd strongly reccommend to fit a 19 tooth sprocket on a Classic EFI (like I did) or an 18 tooth sprocket on a Stadard or Electra model. This will give you a more comfortable ride and lower revs around 4000rpm at approx. 70mph. The Bullet has now >10000km on the gauge, in its 3rd year and I just wait for the salt on the street to go away. Beware of test rides: they will get you addicted to the Bullet by a 99% chance.

+Michael Grom - since tuning (Hitchcocks) my C5 I am seriously considering changing the gearbox sprocket or fitting a slightly larger tyre (120/80-18 rather than the stock 110/80-18), the Avon TrailRider may be a sensible choice since it is an 'enduro' all-seasons M+S tyre. It's the tyre outer diameter, you can gain 1/2 to 1 cog there. The 'new' EFI is the strongest motor RE have ever built, same bearings as HD use and the improved pumps hurl oil by the bucket through the engine. The Power Commander does smooth out the engine up at 75-80mph for motorway cruising ;)

+Michael Grom, something of an update since last posting here. I have discovered they if you will run the engine at higher revs, by changing up later and by using a lower gear, the engine becomes smoother at higher revs, and produces more power too. Build up gradually as the engine further loosens, eventually up to hitting the rev limiter. Although similar, this is not a hard break in but performed after fully and properly running in. The process may take 300miles/500km or more depending on how much work you put into the engine in each session. You may not hit the rev limiter in top gear with standard tuning; I have inadvertently hit the rev limiter in top on my EFI-500 Classic with K&N, Exhaust, PCV and AT-200 at the RevXtend limit of 6000rpm, with standard gearing. Before doing this the engine was unwilling to rev past 4800. That is considerably faster than this bike is supposed to go. It won't turn the bike into a crotch rocket. I have decided not to fit a larger gearbox sprocket but may switch to a slightly larger tyre when this one wears out, preferring better acceleration to ultimate top speed. The engine will become smoother and more willing to run at high revs enabling it to run at motorway speeds of 70-80mph for long periods. One of the features of a big single is they will run at near maximum revs for long periods; they were raced this way. Some riders never take this engine over 4000rpm, where it is only just getting into its power band; because it vibrates then - it just requires to further loosening up to smooth it out. I know of one chap who performed this final bedding in and got significant improvement, with some 25,000km already on the clock,

+Ian Cowell Hi Ian! Thanks for asking....chances haven't been that good on riding the Bullet this year...either weather, lack of time or some other reason. Number #1 issue was the heavy vibrations when revving the engine above 3500rpm. Got new custom handle bar weights, 360grams each, instead of 200grams stock weights...quite an improvement.. Now we have mid October and chances for a decent ride are even less...so basically waiting for the upcoming season...take care!
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Grom - I'm concerned that you are getting heavy vibration because I don't on my 2014/15 C5. I have fitted foam 'Grip Puppys' but that's only because I have arthritis. Stock bar weighs with a single bar end mirror outside the weight. Bar-mounted Smiths tacho doesn't go blurry at 4500-5000 rpm. I did realign the wheels, the notches on the adjusters are not symmetrical, that aligns the chain too. I've also spannered the engine mounts because they're self-loosening. I've also adjusted the bars so I don't lean on them so much. One issue which I've fixed was plug fouling causing missing at high revs. The stock HT cap was rubbish. I've resorted to using a NGK BPR5ES which is a car plug rather than the BPR6ES lawnmower plug. The other thing I've done is to use the Power Commander's Rev Xtend function to take the ignition limiter away to 6000rpm, that seems to have cured the high speed missing below 5000rpm. It won't rev that high but the ecu limiter seems to start cutting in before it should (the book says 5500 but the PCv reported 5400). The PCv (Hitchcocks' map) also monkeys with the ignition timing which smooths out high rev vibrations.
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 7 жыл бұрын
update - I removed the fat grips as they became loose, vibration has very much reduced now anyway. The tacho is only mounted now for tuning sessions as it spoils the line of the bike. I found a fault on the electrics that may be common to RE - the coil was mounted with its nose pressed into the frame causing tracking, and the HT lead had gone stiff and cracked from the heat of the motor, this caused missing sparks. Solution - reposition the coil and fit silicone HT lead but do not strap it along its length to the frame as this reduces current for the spark (it tries to induce current in the frame), one cable tie looping it to the frame so it is held clear of the rocker covers. Result - better ignition sparks at low revs as well as high, no missing at all. It now revs freely past 5000rpm.

Hello Michael, great video. I purchased one similar to yours three months ago but a 2010 model (no kickstart) with only 3,000Km on it - I'd say that was genuine as it looks brand new and no wear evident anywhere. I'm interested in your comments about changing to the 19-tooth sprocket and the Bullet pre-unit bushes for the swing arm. Where do I find them - Hitchcocks in UK? - and I presume pre-unit is pre-UCE? I'm in Australia and our speed limits are 100/110 on open roads/freeways and I'm interested in cruising to keep up with traffic as there is nothing more annoying than a car tailgating you all the time. I will also look at the Bridgestones too. They're a great bike to ride and the distinctive sound is great - I've added an upswept silencer and K&N air filter which seems to have made a difference - well it's certainly a lot noisier.
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Thiele - the K&N and replacement silencer should have enabled you to exceed 70mph/110kph cruising. My C5 is the later model but can and will cruise (out of necessity) on a nice smooth motorway at 75-80mph with the 18T cog but note I have also got the Power Commander V and Hitchcocks are the only place that can supply it mapped for the EFI. Dynojet themselves only have one out of date Bullet map. Also see what I have written above about high speed missing of sparks. It may not be apparent but once it is sorted the difference is significant. Avon Roadriders actually have a very good reputation, they're made in Wiltshire England. Avon give the pressures as 27/29psi, RE as 18/28psi. Try it and see but I reckon RE are just plain wrong esp the front. Problem with a lot of tyre makes is they don't allow for wet english roads, Pirellis give me brown trousers. Raising the pressure in the front dramatically improved the handling and grip.

Hindustani narrow country roads in the Taunus mountain are often limited to 60-80 km/h. I rarely go faster than 100 or 110 with the 19 tooth sprocket. Or 4000 - 4100 revs per minute. Rather keen on not putting too much stress on the engine.

Michael Grom +Michael Grom Ohh Great. Thanks for the Info. Actually i own Yamaha. I am planning to buy Royal Enfield Classic 500 (Battle Green) Sweet spot of my bike (Yamaha) is between 55 to 60 km/h. (200 CC) Enfield classic 500 must be having sweet spot between 60-70 KM/H I heard a theory that A Larger Front Or Countershaft Sprocket Will Increase Your Top Speed. A Smaller Front Or Countershaft Sprocket Will Increase Your Pickup From A Start While Decreasing Your Top Speed Is it right? You said, You are using 19 tooth sprocket. I want to ask, Is 16 tooth sprocket a stock configuration? Last question: What fuel efficiency do you get? Also please visit Goa, India between November & February. You will love to ride Enfield on Goa Roads

Hindustani Hi! 60 - 70 or 70 - 90 km/h is perfect for the Classic 500 EFI - even better with the 19 tooth sprocket. Let's shed some light on the sprocket thing: the Bullet 500 EFI and Electra 500 EFI come with 19" wheels and a 17 tooth sprocket. The Classic 500 comes with 18" wheels and a 18 tooth sprocket. Early years of Classic 500 came without - in contrast to Bullet and Electra - a kick start. The kick start was added later on to the Classic 500. As a result, while going from 17 to 18 sprocket in the Bullet and Electra is no problem whatsoever, going from 18 to 19 in the Classic (remember: the wheels are smaller in diameter) requires more attention, as space is scarce. But with the proper chain it's no problem. Your assumption is correct that increasing sprocket tooth count might give you a better top speed while the opposite will give you a better acceleration. While the latter is obvious and easy to achieve, the former is not so easy: the EFI simply lacks the power to turn the changed ratio into higher speed. But this is, as a Royal Enfield Bullet rider, not what you aim for. The couple of hundreds lower revs at the same speed is what I'm after. And yes, climbing uphills will now make me downshift earlier. But cruising at 80 - 110 is much, much better. Next thing to improve would be - after some hundred miles - to change the swing arm bush from the EFI standard plastic bushes to the Bullet pre-unit bushes. Much better stability. Next would be to change the Avon Road Runner to something better, like Bridgestone BT 45. And that's it. Any other change would be according to your own taste, like handle bar, bags etc. However, among the first things to do is definitely to change from 18 to 19 tooth sprocket. Fuel efficiency of course greatly depends on wether you ride at the upper limits or not. Average, with relaxed but not snail-slow riding, I get a 3,5l fuel efficiency for 100km ride, using 95 octane fuel. In India, the Royal Enfield are usually sold with a twin spark ignition to cope with the variety of fuel qualities. If fuel consumption would be of significance, I'd rather go for a Taurus Diesel - not longer in production, virtually no power or a Sommer Diesel (formerly based on Royal Enfield Frames) with a Hatz single Diesel Engine and 11HP output. That will go for roughly 1,5l per 100km. I ride roughly 5000km per year and fuel consumption is not really an issue...the joy a Royal Enfield creates is much, much worth it! You're right - if I would come to India I would definitely hire a Bullet :-)
