Royal Enfield Classic 500: The One Bike That Never Gave A Sh*t

The Royal Enfield Classic 500 - it doesn't blend into a crowd, it doesn't have to. The "man" among "boys", this bike did whatever it wanted to, its own way.
And nobody complained.
While the entire country is going ga ga over the Royal Enfield Meteor 350's launch today, I get to ride this old school brute that went out on its shield, refusing to kneel (discontinued due to poor sales when India switched to BS-6 norms).
This is not really a review, I am not really a reviewer. Just an average Joe riding and appreciating a motorcycle for what it is - unconventional and unapologetic.
There are smoother bikes in the market, there are more fuel efficient, faster bikes available - and they will all make more sense than the Royal Enfield Classic 500 when you look at logic to decide on a bike. But none of them will appeal to your heart like this Classic 500, that is something I am sure of.

It's the thump it makes you fall in love and that mountain moving torque, this bike has a soul who cares about refinement go buy a Japanese bike then. It's not for everyone I know but out of all the bikes I have ridden the character and soul of the classic 500 and Yamaha rx100 is just unmatched.

I remember , it was night and it was raining heavily, I drove through an area where the water level was above my silencer, but this bike didn't give a damn, it kept pulling all through one and half km for that water level, at that moment I looked at it's headlight, I felt like sitting on a locomotive that was pulling the more you throttle. It's an unending joy to ride on it. Yeah it has its own cons, I spend extra even now to maintain it, but still, once it is on road, it is just majestic. I own stealth black 500cc.

Got my proper first bike as a CL350 and missed getting the CL500 instead, but still love the bike the same since day one. Love the toque, the long stroke engine, and the character with the bike. No fancy stuff, not even a fuel gauge but it still teaches me to take care of bikes and experience bigger bikes with the same confidence today. The 500 is a true feeling man! ❤️

Don't let your presumptions on a 350 make you judge a 500. I miss my DS 500. The torque had always kept me grinning. It vibes like hell but charges to 100 kmph like a bull and after 115 it gasps for air.

I had a RE Classic 350 2011 December model, changed the exhaust to the RE upswept one. While on rides, I used to purposely ride it to 90-95 and tolerate the damn vibrations and rev down just to feel the smoothness and cruising at 75 :D And you just summed it up in this vlog Nice video man!

Nice honest video, and you’ve captured the essence of the bike perfectly. I had a KTM 990 Adventure (1 litre V-twin) for 11 years from new. It was remapped and had Akrapovic cans fitted, so 4-5 times the power of the Classic 500. But no matter! I started riding bikes in 2006 when I lived in India, with a Bullet. My next bike was a BMWR1200GS after a move to Qatar, then shipping it home to the U.K. Next came the KTM and it saw proper use as a dual sport tourer, the best of its class. I always had a wish to get back to Enfield sometime and finally traded my KTM for a 2021 Classic 500 over a month ago. Since then I’ve put 1200 miles on it. It puts a big smile on my face every time I ride it. When a fast bike rips past me I just smile and chug on, never missing the speed. Every day I walk past my Land Rover Discovery and choose the Enfield to commute country roads to work, in fact I look forward to my commute on the Enfield. As for it not being a tourer, you’re only partly correct. It depends on where you set your expectations. I’ve covered over 1000kms in a day across Europe on the KTM but I’ve also done Kolkata - Darjeeling in a single day, and Kolkata - Varanasi in one day by Bullet!

Good to see you on RE 500. You keep saying it vibrating all the time. I have no idea about 500 cc, but I own 350 cc bs6 truely saying each time when I ride my bike It feels like amazing. No vibration felt till 80-85 kmph. In just 35 days of ownership I have covered almost 2k km riding in weekends mostly. You cannot imagine I just wait when the weekend comes and willgo for long ride. I have dual channel glossy black and I really love it. If you have chance please ride bs6 350 cc dual channel ABS once and put your true riding review. We all RE lovers are waiting for that. In the first 30 seconds you really hit the nail on the head. “ it really doesn’t compete with anything “. You really can’t compare the Classic 500 to anything else. But you can’t really say there’s nothing fancy on it. The Classic 500 is a work of art, it’s the feeling it gives you when you look at it, when you twist the throttle it just says,” let’s go explore, I’ll get you there”. My dad had a 1960 g2 350.. It had the old paint scheme with the classic blue and gold stripes which was faded a bit but didn't care about repainting coz it was still an old-school banger. It came with the old headlight and horn switches that's very funny to operate and an amp lever for kick start.. my dad bought it from a collector but sadly we only had it for 3 years coz it was a bit of a menace when it comes to maintanence.. leaks oil..electrics issue and the kick start is just too annoying that it kicks your leg if you don't do it properly, its not practical either, stalls sometimes,false neutrals and you have to kick the neutral gear since the right side gear has always been tough and hard but when it comes to sound and the cruising you just feel the love for the machine and forget about the 0 to 100 figures and top speed. What I am saying is that.. Many motorcycles may come and go..and they will always be better than a Royal Enfield.. but the character of the Royal Enfield is just something that everyone loves. Royal Enfield is Royal Enfield..I myself was never a Royal Enfield fanboy but it will make you one someday❤️✨

I really connect very emotionally to the 500. My father rides a Classic 500 2010 bs2 model. In the latest addition a bs6 interceptor is also added to the garage. Now maintenance is costing me on the tougher side of the 500 but that authentic sound of the old school 500 thumper is something that I can't resist of. I consider myself lucky to a have special exhaust on the bike, which is a full system upswept exhaust with free flow bent... It was an official accessory at that time. The exhaust system is a very rare to see with this combination and produces a very authentic thump. The unswept which ur bike has a very mild thump as it is not running with a free flow bent. I really wish to meet u someday let u ride the bike.❤️❤️

I was like you. I hated RE because of 350, but the day when i rode my friend's RE Classic 500, i fell love with it. Later then I've driven one of my friend's bullet 500 bs6, it was so comfortable. 0-80 kms is a SMOOTH peice of cake, it's not about speed, it's the comfort. The low end torque is really good, it has a different feel and can't be compared. As i clocked so many kms in the ktm 200, riding the ktm and bullet500 was like driving Polo tsi and Old innova. One is aggressive and another one is about comfort. . I wish to buy one used Re500 for my father after getting the salary.

Very nice review. I have had my classic 500 for a few years now. It has lots of character and it is lazy - like I am (I am 73). I am in no rush to get anywhere and this is the perfect companion.

@@abhinavbhatt yes I have a standard 350 ,& guys come with the efi issues of 500 at service center and that's the final solution they got 😂😂 ,even if you go to a so called ustad he will suggest you to change it to carb.🤣🤣

There is nothing much good about bullets. High maintenance, poor mileage , too much vibration, oil leaks etc. Fir bhi maza aata hai bullet chalane mein. I am riding my Thunderbird since last 17 years

High maintenance? Are you out of your mind?😂 I have a thunderbird 350x and there is very little maintenance.

@@kunjikorans get the engine rebuilt and replace all gaskets and seals and consumable parts like piston rings and clutch plates and enjoy another 10 years of very little maintenance :)

Im so much connected to bike it's my passion playing guitar and riding bike. I've used many bikes started from 2013 but the best feeling was RE it feels different and years later i sold my thunderbird 350 n bought 350 classic but someone stole it n never found again n after months later one day i tried using my friend bike 500cc Enfield after that everything changes in life again n now I'm going to buy definitely by this month. Your videos are great, not over produced, a little raw but that gives me the feeling of the ride, not like you are trying to sell something. Huge cultural difference for me, I couldn’t survive in the traffic you have. If you ever make it to Canada, try some riding in Newfoundland. I have ridden in roads where I haven’t seen another vehicle on the same road for over an hour. Your ending comments are perfect. Keep up the good work!

Last year I was crazy for this classic 500 chrome model...but couldn't get one in any of the showroom...they said it's production was stopped... Thanks to Bs6 update which gave me my Classic Chrome 350 and I love it...
