I had the same issue with my classic 350. I ended up buying and installing a heel/ toe shifter. Warro’s you tube channel has a nice “how to” to install a heel/ toe shifter. Took a little getting used to at first but now can’t imagine not having it! Cheers from the Pacific Northwest!

Thanks for your comment. 👍 I bet the Pacific North West is an amazing place to ride a motorbike. There's massive forests and mountains. It's like a Bob Ross painting in every direction you look. 😂👍 I tried a Meteor and didn't take to the heel toe shifter at all. But I have thought about getting one to see what it'd be like. A lot of Harley owners I know swear by them.

Ride with Warro is a brilliant channel. He gets through some amount of bikes eh? And he really knows his stuff with the old 500cc Classics. He's had loads of them over the years.

Thank you. I'm just a bit miffed about knocking the camera over and having to cut some footage out. It was just me moving the lever up and putting the rear frame bolt back in, so it wasn't really that important.

Good point. 👍😁 And thank you for your comment. I tried the Meteor, but I couldn't get on with the double shifter. I'm sure if I spent a bit longer on the bike I might've got the hang of it. The main decider for me was the seating position, I found sitting more upright suited me better.

Easy enough to move the gear lever - much more of a faff to adjust the tappets. Which is probably why many dealers don't do it at the 300 mile service, despite RE stating it is mandatory. I checked mine after the "service" - inlet was at zero clearance, instead of 0.08mm, exhaust less than the 0.18mm spec. Be warned ! 😲

It definitely sounds like they didn't check them. I've heard quite a few folk saying that the valves are on the tight side from the factory to make the engine sound less rattly. I have a very cynical view of most dealers servicing standards as well. When I bought my last bike I checked the service records only to find out the last service had been done by a dealer with poor reputation for quality work, and sure enough, when I went to change the oil filter it wouldn't budge. It ended up shredded to bits and I eventually had to cut the sealing ring carefully with a Dremel just to get it loose!!

Interesting video, although sound-quality not so good. I was surprised to see that the footrest/lower frame had to be removed to adjust gear lever position!

Thanks for the feedback on the audio. 👍 I'm using an Akaso brave 6 plus with the Akaso microphone, it's the only one you can use with this camera. In fact, if I remember correctly, it was the first time I'd used it and I may have clipped it too far down my coveralls.

Only loosen the back bolt.(and the gearshifterbolt ofcourse). A little bit of pressure on the footrest and gear shifter van be removed.

Thanks for the info. I'd thought about that, but decided just to remove it to make it easier to push the foot peg down. It went back in easy enough, sometimes bolts can be a real pig to get lined up properly. 🤣

I quite fancy a Scram at some point in the future, I really liked it when I test rode one. I kept hitting neutral when changing up to second with these new boots on, so it was definitely needing done.

@@the.just.able.biker67 scram is a good bike made some changes to it now just in the making of a spot light bracket that I’m welding up to fit under the headlight working progress then I have to work out where I’m going to fit and make the brackets for the bolt petrol cans on the Himalayan I know you can buy the brackets for the petrol cans from Hitchcocks they bolt under the Himalayan lettering on the front crash bars but no one has made anything like that for the scram where’s there’s away there’s a will I’ll sort something out for it 👍🙏🙏

@@SOLOMOTOUK I reckon you'd be able to make something to bolt the jerry cans onto easily enough and bolt it to where those little tank guards go. I'm sure that's where the frame on the Himalayan bolts to anyway.

@@the.just.able.biker67 your right that is where they do bolt onto but the front folk set up is completely different to the Himalayan the headlight on that stays pointed forward has for the scram it turns with the folks I’ve be looking at spot light brackets then weld a bit more tubing onto them to bring them out a bit more so if I got the Hitchcock’s brackets I’ll be able to sort something out from there 👍

I have a Classic 350 and the same boots and experienced the same problem, I tried a toe and heel shifter but that didn't work for me so I adjusted the gear lever as you have done, still not right so may sell the boots as they are new.

Thank you for taking the time to comment 👍 Have you tried adjusting it another notch up? It's a shame it didn't work for you, especially with the same bike and the same boots. I'm back to changing gear without having to give it any thought. My previous boots were German Para boots and they were fine for changing gear on the Classic. You could maybe try a pair of them, they're only about 40 - 50 quid from army surplus stores.

Many thanks for your comment. 👍 I know, I'm sorry about that, but I knocked the camera over and didn't notice while I was adjusting the shifter. If I knew the video was going to get so many views I'd have re-done it. In fact, when the rain stops I may well do the whole thing again, just so folk can see the process of pushing the foot peg down and moving the lever. I've ordered a set of crash bars and I'm planning on filming that, so I might as well do the foot peg again while I'm at it.
