Dear Karthik, you keep insisting on the importance of rear view wipers and washers in cars, However what's your thought on car makers giving that option only on the top end models. Case in point, Exter and 1 10 grand 2024 . And I am assuming it's the same for all hyundai models. Also it's not possible to add it as an accessory. Finally, someone said it! I commented on a Shotgun 650 video pointing out that removing the rear seat isn’t super easy and suggested Royal Enfield should make it simpler in future models. Since it involves the rear suspension bolts, it’s quite a task. However, I got heavily bashed in the comments, with people saying it’s easy and that anyone who can’t do it shouldn’t buy a bike. Despite that, I went ahead and purchased the Shotgun 650. Luckily, the service center is just 3 km away, so I often ask them to handle adding/removing the rear seat for me.

It’s not easy at first time. But when you have the right tools and have done it atleast once, it’s a 20 mins jobs. Off course not having torque wrench at home is a minus but there are always hacks to torque a nut without a torque wrench. I strongly second what shumi said about shotgun. It’s not for everyone. But I still bought it and absolutely love it.

Decided to gift myself a motorcycle on my birthday early next year. Was looking for a retro RE. And, surprise! The Goan Classic 350 arrives. It ticked all the right boxes and I went ahead and booked one. (Shack Black.) Was waiting for this video. I sense that Shumi kind of liked this bike. Not that I was looking for any validation for my choice, but was happy to hear “bike is nice”. I had commented this earlier as well and I will say it again, Royal Enfield needs to make a fundamental change to their motorcycles and step out of their comfort zone of nostalgia. Back in 2018, while I was living in the UK, I had the chance to use a Vitpilen 701 as my primary motorcycle. It featured a KTM-derived 690cc single-cylinder engine producing around 70-75 bhp, paired with a lightweight frame of about 160 kg. This combination gave it an impressive power-to-weight ratio, especially for a single-cylinder bike. It was remarkably agile, fun to ride, and never felt monotonous. This bike showcased how a heritage brand can create modern motorcycles that stay true to their identity while embracing innovation. Similarly, Royal Enfield has the potential to evolve beyond their current formula. By focusing on developing modern, performance-oriented motorcycles that retain their unique charm, they can create machines that are as exciting to ride as they are to look at. It’s time to shift the focus from purely aesthetic design to engineering bikes that redefine the brand's legacy for a new generation.

Power doesn’t sell these days, the segment that is seeing more sales growth internationally is the 650 and below segment. 45 hp is targeted for the license requirements in many countries, where people between the ages of 19 to 24 are licensed only to drive bikes below 46 cc, so that is a demographic you miss out on if you go for 70 hp or more
@ninadkhanzode17972 ай бұрын
@rednihb Power was merely a vehicle to convey my example. My point was more about innovation, or rather the lack of it, in the industry. While you're right that the 650cc and below segment is seeing growth and there are licensing constraints in many countries, the discussion wasn’t centered on power figures alone. It's about how manufacturers are (or aren’t) innovating to cater to these evolving demographics and market demands. Unless we, as buyers, start demanding better products, this trend will only continue to worsen.

RE hasn’t managed to fix the death wobble on the INT650 and the GT650. I was cleaning up the bills of my “updated INT650” the other day. During the 16 months that I owned it, the bike has been to the service centre 11 times, of which only three were for the free services. The other 8 bills have covered things like failing speedometer (twice), death wobble (three times), and engine oil leaking from the cylinder heads (five times). Till the end of my ownership of this (cursed) motorcycle, RE could not manage to fix a single one of these issues. And to think that this was a brand new bike. If this is how they treat their once flagship products, I wouldn’t hold my breath about RE fixing Hunter’s suspension.

Excellent points in the discussion. Royal Enfield is uniquely positioned where middle-aged and surprisingly young riders are drawn towards retro bikes. In order to fully capitalise on that, they should do these four things immediately. 1. Improve weight to power ratio. 2. Bring in more significant engines, 800+ CC 3. Improve quality (at par with EU standards) and reduce niggles. 4. Improve service quality. Royal Enfield has come so far. Kudos to that! But they can't be complacent.

RE singles are the best, but the 350 is just a bit too small, a bit too slow for people in all parts of the world. It's not about going fast, it's about being safe, yet people act like adding another 8hp means you can't enjoy slow rides in the country lanes anymore... And before anyone mentions just getting the twins, I said single at the start I obviously mean singles, don't @ me suggesting a 650 varient.
@JagannathMoorthy2 ай бұрын
Well if you like the retro styling and want better performance, reliability and refinement, there's always the Honda CB350 variants. As long as you aren't hung up on something abstract like soul/feel etc, you'll have a far better experience than the RE 350s will give you.

Good discussion ❤ loved it. Again when Karthikeya was saying about the J-Series engine he likes it, yes true, a LE Torque based one I also love it as I own a Classic Reborn and still digesting it’s temperature range behaviour. But there is something hidden in that engine… Once you ride it 15Km the engine should get heated that time you hear the combustion clatter (ThaK ThAk… in every power stroke), I have seen this in all the Classic Reborn and other J-Series based engines and after some thorough checking the tappets & everything are in correct position but the engine combustion clatter only comes when the engine is running hot 🥵 in cold it behaves normally. It’s like Anvi (Vidya Balan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa) turning out to be Monjolika 😂 Almost all the J-Series behave like that in hot. Till now the only solution is to make the engine run cooler, these methods I would not mention here but yeah the J-Series engines run dry lean burn 🔥 The competitors 398cc & other manufacturers 350cc engine retained same characteristics in all the temperature range. I like RE Bullet/Classic and a fanboy sort of to its Legacy and Swag factor, it has something that makes it so special.

Look at Jawa as well. They have essentially used one engine on 7-8 bikes, all with different characteristics and feel! Yeah they have been struggling but still this is something appreciable and to be learned from

When I went to buy the bullet in 2009 I had two options. I could buy a CI bullet standard off the floor or I could order a thunderbird which would, after order be built for me and dispatched over a four week period. At that time RE was almost dead. Unsold standards littered the dealership. From then to here fifteen years later discussing whether RE has too many models, about 40,000 classics being sold a month, to 650 twins and bobbers to a world class adventure tourer. RE has had a dream run. Just to put it in context if I had bought Eicher Motors stock for the same amount instead of the motorcycle in 2009 I would have one chore rupees today. Hats off Royal Enfield.

Hey Karthik and Shumi, I am thinking about buying an Xpulse 200. Should I wait for the new one? I heard that it will be launched sometime in the next year. I'm quite happy with what the current Xpulse is offering and I don't think I will have the feeling of fomo from not having the newest version of the bike. The only thing I'm worried about is making an unwise decision, like the new version being technically so much better that there was no way I could rationalize the purchase of the old one. Would you think it will be wise to wait for the newest one? Should I pick a used one or buy one out of the showroom? What are your thoughts?
@18lakhvinder182 ай бұрын
Why not take a used one for 6 months? That way you’ll have the experience of current generation while letting all the niggles of the newer generation fatten out.
@motorinc2 ай бұрын
Whether you can/should wait or not is always a personal decision, Anand. Ditto new or used. But the X200 has been around for ages - so information on what works, and what may not etc is abundant. If you're convinced, there's no reason to wait.

First of all this is the first video of yours am seeing and directly loved the way you guys discussed about the bike instead of reviewing…. It feels like two friends discussing about what they saw and felt…. Direct subscriber🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Secondly RE recently seems too overwhelming with all the permutation and combination they are coming out with… I could see a sheer competition pressure because of which RE is doing so. Its not going to stop with flying flea, they still have their new sherpa engine lineup waiting to be fitted on scrambler, bobber, cruiser etc… I could also see a big pressure building up on all the dealerships… see how many bikes does a dealership have for test drive and display?? Do they really have that much space to stand 1 bikes from all these variants?? There are approximately around 15 bikes which are currently in production and still the count gets increasing….

Hi @akashnaganathan1528! Glad you enjoyed the watch, welcome to MotorInc! RE say that they're done with new launches (for now!) and we're hoping that they'll focus more on the refining now.

This has so much potential. Kitkat in Japan is sold with famous regional versions (Tochigin strawberry, Hokkaido roasted corn). I can’t help but think relating regional versions of the bike will be inspired by food (idli white, kashmiri red (mirchi), kothimbir vadi green, jalebi orange). Apologies, I let my mind wander a bit 😅

I was at Motoverse '24. Only 1 Interceptor was on display and the caption read " Santa Monica 65- End of the Trail". Which got me thinking; that there might be a newer version of the interceptor and Cont GT in the works

recently I faced a discussion changing situation with RE. I have been using STD 350 for nearly 20 years. I tried the current 2024 version and finalized the top variety. However they have no option to change the spoke wheels to alloy wheels. I know how difficult it is to handle a situation where you get a puncture on spoke wheels. The option the salesperson gave me was - to order a pair of alloy wheels for classic 350 and get it fitted to the new bullet from the workshop paying the labour charges. And then take the spoke rims home. Now I am looking at Honda 350.

Hey guys, I used to often listen to motorinc first while driving/doing chores and stuff but it seems like since August, at least on Spotify you’ve stopped uploading newer episodes. Any specific reason? Is there a possibility to make a return to audio only versions of this content in the future?

Kartik's quick summary voice is better than his regular review voice. Finally figured out why he sounds... (ok might sound rude) pretentious in his VOs and regular reviews. 10/10 :D Also... Vindaloo Classic 350... if they stick with the Goan theme for the spicy 350.

I really like it😊. If it comes to the UK, I might add one to the garage. I wonder if the shocks off the Classic 350 would work? I'd give up a little finesse in the handling department for a plusher ride overall. I like the engine finish too - very Shotgun. The switch cubes look like they're painted cast aluminium vs plastic. Overall, it seems RE are gradually improving build quality across their entire range. There is room for improvement with the J series. Kent Cams in the UK provide a "performance" cam which is selling well. And what about a J500? Or would that be too difficult for this platform with regard to the ever-tightening Euro emissions rules? Speaking of Tata, have you guys seen the new Jaguar commercial?
@shashank07102 ай бұрын
Honestly i feel if RE is iterating like this, they should go for building versions like what Harley Davidsons have had for so long - street-rod types... Its gonna be a dream come true for sooooo many Indians (yes they are very impractical for Indian roads... But I'm sure they'll sell)

Fantastic insight! On a lighter note, this is a big win for Royal Enfield, especially with Shumi dialing down the satire-clearly a sign that this experiment hit the mark. The design feels like a perfect nod to the Hippie culture, which I believe was the true inspiration behind it.

I think a Rajasthani Classic will be very nice 👍 royal enfield's natural theme for old school elegance & style will work perfectly well with Rajasthani theme. Just needs playing with colours like gold, brown, little white and orchard etc..
