Dont listen to anyone saying They are getting mileage of less than 26kmpl. I had done a couple of mileage test on my bike (filled 5L petrol and rode it till reserve tripf) and calculated many times. The worst average mileage i got was around 27kmpl (hard revving/offroading mainly in 1st and 2nd year) The best i got was 38kmpl (normal road traffic with gears shifting at 4000rpm and riding in 5th gear, 60-70kmph) Those who say they are getting 15-23kmpl are just saying nonsense. (Maybe they don't know how to maintain their bikes)

Last fill up I calculated at 33 kmpl. This was mostly riding in the countryside at 80 to 90 kph. Short shifting and using the low end torque is the way to get good fuel consumption.

Maintenance - 500km first free service costed me 1100rs (oil change) Second service was at 5000km, oil change was not needed but i told them to change the oil so same rate around 1100rs. Tyres worn out at 12-14k kms Rear tyre is 120/90/17 ceat grip xl ( costs 2200rs at ridermania, and at original ceat outlets. But if your are planning to buy form local dealers the price would be around 4000rs, don't know why they do it ) Stock tyres sucks on road. Front tyre is 21inch 90/90 which is really hard to find (just imagine searching for about 21" inner tyretube.😑 Even RE service centre dont have spares)

I have a may 2018 model bs4 Himalayan. The bike is good except for some problems. I have the same petrol lid problem. ( Got it replaced by Service centre for free) Engine heating is there. Tappet sound is there. Clutch and gear shift is hard. Have enough power and torque for easy overtakes. Tyres lack grip on roads. Will lock up every time when i hard brake on it. Mileage wise it depends on the person who rides it.. i got a lowest mileage of 26kmpl ( hard revving and offroads) Highest mileage was around 37kmpl (shifting gears at 4000rpm.) Any way one can expect a decent Mileage of 30kmpl if you take good care of your bike.

Hi. I own a bs3 Himalayan. since 2 years I am using this bike. I faced some of the issues like key set failure, mileage short. But I given my bike in RE service center. They changed everything and replaced the bs4 parts. Now it is perfect. Now I am not facing any kind issues. This is perfect off roading bike. Only one thing I am facing is the mileage short. I am getting 18-20 in city( Bangalore) 22-25 at highway. Mine is bs3. Don't know about BS4. May be mileage is better because it have fuel injection.. but easily bs3 touch 135KMPH. where the BS4 will teach 120 KMPH. NOTE: RE service centers are not up to the mark. But some of them are very good. Before giving the bike to service center just check how is the service over there. One more thing: it have 2 years warranty. If anything happens, they won't charge any single RS.. I changed any my parts to BS4.. They didn't even charged anything... For that a big thumb's Up...

Most Indian riders have no or limited experience with a rear disk brake. That's when they start complaining about the locking issue on the Himalayan(since they apply the rear brake alone in an emergency and get locking problems). In my opinion the ABS version will address those issues.
@SauvikRoy5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're right about the ABS, but it's simple physics: front and rear tyres are not the same size, but have identical disc setups. So, for the smaller rear tyre you'd need to apply more weight than the front tyre so that the revolutions match, else more force on front disc pads and they wear out faster or for uncontrolled brisk slam than squeeze, skid...

How does one handle puncture in the middle of nowhere? As this is a tube tyre there will always be puncture risk. Is it safe to use the tyre sealant gels or does one have to know how to open the wheel and repair?

I suggest you make a list of bikes and test ride them. I personally wanted to worry less about the conditions of indian roads and have fun while riding. You would need an adventure bike to go anywhere - not worrying about height of speed breaker or how bad the road is. Thats why Himalayan. If your purpose is different, then look for a different bike. Service costs are pretty decent. Even after exhausting all my free services within 6 months, paid service costs anywhere between 2000-3000. Depends on whether oil change / for oil / brake fluids need to replaced.
