I said many times on this channel, that weight reduction was the only thing that gave my Interceptor a noticeable boost in performance. In this video, I will show you what've I removed and how much does she weight now?

After removing the centerstand if you want to use it temporarily to oil chain etc: simply put the stand in position under the bike and put a bolt or a 3/8-inch drive extension through the pivot points...remember to disconnect it before riding. Edit: I just watched the end of the video! My 2020 Interceptor is 195 kg, that is 429 pounds.

Great video buddy, i think an all out alloy wheel setup would reduce the weight even more and can even improve the unsprung mass, but it does hinder the aesthetics a bit as compared to the stock spoke wheels. Im currently running a meteor(back) and hunter(front) alloy wheel setup and it has made the bike very light.

The weight of this thing was the primary reason for not buying on in the end. I felt that much of this weight was at the top. So now I plan on doing a similar project on my new Super Meteor, which is actually heavier than your Interceptor. The Exhaust is front and centre here because it's just huge and very clumsy.

I am very interested in the differences and similarities between INT and SM. Which parts can be swapped between one and other. I was looking at SM's upside down fork and thinking if it fits the INT. And also the wheels, I think SM is on the 16 or 17 wheels.. could they go on the INT? But that's just a stupid idea of mine.

@B0M0A0K 8 ай бұрын
@@thesundayrides Don't do that Max ,"But that's just a stupid idea of mine". When you are creative enough to work on and modify your own bike then no idea is stupid, you are just playing with ideas. Case in point, I am currently designing and 3D printing a support for the dials that will hold a double USB socket. Because the USB provide on the SM650 is in a stupid place that you can't get to and will turn off (user manual here) if it detects too much drain. Useless!
@thesundayrides

@@B0M0A0K Thanks for the words of motivation, mate! It is interesting to read that you are experimenting with 3D-printed parts! I am also playing with it. I've done a few parts already, some of them failed, but some of them worked fine - tail tidy (failed), indicator mount (worked!), "behind the headlight" cover (worked!), mirror eliminators, and I am working on a a few more designs. What did you try? What materials worked best for you and which didn't? I think I will need to do an episode on this topic

@@thesundayrides For an outside environment I stick exclusively to PETG, because it handles the vibration, shocks and weather much better than PLA. I don't use ABS because it gives off nasty gases. I have made parts for all my bikes where needed. I tend to sand and then spray them (to the colour I want) so as to add an extra level of protection and to colour match the motorcycle I am riding.

@thesundayrides
@thesundayrides 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, Brian! If I only had one, I could perhaps do it. I am pretty sure you can reduce weight of the Meteor too. With the biggest savings coming from the exhaust and header pipes, you can start there. I’ve just checked and it looks like there are some aftermarket systems available. Best of luck with the upgrade!

It would be a direct plug and play for the Interceptor as there are a few kits available out there. But I've also had luck installing smaller 9ah AGM battery instead of the stock 12/14Ah battery - saves 2-3 Kgs without needing to seriously modify anything except maybe the battery carrier.

Thank you very much! Yes, I feel the difference - bike is more playful. But you get used to it pretty quickly and then don’t feel it :) I don’t regret doing it and I’d do it again. Your bike is a real looker congratulations.. BUT.. It's only my personal opinion but I would never contemplate a bike without a main stand, you can't take your paddock stand everywhere with you.. secondly junking the mudguards for even small ones that don't do much to 'gaurd' anything is without logic.. thirdly, the cheapest way to lose wight is go on a diet :) or buy a more powerful bike in the first place.. did I mention the excellent, if weighty, stock silencers? They get better sounding as they get older without being anti-social.. the list goes on.. but a nice looking bike I admit. Thank for the video.
@thesundayrides
@thesundayrides 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! You have a good point, and I don't want to argue with it! That's why I got an Interceptor - you can take it in so many directions in terms of style. Please allow me to share some thoughts about why I did what I did: Main stand - certainly useful, but I noticed that in the last 6 months, I used it only once or twice, so in my case - it was just a dead weight. Also, someone suggested, "if you want to use it temporarily to oil chain etc: simply put the stand in position under the bike and put a bolt or a 3/8-inch drive extension through the pivot points". Mudguards - logic was to maximize the looks by sacrificing the function. I am a fair-weather rider, so not an issue for me. Otherwise, I'd agree and won't recommend doing it either. Stock silencers - purely a matter of personal taste, I agree, there is nothing wrong with them (except for the weight, but it is not an issue for many people). The sound of the aftermarket one is not much louder, but a bit more pleasant to my ear. Very subjective and personal. But definitely not overly loud. Many thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment and a compliment! P.S. I noticed in the description of your video, that you live in the Czech Republic. That's a great place. I used to live and study there. Must be also very bike-friendly with a lot of destinations.
