the same as all the royal enfield brand the relays sit in far to much grease, and in time this could be a cause for concern, so better to clean them now rather than break down on the roadside

Hi Colin, that's a good idea, I think we all come up with ways that suit us, and if it helps the bike, brilliant, it's strange how materials change, I remember years ago on my BSAs and Triumphs all the electrics were open to the elements, but they just kept on, oh for the modern world 😢 take care mate ........Colin 😊

The problem wasn't so much the grease (although there is too much of it arguably) it was the quality of the original relays fitted.

Hi Albert, yes I agree, when I did the same job on my Himalayan I changed all the relays to Bosch, on the meteor I have a few things I want to change on her, but checking the relays was on the list, i must admit I never had a problem with my Himalayan even with the original relays but I thought better to air on the side of caution, so in time I will replace the ones on the meteor, thanks for watching, .......... Colin 😊

I'm still not convinced of the relay/grease problem being either - I know people who have not only thoroughly degreased them but also changed all the relays for aftermarket ones and still suffered from the cut out issue.

@@icedidi it's a strange thing, I never had a problem before or after, I did it as a precaution, I think that maybe the fuel pump could be suspect...... Colin ☺️

We have a Tail pack on our scooter strapped to the pillion seat, fixed so all fixings are under the seat when closed ,it lives there permanently, and will be a bugger to steal! Now on the 350 Classic, in front of the air filter intake is a plastic pocket, for the owners manual, we can squeeze Insurance etc in there, as like you we have to carry doc's with us, just take a look behind left side panel in front of the filter housing, you might have a pleasant surprise! Cheers, DINO et Famille.

Hi Dino, yes I looked there after doing the video, I can just squeeze in my documents, I do like to carry a puncture repair kit and a small pump, and let's not forget the cameras, flask and sarnies 😅😅, I need one of those smallish backs that fit on the rear seat, I looked at the rack but it doesn't really suit the bike, take care ......... Colin 😊

That white grease is Dielectric grease perfect for electrical connectors ..it protects the terminals and prevents arcing , I use it on both of my Triumphs.. you've just washed it all off !!

Hi Kevin, there was a small amount left where the relay sits, after over 60 years of riding and maintaining motorcycles there isn't the need for so much to be put on, in fact the bike or any other bike would run perfectly well without it, but, it's very important we all look after our bikes to what we think is right, thanks for watching and thanks for the info ........Colin 😊

Must have a look at my Meteor this winter. I will clean mine with dry acid brushes so as to leave a thin layer on them. As for storage, it is what is. Had a couple of late 50s Enfields and the toolboxes were boxes. All this space has been replaced with electronics. (relays and stuff). As I will never carry a pillion, the seat and footrests and grabrails have been removed and been replaced by an aluminium plate with a 35L alloy top box. It sits right up behind me and even supports my old back. I have no interest in aesthetics.

Hi, yes it's certainly worth a look, royal Enfield seems to love the grease, I always apply a thin spray of water repellent over mine, it's a shame that these days on modern bikes storage doesn't exist, as you say a bike must be for your needs, so looks have to take second place, thanks for watching, take care........ colin 😊

i will ask did grease stop the bike from working,? now you have removed the grease, water will get in to the relays and the bike will stop, i have a 350 meteor and this was the problem after removing the grease,

Morning Colin, in my case on both of my bikes, Himalayan and the meteor I had no problem with starting whatsoever, but both bikes had excessive grease, the Himalayan I removed the grease and replaced the relays with Bosch, my meteor I removed the grease but used the orignal relays, now I've been riding bikes for over 55 years and never had relays covered in grease or any other protections and I've never had a problem, but, if you look way back in my video's for years now I completely spray all my bikes including all electrical items with GT85 , my 34 year old honda transalp has never given me a problem and all the relays have no grease, I truly believe that when all the grease they use when it gets dry and hard and attracts all the dirt will do more harm than good, I hope I've been of some help, take care ......Colin 😊
