UPDATE: Since the bike didn't start this one time , it now infact seems to be fine! A friend of mine said to clean the relays which I will do at some point but I will change the battery anyway, the bike was only left on a minute after filming this so no time at all tbh. I hope you like the suspension comparison...it took me 2.5 hours to edit that !!!!!!!! ...Thanks for watching this ...drop me a "like " would be cool and have a good week...see you next Sunday at 5PM : )

DON'T leave the ignition on .... The battery is fine but Motorbike Batteries are a smaller capacity and drain quickly if the ignition is left on while the Engine isn't running , and PLEASE PLEASE don't ride with both hands off the bars as you only have to hit a patch of oil or grease on the road and you wouldn't have time to recover . Great video otherwise buddy keep up the good work .

Yes quite right about holding on Phil, The lights were on only for another minute max to when I was filming there. The battery is done I think even thought I'm stringing it out as long as I can....these OEM batteries seem to only last 3 years or so it seems so will get the new one on. Such a good difference getting these RE Hunter shocks on for sure. Hope all is well with you.

That split screen thing with the shocks was a bit clever 👌 Those O/E progressive springs seemed reluctant to move at all, no wonder it was such a rough ride! 😳 They weren't far off behaving like a rigid backend from the 30s. I tend to agree with some of the other comments here...... Your non-start was a little bit self inflicted i think, probably the battery was on it's way out anyway. Your bar end mirrors look fine but they won't take much chuckin' around down the quay mind, i know what you'm like...... 😜😉 Good vid mate 👍

Glad your happy with the new shocks 😊,you could certainly see a big difference on your comparative shots. The funny thing is alot of hunter owner's/reviewers complain about the shocks being too hard on their bikes so strange how they seem to work better on the meteor 🤔. Perhaps you should lend your meteor shocks to a hunter owner to see if they improve their ride 😂

Hi - yes it's really strange because they didnt feel as good on the Hunter as what they do on the Meteor either....on the Meteor they "just work"! I do know of a Hunter owner. I will mention that to him if he wanted to try them.

Cars and bikes alike, once a battery falters change it and then trickle. When young couldn’t afford it, but in long run once a battery starts breaking down it’s time for a change. I used to be able to bump start my Citroen 2cv on my own on the flat running it and jumping in so light

well before I say anything - I saw the headlight and flashers on and had instant battery anxiety..... and rightly so! As the for the rest, christ I thought I was watching the OU channel! Great Job mate, the meteor shocks are made of cheese, I'm sure RE could swallow the extra £5 cost it would cost them to make them the stock ones, probably make them cheaper by not having to make/source such a variety of shocks - unless the originals are a job lot they wanted to use.

(That Garry seems to be a super nice guy, and very funny in a low-key way, which is probably the best way to be funny - and I look forward to Ruby, of course.) It died just like yours - it was fine, and when I hit the switch, it made the exact same noise. I thought, "It CAN"T be the battery!" Nope, I threw a new battery in and it cranked over like a rejuvenated thoroughbred. Thank you for the video, Exeter Rider! FG Rides in Pennsylvania, USA

Hi Steve, I don't know if I'm the guy you mentioned swapping shocks but after you mentioned the short test ride you were gifted, is swapped mine straight away. I have a Hunter in the garage as well but got lazy and just ordered some. I just don't think about them anymore. Brilliant. I like the mirrors, got a link.? I have a set of Stadium mirrors as well. They are an easy fix and if you get them straight from Stadium they are half the price. Just need to cut the narrow bit off the aluminium adaptor and add a "slightly" different Allen screw. They fold in which is useful. PS. The gear change linkage upgrade is brilliant as well. Gr8 video BTW.

I ride a Honda CMX 500 Rebel, so a competitor in looks and price to the meteor. Oddly enough, I hadn't needed to change any of the stock parts on the bike because they actually function properly from the factory. I just can't get behind Royal Enfield, I get the bikes are on a budget, so they aren't going to be perfect. But having a bike that rides comtably out of the factory, in my opinion, should be standard. This Honda is my first ever bike. After passing my full license, I did a test ride a LOAD of bikes, including the meteor. The meteor, in particular, didn't feel very nice. Its ride was very firm, and the lack of power left me feeling very vulnerable. However, each to their own very informative video and fantastic content as always.

And if you can live with the horrifically uncomfortable riding position on the Rebel for anyone over 5'6", and you don't mind paying 50% more for the bike in the first place, and you don't want a three year warranty, and you don't really want free breakdown cover for three years, and you don't mind if your clutch doesn't last very long (because it's a stacked design).... Then yes, the Honda is a fine choice I guess.

The rest you've just made up off the top of your head. Always one Royal Enfield nut who can't see the obvious floors in their motorcycles. the speedometer fogs up on the classic 350 not long after you buy one. If that's the "build quality," you look for in a bike, then that's your decision.

@@jamesnoonan7450 not "made anything up off the top of my head". I used to sell Hondas for a living. If you're happy with your choice of first bike that's great. When you've been riding for forty years and owned a lot of bikes, experienced all sorts and styles of machines, then you can reflect on which ones were the most comfortable. As for swapping a few parts to align the bike to an individual's personal preferences, for a huge number of bikers, that's all part of the fun of ownership. The Royal Enfield 350 J Platform bikes have been the biggest selling bikes in the UK in class during recent times and for good reason. Many people buying them have huge experience of riding, going back decades and they are very well regarded. One thing you got spot on.... I am a Royal Enfield nut. But we are all different. We all have different requirements. And we all like different bikes. And that's exactly how it should be. If you didn't like the Meteor, then it's good that you didn't buy one. Personally, I love mine and I also love my Classic 350 ( which doesn't have misted clocks lol)😜

Very good video Steve. Nicely done. As I mentioned previously, I'll probably get some Hunter shocks myself as soon as Buddy has passed his first MOT next year. He needs to be stock to pass the first one, after that, not so much. Your battery didn't appear to have died like mine did Steve. On my bike the fuel pump wasn't firing up and it couldn't even light up the dash and Tripper pod anymore. Once we got the bike started the ECU light was on and it said "Check battery". So mine was basically not present any more ! The way the starter was clicking, sounded like the battery was still doing its job. I think you may have been unlucky and had the starter stop in a sticky position, last time you started the bike. I had something similar happening to Norman when he was new. They fiddled with the starter motor and then it stopped happening. If that happens and the battery is not fully topped up, then yes, it just clicks and you are going nowhere. With a charged battery, it is usually strong enough to turn the starter past the sticky point and then it spins up freely and the bike can start. Have you had the battery on a charger and checked the volts ? Your battery certainly didn't seem dead to me and I reckon it should still be serviceable. Anyway, funny to see you effing and blinding again and it all worked out well in the end 👍🏻 Take care mate. Love to the Exmouth crew ! Garry & Ruby

Do you know what brand of shocks they are on the Royal Enfield 350's? I have a BSA Gold Star 650, the stock fitment shocks are "Gabriel" brand, I didn't think the exposed springs suited the shrouded front forks, I bought a pair ofr Girling shrouded shocks which are manufactured in the UK, the ride difference is night and day. The Girlings cost me £155.00, there are replicas available at £79.00, but I went for the originals.

I'm still slightly mystified and discombobulated Steve by this video having now watched the opening section twice and all the rest too. I tend to think it's the difference in travel that's made the difference in bump absorption. However, there will be a change in geometry and high speed handling might suffer as the Huntr is a considerably lighter bike. However, I'm sure you can explain.😉
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 16 күн бұрын
Hi Andy, The Hunter has the same frame and isn't much lighter. Its a combination of things that make the Hunter suspension better, much like the comparison section shows the gaps between each spring is much wider on the Hunter springs therefore the windings are easy to "spring" . As shown the Hunter springs slow a lot better. High speed handling is the same on the M5 etc just nicer....Hope that makes sense.

I'm getting rid of mine because of a Intermittent jerking, Dealer doesn't know what it is, Talked to other dealers they haven't got a clue. I've spent two hundred pounds trying to cure it myself. Even the loan bike did it. So it makes me feel there is a design fault. When I had mine serviced. The loan bike did it on the way back to dealer. No fault codes stored. And Only does it when you ride it for long periods of time, So makes me wonder that something is breaking down when a component gets hot. Pitty because it's the most comfortable bike I've owned.
