The Scram 411 finds its origins in the Royal Enfield Himalayan. While the Himalayan is an out and out adventure tourer, the Scram 411 does most of it, while being a better on-road bike. So, which one would you buy between the two? Do let us know in the comments below.

You asked for opinions, which would the viewer choose? Test rode a Scram and bought a new one. Over 45 years of riding I'd forgotten the spirit and soul of motorcycling - the Scram has returned it. First service and borrow the demo bike again for 100 miles. Then a service on my Interceptor (yes, seduced by that as well - traded a Z900RS for the two Royal Enfields!) and was loaned a Himalayan for another 100 or so miles. Having ridden three 411cc machines now, I can see a difference between the Scram and Himalayan. To give a conclusion before saying anything more - If pushed, I'm happy that I picked a Scram, but I'd have either/any one of them and be delighted. The Scram /may/ just have an edge on real dirty back lanes. The Himalayan holds a stronger line around a faster curve - good back roads or better - than the Scram, but the Scram is equally precise and easy handling as well. Set up the Himalayan and it's on rails, but corrections on the Himalayan need a little more effort where the Scram handles in a more lively way, due no doubt to the smaller front wheel. The Himalayan seems a little different in suspension. I believe there are small differences in the set up of the two, in suspension travel. Again, so similar, just noticeable. Having a headlight fixed on the Himalayan, as main frame mounted, or 'steerable' on the forks as on the Scram, may affect choice. Not to mention the Himalayan screen which some will dislike, or if they do like a screen may have a view on frame or fork mounting. There is a subtle difference in where the light points when cornering and the 'straight ahead' fixation makes for a different riding sensation even in daylight. Personally, I've always been quite happy with fairing mounted lights pointing ahead, but no preference in either - nor any problem with the screen, which is very good, or with no screen. I've been soaked twice on the Scrams, caught out with a poor weather forecast and the wrong clothes. Absolutely confident in the wet each time on the standard Ceat tyres - which surprised me. I didn't go out in the wet on the Himalayan, but I suspect it's just as good. On both of the soaking wet rides - each about 60 miles - I still felt keen to have done much more. It's a long time since any bike has made me want to keep riding. Add to that, both models are incredibly comfortable so no problem with distance - another aspect that my older body now reacts badly to many other bikes. With running in passed there is a lovely torquey engine opening up. There has been NO problem keeping up with road legal traffic on anything but dual carriageways. Modern traffic is so strangled that the Scram is perfectly capable of nipping by much of it except those drivers (and bikes) who have manhood issues. It's a superbly relaxed ride with time to see the scenery, which after a lot of superbikes, a pleasure I'd forgotten. Yet stir the box and it's engaging. You feel like you're not just merely wafting along on a sniff of throttle. What would I want on a long trip or touring? If it were to get somewhere quick on dual roads - a sports tourer, RT? GS? Maybe, but nope - probably a car! But if the route was my choice and time not an issue? Heck, I want to tour on this Scram.

Nice unexpected review. I'm trying to decide between both of them, and one thing I wish I could incorporate in the Scram is a windshield like the one in the Himalayan, only because of the adverse weather you get here in the UK, a decent windshield makes a lot of difference with front winds. Thank you.

Intrigued, definitely Intrigued. I have been looking at the Himalayan for a while now but with the scram release I might just go with the scram. Already have a touring bike, just need something to cruise dirt/gravel roads in my area. Any word on their USA release?

I'm going to check out the Scram 411 if and when it makes it to the US. A pair of them would make for nice, relaxing overland and WMA (wildlife management area) exploration. The Himalayan is a bit more bike than my wife and I need for the casual riding and exploration we would use them for.

Yes the scram has a place in the market. But the himalayan is so badass and practical I love the dual tank capability so you can go wherever no worries about running out of gas or water. The only low priced adventure bike yet solid quality. The scram is a solid bike but the himalayan is legend!

I do love the dashboard on the Himalayan at night, but during the day the graphics of the 411 are much sweeter. Can't compare them, both of them are really good bikes. Give the Himalayan a bigger fuel tank and upgrade the dashboard of the 411 and you have two unbelievable bikes.

The 411 was a waste of R&D and production cost.. There is nothing that it does, that the Himalayan can't do better.. I would have preferred to see a 500 single or 650 twin in a Himilayan..

Scram 411 is more affordable? Itna ghatiya statement, bro scram 411 jayada costly hai buz usme ABS switchable nahi hai, main stand nahi hai, tank guard nahi hai, navigation nahi hai, 🧭compass nahi hai aur luggage rack bhi nahi hai. Rate ka diffrence 10k to 12k ka hai To jayada costly kaun se hai dost.

I would not buy either one. Both are way too heavy for a 400cc with low HP. The Scram is pointless, RE should have invested the budget in improving the Himalayan instead of creating a near clone.

If you don't like it, you go on, no need to bring down a real good machine. The KTM isn't that good either, in offroad it's beaten by BMW, Triumph, ... on the road, the Hayabusa is using the KTM as a mop to keep the track clean LOL. Royal Enfield is a wonderful bike, all depends on what you want in life. Some want mountains, some want a beach others stay home with their family. Don't be so aggressive, karma is never far away.
