Thinking of the time when Prince William saw Rebecca English’s foot was injured. He saw to getting some ice ( frozen peas if I recall) to get Rebecca some relief. He’s got a good relationship ‘ regular people’ and the media. He seems to understand that everyone needs a hand, and if he can help he does. I'm sorry to say he doesn't always paint the honest Picture of the Royals and leaving out one small Point...can make a big difference in How Our Royals are perceived. Today was the ideal example...discussing the Royals Income he didn't mention that their private Income is Taxable and as we pay tax to the Monarch in effect...HM Tax Office. The Queen could have left it as the Monarch was except ...BUT Charles decided many many years ago... His Income will be taxable and he paid tax...and Then The Queen agreed and does the same... Prince Charles as he was...Greatly Changed the Dutchy of Cornwall and ploughed his income into It and turned it around in monumental ways ...And that's Pretty special !! He really is a world class landlord. Increasing his Income increases the tax he pays...Country Wins. Richard could have said...of course they have paid TAX on this income.

I agree. If they can't fit everything in the headline, then why not at least Princess Cate (yes with a C! Do they realise that Princess Cate is actually 1 letter shorter than Kate Middleton? 😮
@Gnv-q2m17 күн бұрын
Well Diana was born a Lady and Catherine a commoner. She came onto the scene as Kate but later asked even her friends to call her Catherine. Neither could be called Princesses directly as Anne, Eugenia, Beatrice and Charlotte are as they weren’t born Princesses. They could only be called by their names followed by the Princess of Wales title e.g Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Re: the question about William not having had an investiture as Prince of Wales. Richard’s response is very much an English view. As a Welsh person I appreciated William’s decision, and I don’t take it that he’s going to dial down on other pomp and ceremony. His father’s investiture was beset by controversy, including terrorist threats from Welsh nationalists. William and Catherine spent the first years of their marriage living In Anglesey, so I think they are a bit more clued in to how Welsh people view their roles as Prince and Princess of Wales. We love their support for Wales, but the whole investiture thing just stirs up memories from the distant past reminding the Welsh how the English conqueror invested his son as Prince of Wales in place of the rightful Welsh Prince.

The other thing to remember was that Prince Charles had effectively been Prince of Wales since he was 5 years old, so the Investiture was to mark him being officially recognised around his 21st birthday. I’m sad that the Welsh people STILL feel that way. Like many black people who want to live in the past. I’m known there are racists across the world but they cling to the religion introduced by white people as they have in our Pacific nations. As an Aussie we celebrate our convict past. One of my ancestors was from the north of England and stole a pair of boots and was shipped off here at FIFTEEN years old!! I’m very proud of him for making a good life for himself and his ancestors. Here you’re not a “real “ Aussie unless you’ve got a convict in your family tree. Of course when it comes to sports the gloves are off. EVERYONE loves beating the Poms whatever the sport. Just a tidbit for you. One of the highlights of my life was watching Australian play Wales at Cardiff Arms Park in the 1980s. It helped that we won of course but even if we hadn’t the singing that reverberated around the stadium was magnificent and the Welsh people were so gracious in defeat, congratulating us in our Wallaby beanies etc. Then we spent the night at a pub in Usk. I swear the apples I picked from one of the trees out the back were the best I’ve ever had to this day.

You’re quite correct Rebecca about the popularity of the Monarchy in Australia 🇦🇺 & the reason for it. I certainly feel the Westminster system of Government with the Monarch as a non political Head Of State, is the most functional form of democratic government in the world. I’m not saying it’s perfect. The incumbents of successive governments leave a great deal to be desired at times but the Monarchy remains a source of constancy & reason, guiding the Nation’s of the Commonweath into harmonious & mutually beneficial relationships both internally & externally. That was certainly the purpose & function of the late Queen & remains so for her son King Charles. We are fortunate to have them as dedicated to our welfare as they are.

I'm surprised at the confusion about William's investiture as Prince of Wales. At the time the sentiment in Wales was against the concept of PoW not being Welsh so William was sensitive to the controversy and chose not to have the ceremony. He made several tours of Wales and borrowed on his and Catherine's early residence as husband and wife and his employment as a search and rescue pilot. It was a considered decision by William and there is almost nothing said about it now.

It is Catherine, Princess of Wales. No one ever referred to the previous Princess of Wales as Diana Spencer. I think the media resent how popular Catherine is and try to belittle her.
@elizabethunderwood394718 күн бұрын
Diana Spencer was called Lady Di far more frequently than she was called the Princess of Wales. The use of formal or nick names by the public and the media shows that these people, who find themselves where they are by chance, are regarded as public property. That's the price they pay for their obscene wealth and privilege in a country where half our children are living in poverty.

All well and good for your Spanish wife, Richard. I have yet to read a Spanish newspaper which refers to Letizia Ortiz, so the Spanish seem to show more respect than British newspapers and media in general. Furthermore, 'Hola', the Spanish owner of Hello magazine, ran an article on European Royal women last week. They made reference to Maxima of The Netherlands, Mathide of Belgium, Victoria of Sweden, Mette-Marit of Norway, Mary of Denmark, Charlene of Monaco, and, you've guessed it, Kate Middleton. Were they to follow their use of titles for every other woman, the title should be Catherine of Wales. If we can't show due respect to our Royal Family, no one else will. Perhaps your august panel can give their opinion?

YOU could change the algorithms by never clicking on a Kare Middleton headline. No clicks will get the ĎM's attention. Catherine has made it clear what she prefers. Having said that, I wonder how much she cares about royal titles in the pfaff of daily life. I do think she cares as far as ceremonies, history goes. She really is a lovely woman, a class act.
