It was said that the Queen and the Obama's got on very well and when Michelle later visited London with her daughter's in a private capacity, the Queen invited them all to Buckingham Palace for afternoon tea, and arranged for the daughters to be driven around the gardens in a horse and carriage. The Moss Agate and diamond brooch the personal gift from the Obama's is also the one she wore when she greeted Donald Trump at Windsor Castle on his first official visit to the UK, the Queen was an expert of subtle deplomacy and the power of jewellery.

I forgot the Flame Lily brooch was the one the Queen wore, descending the stairs as she arrived as Queen, after the King had just passed away. I’m glad you’re focusing on the lesser known brooches. There are so many to choose from. And I like the story about Queen Mary and the Canadian maple leaf brooch.

She had so many spectacular pieces of jewelry to wear. It is nice to see some of the less famous pieces. I don't think that too many Americans noticed that subtle snub of Trump, but I did. I was happy to see the present from the Obamas being worn. No, it was not as spectacular as many of the pieces in her jewelry box. But I think she appreciated having something unique. It is easy to pile a bunch of precious stones onto a brooch without any regard or thought of wearability. But all of these brooches were thoughtful and unique. When your jewelry collection contains significant pieces of the Cullenden diamond, it is difficult to top that collection! So the best choice is to go with unique. Does anyone have any idea about what Trump gave Her Majesty?

@@ruthkletke Most of the late Queen's jewels are designated as Heirlooms of the Crown. This.means that they automatically pass to the next Monarch. I agree with your comment about Megan. Personally, I rejoice to see H.M. Queen Camilla wearing them.

QEII's broaches were lovely things she could continue to wear iwith dignity into her great old age. Large tiaras and huge necklaces, however, would be best left to adorn the necks and heads of younger ladies. Large necklaces, particularly ones with colored gems look quite garish displayed on the crepey chest of an old woman, and it's a pity convention requires it. I could hardly bear to look at Queen Camila wearing those sapphires

@joejanczak3014 Not so great, actually. He stumbled over her, walked in front of her, and talked over her -- all major breaches of Royal protocol. One of Queen Elizabeth's greatest assets was her ability to be gracious, even under trying circumstances. She exercised that fully when the Orange Baffoon went to visit. You would almost never see her react negatively to anyone at State Dinners or at State Occasions. She had a good turn of phrase and a great sense of humor. Britain was very lucky to have her.

The only diamond with a shady history is the Koh-I-Noor. Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India all have a claim to it, so short of dividing it someone is going to be unhappy.
