Thank you for this video! My dad graduated from the old Canon City high school, back in 1963. I don't think it is standing any longer. I've been there several times, but did not know that detail, about all license plates being made there, and the mountains on the plate being mountains specific to the Canon City area. Thank you so much for that bit of information that I didn't know!

We did everything you suggested except the train ride this weekend and it was AWESOME! The tunnels and the slot canyon made me feel like a kid exploring again. There are places you can climb up on the rocks to get amazing views on the tunnel trail. Next time we go, we will definitely take the train ride. Pro-tip for Pizza Madness: you can call ahead with your order and then eat there. The wait times can get crazy there. My family loved it all this weekend. Thank you, Jeanie!

Good to see the area open again. Closed a few years back due to fire. The vertical tram running again to go to the bottom of the canyon? First time the family went to the Gorge, you drove across the bridge to the far side. At that time, just a parking lot for more picture taking. The bridge was a bit of a zoo. Both cars crossing and people walking at the same time. At least they controlled the cars. Alternated having them drive one-way at a time.
@JeanieMarie2 жыл бұрын
Yes now I don't think it's drivable they have turned it into a paid attraction. Thank you so much for watching!

A private company has taken over the facilities at Royal Gorge. Their prices are outrageous, as is the price to ride the train - $89 bucks per person!
@JeanieMarie2 жыл бұрын
I feel the quality and value they provide were worth it to us, in comparison to other trains we've taken in CO. This one was definitely the best one we've done yet. It's a very nice train ride. Food and drinks are quite spendy though.
@timdowney67212 жыл бұрын
Charging full price while a main attraction, the gondola, is out of service screams rip-off. Yes, technically people have a choice…….but, most of the visitors likely come long distances to get here, so most will pay the full fare for half the attraction rather than cast around for something else to do. Unethical operators. 🤬
@JeanieMarie2 жыл бұрын
@@timdowney6721 I completely agree on the bridge and gondola. We were pretty disappointed that we still had to pay full price especially since the Gondola was the thing we were most excited about doing. So it was pretty expensive to just walk on a bridge without the Gondola ride. Agreed.
@radfem2010 Жыл бұрын
I went to Royal Gorge Bridge in the 1980s while attending high school in Canon City. The gondalas aren't the original ones but were rebuilt after the original ride was destroyed in a wildfire in 2013. Went to Buckskin Joe's when it was open.

You had to walk across bridge to get to the rest of the pork,petting zoo,,western cowboy town with shootout skits A ride where you lay on your stomach.& it swings you way out over the gorge and back. Not sure if you noticed but rocks that the pavilions are made of are full of Quartz Crystals. And the gift shop was amazing. Not sure what they kept or lost after fire but is an amazing place to see

If you ever travel to Sydney Australia, be sure to do a bridge climb on the Harbour Bridge. I'm a little scared of heights, but it's just the right amount of fear. Enough to be thrilling, but not enough to overwhelm me. It's a bit spendy, but well worth the money. There are different route options. I took the route along the top of the bridge framework. The other options climb stairs up through the framework, which struck me as worse for somebody with a fear of heights.
