@@funkydrock Hi! I prefer piping bags, but to be fair, I haven't ever tried bottles. Bottles just seem messier to me, so I've always stuck with bags. And you definitely do not need 2 consistencies of icing for each color, but if you're still figuring out icing consistency, you may want to stick with a thicker consistency to outline and a thinner to flood. Once you get 20 second consistency figured out, you can both outline and flood with it and that's what I prefer! I talk about that here if you haven't seen this video yet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaLcgKWvhaqYnKc Let me know if you have any other questions!

Can you do a non projector video demonstration of your font transfer on cookies please?

Hi Julia! I'm not sure how soon I could get a video up, so here's an explanation of how it's done: www.sweetambs.com/tutorial/piping-without-a-kopykake-projector/ I hope that helps!

Where can I purchase the letter stensil for the projector? Thank you!
@SharilynsCookieStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! I didn't use a stencil for the projector. I traced a font on to the cookie with an edible marker. I hope that helps!

Was this the 20 second icing consistency you used ???
@SharilynsCookieStudio2 жыл бұрын
This is piping consistency. Piping consistency is still slightly movable but holds its shape better than 20 second, which is why I use it for lettering. I hope that helps!

I notice your icing has a slight gloss/shine when dried. Mine dries sort of dull. What are some tips/advice you can share on getting a glossy look once the icing dries? I actually followed your recipe for royal icing. Perhaps it’s the kind of meringue powder?

Add some karo corn syrup
@SharilynsCookieStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelley! I'm sorry I'm just now getting back to you on this. My icing dries fairly matte as well. If you're seeing a shine, it's probably because the icing isn't fully dry yet. You can definitely help add some shine by adding a little bit of light corn syrup to your icing, and also drying your cookies in front of a fan. In my experience that can only help so much b/c the nature of royal icing is to dry pretty matte. I hope that helps.. If you have any other questions please let me know!

What size tip did you use?
@SharilynsCookieStudio2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy! I used a PME 1.5 tip. I try to list all products used in the description box if you ever have questions. Some of my earliest videos may not have them, but my more recent ones will. I hope that helps!

Thank you, Sharilyn. I noticed you mentioned you have a projector. I don't know if you use a Kopykake or Pico. I have a Pico projector but have had difficulty downloading fonts. Would you consider sharing a class on fonts?
@SharilynsCookieStudio5 жыл бұрын
Hi CJ! I use a Kopykake projector. For fonts, I just get them from dafont.com usually and they download easily from there, and then I print out what I want it to say and use it with my Kopykake. Is it a totally different process with the Pico? If so, I don't think I can help much with that. Let me know though and I'll be happy to help as much as I can!

love this! what size tip did you use? also how is your cookie white frosting look like its raised? how did you do that?
@SharilynsCookieStudio5 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen! Thank you! I'm not totally sure, but I usually use a #2 tip, so that's probably what I used. And the icing will just naturally dry like that. If you keep it just a tiny bit thicker, I find it will dry a bit puffier, so that's what I normally do. I hope that helps!

On the projector, what all did you need to buy with it? Does it just hook up to your phone or laptop?
@SharilynsCookieStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Amber! If you click the link in the description box, it'll show a picture of the full projector. It doesn't hook up to anything; it's different from a Pico in that sense. You print an image from online and tape it inside and it projects it down on your cookie. It's very low-tech. For some, that may be a negative. For me, it's a huge positive, LOL! I absolutely love it. It does take up a lot of space though - that's the one negative to me. If you have any other questions, let me know!

What brand marker do you use? I’m having a hard time finding one that has a fine tip so I can be accurate in forming the letters and fine details.

How do you get the black not to bleed?
@SharilynsCookieStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristina! I try to not oversaturate the icing with color, which I think makes a big difference. I also try to use the thickest icing I can get away with - thinner icing definitely bleeds more from what I've seen. I also put the cookie in front of a slow fan immediately after piping to help it crust over, which may help some too. Good luck!!

Do you have any tips on how to write using the food pen? I've tried multiple times and it seems to melt the icing and it bleeds.
@SharilynsCookieStudio4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ellenaj! I've struggled with this a bit in the past too.To start, you want to make sure that the icing is fully, 100% dry on the cookie. If it's not, the pen will go right through it! You also want to use as little pressure as possible. Even if my icing is completely dry, I've poked holes in cookies by just using too much pressure. It also may be worth trying different brands of edible markers. What have you been using? I really like both the Rainbow Dust dual ended markers and the FooDoodler markers.

How do you get such a dark black icing color?
@SharilynsCookieStudio5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tahmina! Black can be tricky. I'll usually color it until it's a charcoal/dark gray color, then I'll let it sit and develop for 30 minutes to an hour if I can. Also, icing with darker coloring will darken some once piped as well, so it always deepens up a bit after it dries. I hope that helps!

Love these beauties. What would you suggest if I wanted to make the writing gold?
@SharilynsCookieStudio6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To make the writing gold, you would need to pipe the lettering in white (or the color of the base icing), and then paint on top with gold luster dust mixed with food grade alcohol or extract once the icing is fully dry. My favorite is CK Imperial Gold. I hope that helps!

Even with the thicker consistency, I still cannot make my icing smooth like you do here. It's so frustrating! I always have lines in mine where you can tell where i'm trying to smooth it out. Any advice?
@SharilynsCookieStudio5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian! It sounds like your icing might be a little too thick. Sometimes I'll get lines too and it's always because it's just a tiny bit too thick. Maybe try adding just a drop or two of water and hopefully that will help!
