As the first line of the British Army, it is in our nature to lead the way in times of change. The Royal Irish Regiment is evolving and we are excited for you to embrace these new times with our entire Regimental family. In this video, the Colonel of The Regiment explains the changes we are undertaking, including our new social media hashtag, #IRISHRANGER.

This is fantastic. As a former infantry captain in the US, I applaud all of the courageous men and women of the Regiment for serving their nation in these challenging times. I’m also very happy to see the Regiment incorporating many aspects of their ancestor units. I only wish that more military commanders would have the courage and ingenuity to incorporate more historically significant items into their units since it is an inexpensive way to boost morale. The USAF recently painted a few A-10 jets in WWII paint schemes such as with black and white “Invasion stripes.” As we say in the US Army, “Rangers Lead The Way!” #RLTW! 🇺🇸🔗🇬🇧

@@noodlyappendage6729 it's not gross exaggeration millions of irishmen have served in the British army, in the first part of the 1800s directly following the acts of union over 40% of the entire british army was irish, even up until 1918 hundreds of thousands fought in it. hundreds of thousands of irishmen also died in the name of Britain. Some of the most senior British officials were Irish, Arthur Wellesley, Sir Henry Wilson, Kitchener among others. Irishmen won the most VC's second only to England. It's rather sad that today their sacrifices are mostly forgotten even by those in the UK. The first posthumous VC winner of the first world war was Irish, the youngest British soldier to die in the war was Irish (14 year old boy from Waterford) the first to fire a shot in the British army was Irish. There is no shortage of Irish people even today joining up, and I say god bless them. We're lucky to have them.

Some of the comments on here from Irish & British are really disappointing. A trow back to troubled times, which I hoped were fading. My maternal Grandfather was English and was a Major in the British army & I have a maternal Great Uncle who is buried at Sandhurst. My Mother's family have Ulster roots. My paternal family are Irish through & through. I respect the history of the Royal Irish. Material family served. The Irish army is small. This joking about the Irish army is disrespectful to the men & women who serve & served in it. British people don't like their armed services disrespected so please don't disrespect mine. The history of our nation's are tangled whit hate, violence, anger, fear. We are entering a time when Northern Ireland's future is in the hands of the Security of State for Northern Ireland. If he/she feel the majority want reunification a referendum will be called, as per the Good Friday agreement. Ireland, the UK and all communities in Northern Ireland must use this time to understand each others fears. Should Ireland rejoin the Commonwealth? Should Irish be an official language in the North & Ulster Scotch in the South. 12th of July a national holiday in Ireland? What happens to the Royal Irish regiment if unification happens. It scares me what could happen if a referendum is passed and with no framework as to what happens next. People have valid distrust, on both sides. But in my view some of the comments on hear, only add to that distrust. Respect and learn, too much time has been wasn't.

Ireland will never ever re join the Commonwealth. This needs too be respected. One thing is for sure Ireland will unite, its the natural progression of any nation. It should of been allowed along time ago.It also has too be done peacefully as well. All traditions have too be redpected.Ireland will continue too be a member of the EU.Thats where we belong.

Well, pay is a major problem. I have read far too many reports of solid soldiers having to leave the IDF because they just couldn't afford the bills, were almost homeless, or already were. @@David-lu4gqExactly. Thankfully there is a bit of a schism going on recently between the minister for defence and the defence forces themselves. If you look at the news of google it should come up. Anyway it’s not the defence forces that don’t want to pay their fine soldiers, it’s the minister for defence. The army now want control over their money and the future for the idf looks promising. If all this happened then man power wouldn’t be such an issue. Also one last thing, they need to improve conditions for the soldiers. That’s another thing that drives them away.

Should be really.. 'Royal Northern Irish Regiment' imo They're from a British based, trained and funded army. Unless they're interested in joining The Irish Army, are they proud to actually be Irish? are they truely Irish when serving in a foreign army whose serves under a monarchy. Debatable.. they are all actually Northern Irish, except when it comes to rugby, then they REALLY want to be Irish again (in otherwords, whenever it suits them) somehow I feel there would be a very quick u-turn, and they would be begging to be called something different, as opposed to serving in an actual Irish unit and the only one left would be the wee Dublin lad they managed to find for the video at the beginning, the last one left.

I am fed up hearing that Northern Irish, Ulster Scot Protestants have an all Ireland dimension to them and that they should embrace that. And when they do,they are criticised, such as with the Royal Irish Regiment. My view of modern Ireland is a socialist, papist state which bases its identity on an anti English, anti British platform. Yet the Ireland of Patrick, a member of the Celtic culdee church, was indeed a land of saints and scholars.
