Gives me shivers too....the crowds that day in Belfast were unreliable tens of thousands along the entire route. Its without doubt the best homecoming parade any British regiment has got in modern conflicts. The support, atmosphere was truly amazing.... trust the Loyal people of Northern Ireland (Ulster) to rally for our troops ! BRITISH & PROUD

@TastyCake001 Yes there are lads from the Republic of Ireland in the Royal Irish Regiment and in many other Regiments of the British Army. Sadly some brave soldiers from southern Ireland have been lost serving in Afganistan and Iraq with the Royal Irish Regiment and the Irish Guards.

I have heard, many times, that over a third of its members are from the Republic. I believe it. The Nationalist hate-mongers have lost their grip on the Republic and few Irish youth have time for their filth anymore. We were all united for 800 years. It was not always bad. And facts and reality have a way of flushing lies down the loo. No?

bulletproof vests capable of protecting against rifle fire cannot practically be worn concealed. They require either steel or thick Kevlar plates to stop high velocity rifle bullets. It is heavy and is not designed to be covered by a 'blouse'.

Late reply sorry but Irish regiments of the British army were always the most successful and been from the republic and a proud Irishman I still see that as something to be proud of and have no problem with people from the republic who keep up the tradition. If only extreme nationalist and unionist's would stop hijacking different parts of our heritage it would be much easier for people on all sides to look with pride on all parts of our culture because the British army was part of all our culture at some stage and still is to a degree and helped people from both traditions on the island escape poverty. The first Republicans in Ireland were protestants mostly from northern Ireland but that was mared by IRA violence. We shouldn't let a few bigots of both traditions put us off admiration for the good parts of all traditions here eventhough we ourselves aren't part of them all our ancestors at some stage in history were .

Just wondering ... why dp they need police proteciton?
@garethrodgers6630
@garethrodgers6630 9 жыл бұрын
Terry Turner The PSNI are wearing protection because of the history of Northern Ireland and the troubles. It's not unheard of actually quite common that the police will still get attacked by home made bombs or general anything that can be thrown. Now Northern Ireland is way more peaceful than It would have been from 1969 - 1998, Northern Ireland is making a very good turn over making it easer for the Protestant and Catholic communities to live in peace with each other but of course there is always a few that lash out both on the protestant and catholic side that make Belfast look like a war zone again.
