Small Unit -1 to hit doesn't have to be a "team" unit it just has to be an infantry unit. Pg 54 in the description of small unit (it is target is a small unit not target is a small team) it indicates that it doesn;t matter how big the unit was at the start of the battle, says nothing about it needing to be a team so you played it right :)

Yes as long as there is only 2 or less it is a small team/ unit for targeting and hitting, no matter how big it was originally. I seen a regular Japanese infantry squad of 15 hold an objective after turn 6 due to being only 2 men and so no hits for the US player and so it went to the Japanese after turn 6 was done.

what a great scenario, i just started collecting bolt action and theres almost no players around, sadly. so i just ooze over my army instead of actually playing it :'( everybody around here just plays warhammer, which i quit in 8th, because GW doesnt care for gameplay anymore... well they actually didnt care for a long time for me as a tau player with half his codex (and models) being useless for many editions. i started collecting tau, because it had so much wonky stuff going for it, like kroot lists etc, but everybody has been playing the same units for probably 10 years now, since everything else in the book is absolutely useless and never gets updated... im not paying for that garbage anymore. they just release space marines anyway. final nail in the coffin was an updated farsight enclave with no models to buy (except farsight himself, which is made of terrible resin and (because its an old model) being way too small compared to up-to-date commanders, also illegal, because the base is too small - GEGE)

The one German unit I am starting to use more and more is the Panzer Zestorer Truppen, Road to Berlin campaign book pg 110, where they are 7 men but you can arm it with 3 Panzerschreks teams or a combination of Faust and Schrecks, I take them as 2, Schreks a single Panzerfaust and SMG armed man and the NCO and other with SMG's and AT grenades. And armed as such they come in at 150 points regular, compare that with 2 Panzershreck teams and they cost 160 points total for regular experience level and have no way of really defending themselves against infantry like this unit can. I have stopped even things like KV-2's and IS-2's dead in their tracks as they do not want to fall within the 24" reach this unit poses to vehicles.

A few things I picked up in the first twenty minutes of the game... indirect fire weapons can't be put on ambush, German machine guns have the buzzsaw rule so roll an extra dice (5 not 4 for lmgs) and, this one wasn't clear, but the spotter looked awfully close to taking some friendly fire up the arse. There needs to be a 1" clearance for units to fire past friendly units.
