At the time it came out people were kind of burned out on WWII fps games. Combine that with how much people loved and wanted more COD4 and it makes sense why it wasnt as popular. However it came out when the companies were still focused on making good games instead of just money.

Well, technically in Black Ops II you face more multiple nationwide terrorists from Cordies Die and PMC, also asian military forces that either voluntary or forcebly joined the SDC rather than the Russians. You face the first two cases often in the campaign, meanwhile, you only face the Russians undercover in one level; Old Wounds.

Well they are nazi soldiers so it's not inaccurate statement. Many soldiers weren't nazis per se but majority of them believed in their cause as a righteous war for German glory and to get rid of slavic enemy in eastern Europe hence why so many Wehrmact participated in the numerous atrocities and war crimes on the Eastern front.

As for the captions in Portuguese i couldnt remove them but i couldnt find the full documentary without them. Take a look at them if you feel like it. Also as a fun fact and for your awareness about 80% or more of the german units served in the eastern front and the vast majority of their losses during the war were in in the Eastern Front. Fun fact: The Mosin Nagat's stripper clip had to be removed by the user before the gun was fully loaded due to the fact that it wouldn't pop out like the Springfield or Kar-98.

Actually neat trick if you have a mosin, if you nose up the top cartridge as you're pushing down with your thumb in just the right way, the stripper clip actually pops out automatically. You can see it happen in Battlefield 1. I didn't think it was possible until I tried it myself with my 1934 Tula arsenal hex receiver 91/30.

To your notes about Russian involvement in WW2 I must add that people also tend to forget that Russia (CCCP) signed a pact with Germany BEFORE the WW2 and were "allies" (material assistance, spliting Poland between Stalin and Hitler). Allies until the german attack in '41.

Hello! Quick fact about Russia during WWII since OH is interested: Hitler and Stalin signed a treaty of non-aggression in the early years of the war. This treaty, called the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, also included a secret protocol in which both countries were to follow in the instance that either one decided to invade Poland. When Hitler invaded Poland from the West, Russia invaded Poland from the East, as per the treaty's secret protocol. Also as a result of this treaty, appeasement was very important for Britain and France in accordance to Russia as the Allied countries were worried that if they were too hard on Stalin he would be pushed closer to Hitler, making the incoming war much more difficult to win - impossible, some would say. I am a college student studying to become a Social Science teacher at the secondary level (middle and high school), so it was required for me to take several world history classes which included both World Wars.

Also Russia's role in WWII was massive in terms of manpower. Due to Stalin's arrogance yet stubbornness and brilliance , he threw millions upon millions of Russians at the front lines, knowing Germany couldn't deal with the sheer number of men. Stalingrad was arguably the turning point of the entire war (along with US entry), as this was the final German offensive of the eastern front. In total, about 22-27 million Russians would lose their lives for this war. Their sheer numbers, ferociousness, and unwillingness to surrender cause the Germans to focus alot of attention on the eastern front, subsequently allowing the western front to advance in the Allies favor. In western culture, Russia's role is easily forgotten in the midst of cultural tension and glorification of the west (not to say that britain, france, and the US played small roles; each country played a part in Germany's downfall). A good video for the overall war that included russia's role is Oversimplified's video on WWII. I highly recommend checking that out.

A small clarification: despite a common misconception in the West in terms of military losses in the Eastern Front Axis and USSR are not that different ~9-10 mln Axis soldiers (I'm not saying Germans, because there were also Italians, Romanians, Hungarians, nationalist battalions and defectors from Soviet republics etc.) and ~11-12 mln USSR MilCas - Soviet losses were tremendous at the beginning of the war, but as soon as Germany began losing its strategic initiative the losses started to even out, and by the end of the war when it was USSR who now had the strategic initiative German losses far outnumbered those of the Soviets. The rest 16-20 mln Soviet casualties were civilians, since the Nazi occupation was extremely brutal to the local population, and, the Reich, basically, wanted the most fertile and resource-rich territories of the USSR to themselves, to be repopulated by ethnic Germans. Belarus alone lost around one fourth of its population during the occupation.

the first time i played WaW was on the xbox 360 and I had it hooked up to my living room tv, bcause we were remodeling our house and my room was half demolished. My mom was in the kitchen cooking, and all she heard was this sniper music non-stop for like 45min. She was losing her mind. So I had the added pressure of trying to finish this encounter to progress in the game as well as keeping my mom from killing me. My mom actually came over and tried to play the game which was hilarious, but ironically she got the "grazing" shot before I did.

A common misconception is that all german soldiers in the war were NAZIS, which wasn't the case. Members of the Wehrmacht were the standard soldiers in the war that were conscripted and were just normal ppl forced into the war, some were volunteers, yes, but most weren't. THE SS were the elite forces of the German war machine and they were made up of mostly NAZIS that did in fact volunteer and of course, the High Command of Germany at the time was made up of mostly NAZIS.

There's an amazing 2 part documentary on KZbin called The Complete History of World War 2 - by Top5s, it's a sort of long documentary but he does a great job at showing the entire war and not just the American side, you would really get a great understanding of the war

If you think the Red Army in Stalingrad had it bad it was worse for the civilians. Their food storages were all stored in big warehouses the Luftwaffe bombed. The situation was so bad for many who lived there. That they resorted to cannibalism.

It’s interesting how you’re conditioned to stay in one position to sniper. So much so that he didn’t think to change position to throw off the counter sniper who knows your position. It really was an game of cat and mouse.

If you’re a fan of this mission, I suggest watching the film “Enemy At The Gates” for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Those who have seen it will agree that it’s a great film about Vasily Zeitsev (A Russian Sniper) who takes out lots of the Nazis, and he is being hunted by a German Sniper. The first part of this mission is paying homage to that film as it starts very similar at a fountain and he’s “playing” dead etc. A great watch

The dismemberment effect is in the cod ww2 (2017... i think), and also in mw2019, u can have it if u buy one of the weapons that has dismemberment effect but most often youll see it when you get killed by a V-TOL

Fun Fact: the German sniper in that Standoff is using a non scoped Kar98K, and he does 360 no scopes X'D (Also his character model changes randomly each time you play it) , I beat this game on Veteran and it was a pain in the ass it wasn't so much the difficulty it was the need to stay in cover but then the enemy would throw a million Grenades to flush you out and it was immersion breaking. I get being issued with a hand grenade or two but it was ridiculous back in the day. I think it handles the era best miles better than WWII. can't wait for your future parts ^-X

Soviet Storm by Star Media is a good source to know a fair bit about the red army in WW2. It's a TV series featuring from the beginning of the war all the way to their role in defeating the Japanese Imperial army. It does not have many interviews as most documentaries do, but great animations and storytelling, focusing more on the military side of the war, with a great explanation of the tactics used back then. The soundtrack is also brilliant in that TV series.

Great gameplay! If you like the darker tone of this game's story, you'll love Spec Ops: The Line. It's a really unique war game with awesome acting and an extremely meaningful story. It's just the right game to play after the Call of Duty marathons.

If you want to know about the war, there's The Armchair historian who goes through the fronts and theaters of the war in perspective of each country with animations. Another one would be Extra Credits who also explains the events in the war, and what happened in the background of it. Oversimplified Also goes through the war in a comedic fashion, and is very easy to digest information in a fun manner.
