You gotta remember the teams were the New York Mets and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), two of the states that were directly effected by the events of 9/11. There’s a solid chance that someone there knew someone in the towers. It was very personal to them almost more than the rest of us in America.

14 innings in baseball is a very long game. It’s rare that a game goes that long. A lot of people probably left because they had work the next morning because May 2, 2011 was a Monday.
@willracer1jz4 ай бұрын
17:53 that baseball game went into extra innings so it ended almost at 1am because in America we keep on playing until someone wins, we don't do ties. The normal 9 inning game would've ended around 10 to 10:30pm, so a lot of people left before the end of the game because they had to work and go to school the next morning.

I was watching that game because my boyfriend (at the time) was there with friends but they left after the 10th inning. Also, that game way beyond boring & frustrating (Phillies left way too many guys on base!) The stadium was packed until the 9th though & then everyone started leaving.

I was in art class. I lived (still do) within commuting distance from NYC, everyone's family had someone working in the city. The news came over the speaker, and I remember my best friend at the time, his dad was NYPD and usually around the trade center. My dad was mid-town. Our school scrambled for early dismissal. We were all panicked about our loved ones. Forunately, my dad was in mid-town and we were able to speak to him, he was stranded for maybe a day or two before being able to leave the city. My friend's dad was not in lower Manhattan for some reason, I forget why, but he was okay too. Then summer '03 rolls around and decides to get my dad stuck in the city again... I refuse to commute to NYC for work and leave my family worrying should something happen.

As an interior design student we had to learn how and why the Twin Towers collapsed in case such unforseen tragedies occur in future events. We learned that the metal beams were left unprotected with no flame/heat retardent coat and the intense heat from the fires of the airplane fuel heated the metal up enough to make it brittle and bent them enough to create a chain reaction which led to the Twin Towers collapsing. It was an unforseen circumstance that led to the Twin Towers being vulnerable to malicious attacks. Watching the documentary about the explaination of why the Towers fell as they did and it made me so sad and angry at the terrorists attacking our people in such a cruel and horrid way all over again. Osama bin Ladan knew the best way to attack and spread fear is to attack his enemies homeland when their guard is dropped. I'm so glad he finally was brought to justice and never lived to terrorize again. 😢

This specific game wasn’t that significant to the season, even though it was rival teams, because it was only 4 weeks in (MLB starts in April & finishes the end of September. Playoffs begin in early October to early November.) Also, Sunday MLB games are during the day (starting at 1:30pm) but ESPN has one premier Sunday Night game. Unfortunately, this game was low scoring, left too many men on base & went into extra innings - which is why the ballpark was cleared out. NFL is about 3/3.5 hours, MLB 2/2.5 hours & NBA 2/2.5 hours - all including commercials & commentary. None of our sports end in ties & could last a lot longer.
