Ey brother, i think its extremely important to train this way of warfare, they need to combine this though with drone warfare, battlefields are rapidley changing, MRAPS, APC, IFV´s and tank warfare must adapt to this, same with air defence systems, a big NATO exersice is currently going on from the Netherlands towards Germany and into Poland called Steadfast Defender! I´m ex military from the Netherlands, Air defence, Mechanized Infantry and Recon^^ keep the vids coming, never been deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq but the military many Nato militaries have are based on that theather of war, now Nato faces a modern army like Russia: tanks, drones, an advanced airfoce and Navy.... these days are getting scary, like your vids keep em coming, From the Netherlands, bless you.

Former infantryman with the Canadian military. We trained in trenches during Battle School in 2007/2008. Our training was more general, then once in our unit we had specialized training before we went to Afghanistan.

Those trenches are so narrow, no firing step and no grenade sump. The trench training would help in situations when you would have to deal with waddies, aquaducts and tunnels. A lot of this reminds me of the training I had to do when in OSUT for 19D back in 98.

Honestly though trench warfare is likely to be a big thing in the future of warfare we also need to understand that it could also be not and just in more context to this conflict in the way we are looking at it. Really we're not actually learning anything new about this conflict at all rather simply relearning things we already know but with newer tech in use with past understanding. Find anything that you think is new and if I was someone who bets you with find with near 99% promise that it was an old idea long before. Really what we should be reviewing is something that has been a slowly yet fast trend for decades and that is urban warfare and what real major conflict demands which is the west current weakness for many countries... Manpower and the means to impose conscription upon their populations. Hands down the biggest issue of our time. The numbers don't lie and people need to come to terms with the facts that a all volunteer system is doomed to failed by design in the long term always and should've never been thrown away in the first place and the excuses are frankly not worth hearing anymore because if we're being honest most who are arguing against conscription or the idea don't know anything about and honestly have no arguments. We are learning that our forces are focus at dealing with small ands short term issues rather than actual threats and long term matters and like it or not as it stands right now the only major power right now in the world that has this means is Russia. We can't lie about what could be our enemies and we need to realize and be honest and most of all self-aware that we could all get our rears kicked badly. It's time to be humbled and actually learn what we don't really want to learn which might make us look bad.

I'm Australian and my uncle fought the Germans in Africa in WW2. He told me tales about digging in and why the Germans called them Rats. Something they came to honour. The Rats of Trabrok, I'm sure i got the spelling wrong but I'm sure you know who I mean.

I’m curious as to your thoughts on the current strength of the U.K. military overall. I’ve educated myself a little bit on the problems with recruiting and equipment acquisition. Do you think more needs to be done to reverse the decline in numbers and equipment? Cheers brotha and hope you have a wonderful weekend!

As long as humanity keeps having wars, trench warfare will never be completely gone. Even if the bigger militaries don't engage in them much of it if at all, smaller countries and their conflicts will use the tactic as resources and manpower neededto wage modern warfare are simply beyond their reach.

I did a course 82 with the Royal Engineers and they had a trench digging machine which never got used because infantry commanders didn’t want to use it, as they said it wouldn’t always be there so get shovelling, time to get it out of mothballs.

You gotta think about it though over there in Ukraine. They’re doing trench warfare QCB Small towns cities I mean there’s a lot going on there and there’s a lot of farmland where they’re fighting at right now and I think that’s what really what Russia wants. Is that dark rich soil that they have

Worth noting that trench warfare became "popular" during the Crimean War--also in Ukraine against Russia. It was studied by all militaries in Europe, first hand in some instances (as observing officers). It was due to this exposure that the practice was used by officers in the American Civil War in 1864-5. And eventually why it became a factor in WW1. With the invention of the tank and faster, armored infantry, trenches became obsolete (e.g., the Brits against the Italians in Africa early on), and since most campaigns waged by NATO forces involved having air superiority in conflicts after WW2, trenches again were useless. The only way trench warfare becomes viable is when there is no dominant air power, because AG attack aircraft and ballistic missiles would decimate them, as well as any enemy artillery batteries. Carpet bombing vaporizes minefields. And the accuracy of artillery today also doesn't bode well for anyone in a trench--something Russia has learned facing off against western artillery platforms--but again, with air superiority, you can keep your arty in the best spot without worrying about it being sniped by the enemy. So really the question is: Is NATO capable of dominating an opponents airpower? I think we certainly have better pilots, better equipment, and better logistics than Russia and China. So I think it's possible. And again, if so, then all of this trench warfare training is really not worth much. Only if we assume that we won't have air superiority does this become a viable path.

when neither side has a signifficant advantage the frontline will become static and that is where trenches shine.

You don't need trenches when you have a military like the USA. Air power is key. And so is the armor mechanized group. Trenches I believe is for defense. I'm non military. And willing to bet trench warfare is a defensive battle.

Something like 70% of casualties in UE is from artillery, mines and drone deployed munitions. Imagine putting in all this training to be killed by a 20 year old controlling a drone flying above you dropping a grenade on you. Modern warfare sucks in it's own unique way.

Yes, it still is a thing of the past, for any country that doesn't have sufficient stockpiles of precision weapons, artillery shells, HIMARS, glide-bombs and Napalm. Napalm alone will render trench warfare completely ineffective. BTW, "Napalm" is not outlawed internationally. It's only outlawed (reasonably) against civilians. BTW, why is there no UK flag behind you? Have you no sense of loyalty/patriotism?😯 Weren't you a proud member of the UK military?🤔

It is incredible how westerners became ignorant about war. What you speak is true for frontline of few 100km but Russian/ukranian front is much bigger. Russia has Tornado (same as himars), glide bombs, napalm and other precision weapons but still they fire at least 20 000 artillery shells EVERY DAY on ukranians. The only way to defend yourself is to dig in if you are not advancing nor attacking.
@beesnestna9544
@beesnestna9544 Ай бұрын
@@user-di5rm9ee1p That's because Russia AND Ukraine both failed to achieve "air dominance", something that the west would establish early in a conflict. Ukraine doesn't have much of an Airforce and Russia's Airforce is made up of aging and/or over-hyped aircraft that do not meet the standards that they claim to. Yeah, Westerners are "ignorant about war😆", like the devastation we wrought upon Iraq (very quickly I might add) in Operation Desert Storm against the 4th largest military in the world at that time. Go back to school little boy, and this time pay attention to your teachers.
