Hi come across this video. I received my Green Lid in 1988 Dundee Detachment Reservist. I was 18 years old. I did 1 years training before going to CTC. My job at the time was an apprentice Painter and Decorator. We we very lucky having ex full time Marines from 45 going into civvy street and joining us reserves. RMR Dundee was part of HMS Camperdown in the centre of Dundee right next to the river Tay. So water sports was easy access. Hard training but I loved it. Unfortunately arthritis stopped my career back then.

Hi mate, I think you may have answered it in the video but I was just wondering once they change training back to being part time how long it would take to complete? And also during the training if it would be every weekend you'd need to attend or would there be some weekends off? Thanks for your help, keep up the good work mate.

As a reserve whats the deal with shaved faced and head in training ?
@TheDude-m2n
@TheDude-m2n 6 ай бұрын
It’s just shaved face unless medical grounds or religious. Hair needs to be standard issue but it doesn’t need to be a buzz cut

Once in the reserves can you get posted on ship with 42 and if so how likely is it you can get that posting & is part time training likely to come back soon, thanks

Thanks for sharing. Really good. I think if you want to serve and want a combat role, do it in reserves. Why go full time and all you do is train, train and train. Not really a job, just training for when/if sh-t goes to f-ck. Personally find it odd why one would do such a role full time. Look how the Swiss do it. The community gets together to support both a persons civilian (real job) and the need to have civilians defend their country. Always admired the Swiss for that. Mind you it's not Ukraine, Switzerland if surrounded by friendly furry friends, not c-nts like poor Ukraine. Peace to all but as the navy says, "if want peace, prepare for war."

Hi, Sam, I want to become a Royal marine because it's the ultimate test and a challenge I feel up for. I'm 26 with family responsibilities, so I think the reserves may be my only option. Quick question, mate, can you turn down ops as a reserve? Or do you go where and when you are told, like the regulars? Cheers

I'm pretty sure when there is one that requires the reserves it's pretty much the same as a regular when it comes to going or not going

Hi Sam - just wondering how flexible the training for RMR is with regards to training weekends? I’m trying to understand if this would be viable for me due to the fact that I’m a shift worker, so I get some weekends off but I also work some which I wouldn’t be able to get off. I’m wondering if RMR would be flexible with that and allow you to attend different weekends if I was to miss any due to full time career commitments. Look forward to hearing your reply. Many thanks Fred

Hi Sam i'm looking to join the Royal Marines next september, i also go to empowered fit on wirral near arrowe park, just wondering if you do any personal training or classes revolved around royal marines training. I have already been trying to nail my rope climbs and excercises revolved around what you see in training, but would be nice to have an Actual royal marine give some advice and training, cheers mate. 👍

Like Sam said, you can transfer to become a regular and you don’t even need to go through proper recruit training to transfer. But I wouldn’t recommend doing that. There is a reason that non ex regular reservists get called rubber daggers. It’s because it’s an easier way of becoming a Royal Marine Commando. Some lads may not care, but there will be a lot that do when they find out and will treat you as such. If you think you’ll want to eventually become a regular, just sign up as a regular. If you fail recruit training, try again or then become a rubber dagger.

Hi mate. Was with during what the process was for transferring from Army Reserves? I'm a Siggy currently and looking to get my PTI qual soon, but would I have to redo all of basic training or just phase 2? I've contacted my local RMR but they've only said they won't consider any transfers until after the reshaping in September. Cheers for your time

I've always wondered why they don't even let you take the board unless you've got a green lid. In the Army Reserves, there are a couple of units that require you to be a bod before they let you go to Sandhurst, but that in itself doesn't preclude you from going to Westbury. The argument is that you get to bond with those you will eventually command, so you do your initial phases at unit. But you can still get the board out of the way surely. The only reason I can think of is the embarrassment of YO's failing the commando course, but surely the board does a pretty fine job at weeding those people out at selection (officer attrition in the regulars is significantly higher than bods according to an FOI document from the MOD)?

Hey bro, I’m a university student, i’m entrepreneurial with a dream to own a successful business, but I know I lack self discipline. I’ve always wanted to become a solider because it has always been very interesting to me. Do you think joining the royal marine reserves would be good for me as a person who lacks discipline in order to be able to fulfil my end goal of providing for my family and becoming a successful businessman?

wrong field man, you either sure you want to join and to through with it or it’s not for you. I would much rather recommend becoming disciplined in your everyday life, eg waking up early, doing your bed, fitness, and focus on your business goal. But do what you will, it is only an advice
