This is a total crock. It was dealt with comprehensively by Guttfeld (Fox) a few months ago. Tyrus who is a regular and is black has had offspring with various females including white. Tyrus says that every mixed race couple wonders about and speculates on offspring skin colour. In the Caribbean, lighter skin colour is desirable and a woman who marries a lighter-skinned male is said to have 'raised her colour', by virtue of the likely lighter skin of her children.

I married a dark-skinned Thai, she and I wondered in great detail how our mixed genes would manifest in our baby, as did all our friends and families. Little did we know that we were being "racist"!!! (I rather hoped my daughter would inherit my wife's gorgeous skin, and perfect teeth. Sadly not.) Same for my my friends: an Egyptian marrying and having children with an Italian, a pale Englishman marrying and having a family with an Iranian. Green subsidies force taxpayers to pay more for the same unit of energy used by someone else. Subsidies should be used in cases where national security, or some such other interest, takes precedent over economics. The only argument for a green subsidy is one based on concrete national interest and I have yet to hear one.

Good discussion about immigration. The Home Office is mired in complacency and wishful thinking going back up to 3 decades. Their recipe for controlling legal immigration has become a "points-based" system which requires no real judgement by caseworkers and is easily manipulated, and they think that passing yet another law they can reduce illegal immigration. Year after year these nostrums have been shown to be useless, but every new incumbent to the office of Home Secretary is bamboozled by officials who are clueless, as has been shown by the two who faced a House of Commons Committee this week.

americans do not mind legal migration? if you talk to americans whose jobs are actually affected you will find that the h2b visas have long been a scurge in the IT services, displacing domestic professionals with masses of poorly qualified, cheap and obedient workers mainly from india and other low cost countries. physical immigration is only a tip of the iceberg in this regard and for each foreign worker present in the UK, there are 20 or more working on the offshore basis. from my personal observations, british companies for the past 2 decades have been spending fortune developing workforce in India. given current climate of plitical correctnes and enormous cost of living gap between india and uk, this type of job leakage is far more pernicious. quarter of century ago graduate salary for visa worker was in the range £26-30K. the modern "skilled" immigrants still command only £26,200.

I’m puzzled. Not once during the debate on immigration did anyone dare to point out the real driving force behind the massive growth in immigration figures post-Brexit. Business. Employers. They want, indeed insist on, and will continue to get (whatever tub-thumping nonsense the politicians and the tabloids continue to spout) an endless source of cheap, uncomplaining labour. This is (apologies to all) straight out of lesson one, day one at the Primary School of the Bleedin’ Obvious. So why was everyone so shy about mentioning it?

Ref the bit where they were talking about China and the green investment at one point they start talking about Sunak vs Johnson ref green targets etc and in effect criticising Sunak for his stance (him rolling back from the front foot stance Boris had), I've no issue with the discussion or the point however you do need to remember that Sunak did provide reasoning for this in that he said we needed to focus more on supporting the economy ref growth and the personal finances of people given the challenging financial times we have at the moment (energy costs, high inflation etc), so yes he's rolled back from where Bojo was but he is trading one problem off against another and I would argue he's doing the right thing in the short term to do that. Additionally ref the green agenda / net zero targets firstly the 2035 gas boiler to heat pumps thing the heat pump technology simply isn't there yet and we need to see more evidence of how effective they can be in an environment like the UK (lets not even go down the issue of infrastructure deficiencies and the heightened cost of heat pumps vs gas boilers), progress is being made and there are some good stories on these devices coming out of Canada and Scandinavia but we need to see that proven over longer periods before we dive into that technology with both feet. As for EV's well the issue is that the problem EV's face isn't being dealt with as quickly as was predicted, we have 3 major issues that need to be addressed before EV's become the answer for the majority not just for the minority as they are today:- 1. Battery composition - Lithium and Cobalt, both expensive, both relatively rare and Cobalt difficult to extract not to mention it being mainly present in countries that aren't open to mining it in a way most would be happy with (slave labour at the point of an AK47), we need different battery tech's or at least improved battery techs to minimise the amount of these chemicals we use 2. Solid State development - Probably the best upgrade to the current battery tech as it will increase range significantly (estimated to be by at least 30%) which will make most EV's realistic for the majority of drivers in the 1st world, also will improve charging times which again will add to the appeal (currently best option you have for a car is a Polestar 2 2023 model with 406 mile of range, in the real world with the average person driving that means in truth about 300 miles max and a fast charge time of around 40 mins to 80% (giving you 240 miles of range), imagine extending that real world battery life to 400 miles and taking the charge time down to 10 mins to 100%, that's what solid state batteries are threatening to do, game changing). 3. Real carbon footprint of EV's - The reality is an EV from an environmental perspective if taken into consideration for all factors isn't really saving the planet as you might think, several studies have been done to assess the cost of manufacturing and sourcing of the raw materials for EV's and the news isn't good, in short its estimated that you would need to drive a standard circa 200hp diesel car for between 60,000 (best case) and 90,000 (worst case) miles before the EV's carbon footprint would go below that of the diesel car with its higher emissions of burning the fossil fuel over the charging of the EV before the EV becomes environmentally better from a carbon emissions perspective. Point "3" is the latest blow to EV's, all of the above can and I'm sure will be addressed but back to the original point of Sunak "diluting" the green agenda, with this kind of stuff hanging over the EV's you can understand why the right decision is to take a step back and wait for the much needed improvements to manifest themselves before we force folk to have to go EV. As a final aside just to show how much the great British public are really bothered about this stuff, there was (and still is) a project to swap out circa 20% of the natural gas supplied to homes with pure hydrogen, if this were to be rolled out then that would take the equivalent of 2.5 million diesel cars off the road (as the carbon that would have been burned in the natural gas has been replaced with pure hydrogen thus no carbon emissions will come for that 20%), what do we get...bunches of moaning residents at the trial villages (Whitby near Ellesmere Port BTW) raising objections and refusing to take part in the trial, in the end the government had to abandon the trial in the end, as usual lots of flag waving and vitriol about this being so important right up until it causes any inconvenience to them then its the end of the world and they don't way it, same issue with wind farms of course, lovely green energy but not next door to me if you don't mind.

Annoying comment about people of faith not liking the homeless or poor being among them. I think we know that the reason the walls of the multi-faith prayer/ contemplation area don't go to the ground is so that urine and excrement can be hosed away. As for its drabness: there's a fine Protestant, tradition of clergymen and churches being austere and/or plain ugly. Your contributor seems to have adopted that dress code and I'm fairly certain his church doesn't have the rich decoration of many Hindu temples or Roman baroque houses of worship.

Where I live in Paris there are SDFs (sans domicile fixe) who go religiously to the many public baths every morning, get their clothes laundered or replaced at the various vestiares (Red Cross, Secours Catholic, Emmaus or indeed at several churches of which mine is one, excuse my halo 😇. You can eat three decent square meals a day at the soup kitchens. Public libraries are a haven and day centres abound. In short, you can live more or less normally if you want to until night falls. Or you can spend all day lying outside a metro station in a puddle of your own waste, can of Vandal-strength lager (™️ Martin Amis) in one hand and begging cup in the other. Plenty of those around I’m afraid. But I do admire and support the ones who make an effort to stay civilised, and they do still seem to be winning over here. Although immigration is making itself felt, as in most walks of life. I wonder how the life of a homeless person in Paris contrasts with that of a Londoner?

I found the discussion on EVs & net zero particularly interesting. The dropping of targets & failure to properly invest in these industries sensibly is a good example of how our government is letting us down. It's short-term thinking, myopic & weak to not stick to the plan & sell it to the public to get their backing. Change a few specifics & this could be describing a Labour government...or any long term project for that matter, like the NHS, the Armed Forces or the benefits system. The failure to plan effectively & follow through isn't a partisan issue. Back to the specifics though, you seem to be reciting a talking point from the culture war whereas we were leaning towards the economic consequences of the environmental policy. A thriving economy helps all of society & most businesses do well with certainty so they can strategise & invest. Without getting into any current ideology, green technologies are good business. If they succeed here in the UK, those businesses could pay taxes, increase employment opportunities & so on. Boris had a good vision in this regard but he didn't get everyone on board & deal with the boring details so it got changed & changed again. Uncertainty breeds fear & we are where we are with no one happy. Our government fails us, regardless of party, by not making long term plans.
