I say it`s worth what you paid. Those are old but give us a good look into firearm history. Besides, you rarely see these antique rifles. Very nice!

The Gras rifle was made at the St Etienne Arsenal in France. The words on the side of the reciever are "Manufacture D'armes" which translates to "arms manufacturer" and the S stamp signifies St Etienne. The 1881 stamp is the year of conversion.

First smokeless powder cartridge was the 8mm Lebel 1886.

That was never a needle fire rifle it was built in 1881 as a 1874 gras, it would say 1866-74 if it was a chassepot conversion

My gras came bedded on strips of ancient course cotton cloth.

Considering it is from RTI, this isnt that bad. You're right, they have definitely gotten better with shipping. Condition of the rifles isnt bad either for what they are.

What's stupid about using classic rifles for Hunting? I've personally used a whole bunch of classic military rifles to hunt with. They work and it's no worse than using great grandpa's 30/30.

Did these come straight to your house or do you still have to go through an FFL for these?

Do to them being antiques you can have them sent straight to your house, you just need a valid drive license
