@ yes Prince William is the Prince of Wales, but the above is his Northern Ireland title. When he goes to Scotland he is known as the Duke of Rothesay, in Cornwall he is known as the Duke of Cornwall. Depending on where in the UK or Northern Ireland he is he will use his appropriate title to that area, even Duke of Cambridge or Earl of Chester.

Ireland is not quite unique, but almost so. It is one island with two different political systems. There is a border between those systems, but the people on the other side of that border are our neighbours, and the very least that we can do is to be good neighbours and talk to them.

A colony is governed by another entity which has dominion over it and possession of it as part of a more powerful nation/kingdom/empire. Ulster or NI, which was dominantly English-Descended Protestants when the rest of Ireland left the union (The UK), elected to remain in the union. This is embarrassing ignorance on your part. It is also stipulated that should enough NI people seek to reunite with what is now The Republic of Ireland, a referendum should be had. Take a look at the polls. The support for reunification is not there. Look up the definition of colony. It is not a COUNTRY which is voluntarily part of a greater nation and union. It is a foreign-governed territory. NI is not.

@@oml81mm Like the island of Hispaniola, containing both Haiti and Dominican Republic, but of course without the major cultural differences as the border in the Emerald Isle is fairly new and the island was once one, even with the English settlers and their descendants, the Emerald Isle contains one sovereign, independent nation, and one part or country of another sovereign, independent nation and union which the other exited. So it is more than just the political system but different nations altogether now until which time, if ever, the Northern Irish vote to reunite with the rest of the island and join The Republic of Ireland.

This doesn't mean that Scottish families who all live in Scotland are not still British! The nation has four countries, not one! It is only a handful of them.
