As I learn more and more bushcraft skills I often find that there’s a video out there that Shawn already made. Thank you, sir! So grateful that you’re out here teaching these valuable skills.

Pretty nifty. I used one as my main pack for a couple years when I was in my early 20’s. I read it in Mors Cochanskis book and then Dave Canterbury made his video. I took what I liked from both and made my frame. I like smaller diameter sticks, I think it looks better. Not that that matters much. I liked Mors suggestion of running the shoulder straps through a loop so they float instead of them being fixed to the frame. I have weird shoulders and packs are always uncomfortable for me. Except for the tone. I could just put it on and rock it a little and it would fall into place where it was comfortable. I used some recycled pack straps instead of rope or mule tape since I used it so much. I’m the only thing I didn’t like about it was how long it took to get in and out of for the smaller stuff, but I ended up figuring out how to fold the outside in a way it made a pouch so I could keep my possibles in there without having to carry my haversack

Very good but I make the frame with a slight difference which improves it. For the lower part of the triangle I cut a branch of greater thickness, 3 to 4 inches in diameter, and split this down the middle. Select one half for use and discard the other. The advantages of this are a stronger frame and a more comfortable fit on your lower back when carrying. Because the lower frame member is thick it can be further trimmed with the knife to achieve exactly ythe shape to suit your back.

It looks like you are using woven bank line. Is it substantially better than twisted bank line?

Great interpretation of the Roycraft! I like it. The names Roycraft though not Roycroft. I’m not sure how that got so messed up all over the place.

Thanks for mentioning this! Thomas Roycraft was my grandfather and we are immensely proud of the legacy he left behind in the survival community. If we can help get the spelling correct that would be amazing!

Bushcraft 101 by Dave Canterbury calls it a Roycroft. I don't know a whole lot about the author, but the book is a NYT bestseller, so his book is likely part of the problem
