This is just wonderful to watch come together. I see so many influences from your other builds, but wrapped up into such a cozy package with a lot of style. The fact that you could put this in a standard parking spot is just incredible.

So many options! It will end up like the model, Baby Blue sides, Mahogany cabin and beige roof, possibly two tone as there are some layers there that are designed to add thickness on the edges but also it will direct water to the back corners so I can replenish water supplies without visiting a marina! Should be very cool! BestRoy

Roy - It's coming along quite well! Myself I'm getting more and more tempted to do something like our Malaysian Brethren and make a skiff/dinghy using poly barrels for the skin of the hull perhaps taking the fastening and joinery up a notch. It is amazing though to see how quickly they can make a sturdy skiff using the plastic drums/tanks which are already waterproof and rot resistant. Best!

best reason to build a boat around a steering wheel if you already have one
@roydesignedthat9 ай бұрын
Any time I see a nice one, I'll pic it up! You can see another, bigger one on the wall in the back ground. Now I have to get to that bigger sailboat design, I sketched years ago! Lol!

Beautiful built! What type of glass do you use for your windows? thickness?
@roydesignedthat2 ай бұрын
Thanks BT! I used 1/4' Lexan. I find Plexyglass is brittle and cracks easily when compared to Lexan! The difficult part of working with Lexan, is it is strong but soft! I am very carefulnot to scatch it and often fail. I had older, free to me, stuff that had some scratches already but used it to save on build costs! It still turned out pretty good. Also I needed to select the correct drill bits to piolet drill for screws! Too small and the Lexan grips the screw so tight, it will snap!!! Too loose and you know... Once accustom to working iy, it is straight forward! A plusis it dampens noise in the boat and 1/4in is very strong if a wave hits!!! AllthebestRoy

Is it possible in the design to build this boat with the cabin roof to be a walkable deck
@roydesignedthat8 ай бұрын
Yes, if the ply was thickenned,, two layers of 3/8" for example, rather than the one as MiniD has.. I'd imagine you'd also want a flatter roof. The cabin sides, etc coud also be reworking but this would change the look but still offer the useful interior space!. I can stand on the roof as structurally, it is designed like and eggshell, giving it max strengtt, while keeping it as light as possible! It is designed as a hard top, not to be a diving platform. Simularly, you would not walk on your car roof or Teardrop Trailer roof, I'd do so only for maintanence. BestRoy
@roydesignedthat7 ай бұрын
Actually, a better way would be to keep the roof as is but then add extra framint that sits in top that fit the curve but flattens the top and then add deck boards to it. Picture a foof rack of sorts but you would add the decking to it...BestRoy

Duck and Quack. Looks great, is this one wider than Dianes Rose.?
@roydesignedthat9 ай бұрын
MiniD is as small as I could go and still offer similar comforts, like our DIANNE'S ROSE...She is 14X6, 8"wide and 5', 2" interior height but with "pop up" hatches to get full head room when camped or on the go...I'm excited with how MiniD is coming! More to come! BestRoy

got any plans for this one?
@roydesignedthat9 ай бұрын
I will be working on plans after a season of testing, Leo. My process takes time because I always build my designs. This really helps the design evolve, and I can work out the finer details. But testing is also important. By using the design myself, it ensures I produce plans that will be successful! Sadly it does take time, though! Stay tuned. AllthebestRoy

Somewhere in the 1000lb range but I will weigh her at scales when done to confirm! I\ve seen these wheels used on the side of antique boats and I was tempted to mount it on the head bulkhead but I think where it ended up is awesome! BestRoy

@roydesignedthat9 ай бұрын
Thanks G! Marine Hardware is best but costs! I think this door latch, being aluminum, should last, and if not, it is a cheap item to replace. But I wanted a custom look, and by cutting it short, it turned out perfect for MiniD! What are you building? AllthebestRoy
