Whoa I just thought of something while watching this a second time that smacked me right in the face. When mike and Sullivan are heading back to monsters inc to try and send boo home mike is freaking out and says "loch ness bigfoot the abominable snow man they all have one thing in common pall...banishment we could be next. " what if all those monsters were ones who disobeyed orders or found out about the kidnapping and threatened to expose them and they were banished to keep them quiet.

So while watching your video I had a thought about expanding on how the Monsters INC. got all their information on the children. Most likely there is either a side company or secret side section of the company that is of opposite nature to the scare section. This area would probably deal with the young to very young children before they are old enough to be scared. This section would probably work as information gatherers and since the organization has been in the family for generations then it's likely they could get information about adults too because they were once a young child too. These workers of the secret floor would make friends with the children to get info about the human world, albeit very childish in nature. Because as seen in most forms of entertainment as well as stories, children often have what we know as 'Imaginary Friends'. It is very likely that these monsters working in the secret section are these 'Imaginary Friends' getting to know their target for information. This also explains why the children don't look too scared to be in the monster world when their picture was taken as well as why they are looking away at something, most likely their 'Imaginary Friend'.

Hey i tough of something that is kind of stupid but is sort of believable what if they were to kidnap children a night making the kids think there dreaming so they won't be scared of the other things such as monsters and making the kids trust the monters as they think there in a "dream world"

A deleted scene in Monster U showed that particularly tiny monsters disguise themselves as bugs and take photos of the kids faces(which does explain how the kids look: imagine if you had what you thought was a housefly buzz up to your face and you had a brief second to wonder "does that bug have teeth?" before your momentarily blinded by a flash of light, and the bug leaves- making you wonder if you just imagined all the weird stuff.), as well as to gather information on their other traits, like what fears they MIGHT have via various observations of their rooms and body language, or how far away their parents sleep from the kids rooms in case they should try to check in on them. I like your "Imaginary friend" idea as well, the deleted scenes method COULD be ONE way to get quick information on kids, that could be updated with information "Imaginary friend" monster gathers (including information that changes, like say the kid overcomes their fear of snakes one day after actually seeing some at the zoo or something, or gains a NEW fear after seeing a scary movie.), but I have a couple thoughts on "Imaginary friend" duty- THOSE monsters might be aware of kids NOT being toxic- and may have gotten hints about laughter being a better power source through actually getting the kids to laugh, and maybe having some monster technology that gets supercharged when working, I think the latter can be explained as "not taking anything that could be left behind", though, and as for the former- SO many ways the CDA could use to keep them quiet. Also said imaginary friend monster would probably either have to be VERY careful not to be seen by anyone else, or limit visits to only while the kids at home, or anywhere where said monster could make a quick trip back to monstropolus- I'll allow for the bedroom door to be a separate portal from whatever portal said "IF" monster uses.

Martin Gray Yeah but it doesn't make sense to have this huge beneficial, easier to produce and superior form of energy and keep it a secret. Hell if Waternoose knew this, he would be on board with this wouldn't he? His company would be loaded in cash, and he could even let some people go so he would pay people less. He would potentially make twice as much money sooner if his company revolved around laghter energy than scares.

Yeah, but, I wasn't talking about keeping laughter secret- I was talking about keeping that kids aren't toxic secret. I just said that they would probably have hints on the laughter thing, but maybe they didn't bring any important technology that could be overloaded with laughter energy. I don’t even think the CDA was aware of that, I think the only time it ever came up was cause of boo, since most monsters would probably NEVER encounter a child laughing until then, if their only interaction was limited to trying to scare them.

The real question is if the humans have confirmed reports on monsters taking children, why haven’t at least some parents stood in their child’s room with a gun to prevent this. I’m pretty sure 1000+ cases of monster snatching children would prompt at least one person to try to defend their child.. and if they do successfully kill a monster what’s stopping them from making an attack on the monster world to find these children

Has anyone ever realized that the kids who are scared might remember and tell someone. I got a theory because I do. The children are scared probably through their nightmares that happen at least 4 times a year. (idk) and so when a monster enters the human world, they scare the kid, then the kid probably gets so scared they pass out or supposedly “wake up” from the nightmare. I just thought the theory sounded right.

Something that just occurred to me: The Agreeable Snowman. It's implied that he got banished for tampering with the mail system at the end of Monsters University, and that might be true, but consider, the most information dense place in Monsters Inc is the Records Room, but the second most information heavy place is probably the Mail Room. Perhaps the CDA wasn't the first one to start suspecting things and go digging, or maybe Roz wasn't the first member of the CDA to go undercover. I mean after all, it doesn't make much sense for Agent 001, the founder and essential leader of the CDA, to risk life and limb when not only should she probably not be doing field work anymore at all, but also leaving the CDA scrambling for proper leadership with their leader 'Banished' while there's still an ongoing investigation would be... well REALLY bad. Maybe they sent spies before, and they kept getting Banished, I mean it's not like Waternoose checks in with anyone when he does this, he probably just Banishes the Monsters who find out and lets the rumor mill tie up the loose ends. Mike does talk about Snowman and Bigfoot at the beginning of the movie as though their fates are more rumor than fact. And like, speaking of Snowman, he's rather chipper for a creature whose been living in the himilayas for years right? Almost like he's greeting kindred spirits, People who were banished for the same reasons he was. I mean that'd make a lot more sense than Roz going in herself for the very first try when arguably she probably should have stayed off the front line. She sent in Snowman and maybe even Bigfoot, they both get Banished for seemingly weird reasons ( I mean messing with the mail is a federal offense here too, but granted how Monster society as a whole thinks humans are toxic Banishment is essentially a prolonged death sentence, kind of a harsh punishment right? unless of course it was a cover for something else) and Roz, knowing her people aren't just going rogue on her, takes the mantle herself, being the head of the CDA if something happened to her while she was undercover there's no way it could just get swept under the rug.

The other Monsters Inc movie gives you more insight to Roz. At the end of the movie she tells Mike and Sullivan and she will be watching them. I would assume when she found out that the graduating class was getting jobs at the scare factory she wanted to be able to keep a close eye on them. That and depending on how long they have been there, and when Roz started working there, might help prove/disprove some theories.

Other than Boo being a robot. BNL COULD be trying to stage a war against the monsters, it could be time travel, and boo could both have been sent in by BNL as well as be the witch. I just rewatched the film and noticed that when there is a sock on the back of one of the monsters and the CDA turns up, Waternoose doesn't seem to want them there. He literally says, "Oh, not the CDA!" and later gets cross that he now has an entire scare floor out of use I also wanted to mention that when they turn up, Roz abruptly shuts her window, as though she doesn't want everyone in the CDA to know she's working there undercover.

If you take into account Monsters Inc, Monster University, and the new sitcom Monsters At Work (very canon, it references its on timeline very clearly), then it could be proven that: The Abominable Snowman was actually the one who alerted Ros to the whole thing with kidnapping children, prompting her to get the job at Monsters Inc, causing his banishment in the first place even though there is a red herring at the end of Monsters University where Mr Abominable says that looking through people's mail is a crime punishable by banishment. Given that Monsters at Work shows that Waternoose is in prison, I think what may have happened is that Waternoose was banished, but he found his way back to the monster world. So, they chose to imprison him for (hopefully) life. It was close enough to banishing him to the human world.

Roz banishing Waternoose would be a sweet ending but it could also doom for Monster world. Waternoose is a smart monster and he could easily thrive in the human world. What if, as I mentioned a few moments ago in one of the lead-ups, the CDA is like the EPA? And why does Monsters Inc. need to advertise if they are the only energy providers? Roz is, in my mind, nothing more than the Chief Agent in Charge. Not the director and certainly not the founder. This clears the gaping hole that is the entire populous thinking kids are toxic (the ground work has already been done), how she had the authority to surveil and arrest with impunity, why the CDA is an annoyance but not a threat, how they have all this infrastructure and equipment with no income, and possibly other smaller issues. To my thinking, the scream shortage is more on a generational scale and has to do with desensitized youth. Big harry jumping out of the closet will scare a three year old every time, but as they get older the less effect jump scares will have. Over time, the age at which standard scare tactics work and the intensity generated has been going down. On to detailed knowledge...... Some monsters have the ability to effectively go invisible, others could be readily disguised as humans short term. Anyway... back to Roz. her being a government plant from the agency tasked with maintaining the separation of the monster and human worlds (I'd say it is self preservation, too many kids disappear and humans will investigate eventually finding the portals.) makes for a natural annoyance at the flippant attitude toward the paperwork, the only thing that allows for catching irregularities in monitoring all scare opperations.

Could be the CDA is a monster government agency, and Roz got recruited after she quit the company after getting wind that something fishy was going on. Through the years, she rose through the ranks until she landed the 001 position, thus she finally had the pull to set up the undercover op at the company and get the goods to bust up the kidnapping ring.

I really enjoyed the second part of theory. What I find interesting is how artists & creators often will try and tell an undisguised truth through their art. Monsters Inc is no exception of that. The creators were trying to tell a message through the story and you cracked the code. The creators would’ve probably put more proof of the monsters kidnapping children if the higher executives of Disney didn’t cut out scenes.

Wait did you know that there was a deleted scene in the prequel Monsters University? The scene show miniature monsters dressing up as flys and going threw the key hole of the doors and taking pictures of the kids with out them knowing and using of what they see about there room they say what the kid is scared of and then bigger monsters write it down and make the photo bigger!

So how does the Boom Studio comic of Monsters Inc. fit into this? In case no one knows what I'm talking about: Monsters, Inc.: Laugh Factory is a four-issue comic book miniseries set after Monsters, Inc. that was published by Boom! Studios in 2009. It was written by Paul Benjamin with art by Amy Mebberson. Monster Fink (Issue #1) The issue begins with Sulley looking at a new advertisement made by Fungus for the company and it's new laugh energy initiatives and Mike hitting the top of the day's Top Scarers list. George accuses him of stealing props from other monsters, including himself, in order to get a high score. Mike denies any involvement in thievery and asks Sulley about a raise and maybe coming to dinner with him and Celia that night, but Sulley has been worn down by paperwork. Thinking of a way to cheer Sulley up, Mike brings Boo back into the Monster World and asks Sulley to meet him in the locker room. After a quick reunion, Mike's locker door is opened and props belonging to other monsters spill out. Boo nearly overloads the system from laughter and Sulley gets suspicious of Mike and while Mike takes Boo back to the door, Sulley makes a call to the CDA. Mike is arrested, which Sulley didn't intend, having only wanted an investigation into the matter. Earning Celia's anger, Sulley looks into the security footage of the locker rooms and finds signs that Randall has returned and framed Mike. Randall then comes in and attacks Waxford, who's manning the cams, and plans to pin assault charges on Sulley. Sulley and Randall fight through the building and make their way to the Laugh Floor. In order to expose Randall, Sulley pulls the fire alarm and the water makes him visible. Randall is arrested and Mike is set free. Sulley apologizes for what happens, though Mike thinks Sulley did it just to lure Randall out and the issue concludes with another visit to Boo. Fear Factory (Issue #2) When kids are becoming too frightened to laugh for energy collection, Mike and Sulley investigate possible causes. Roz informs them that Waternoose has escaped from prison, leaving him as a prime suspect, with evading the CDA leading them to think he could be hiding in the factory and using the doors in secret. They devise a plan to set Boo's door as the only one active door to try and lure Waternoose out of hiding, though Celia insists on keeping Boo safe at her workstation. When Mike accidentally triggers a trap Sulley laid out, Waternoose bursts in to "scare the child", only to find them and immediately shuts the door. Sulley stops it from closing all the way and he and Mike discover an unfinished one-of-a-kind scarier Factory floor designed specifically to create more Fear during the old energy crisis. They also discover how Waternoose has been getting around: A prototype "Master Door", resembling a bunch of doors assembled together capable of entering any bedroom connected to the Door network. Mike is prepared to destroy the door because of the danger, but Sulley hesitates, recognizing how the Master Door tech could make collecting laugh energy more efficient. Waternoose appears to convince Sulley to a partnership, offering to teach him how the Master Door works and revolutionize the industry again. Sulley sees through him and recognizes all he wanted to do was sabotage him and a fight ensues. Waternoose escapes into the door and Sulley destroys it instead of pursuing him. The issue ends with Mike still having trouble making a kid laugh and resorting to using the malfunctioning trap after Sulley tells him there's been no sign of Waternoose since they increased security. Toy Worry (Issue #3) In a crossover with the Toy Story franchise, Boo is awoken from her sleep by Sid Phillips (though he is never directly named) coming through her closet carrying a duffel bag. He is on the run from the Monsters and asks if he can hide, with Boo thinking it's a game of hide-and-seek. Mike and Sulley arrive in the room to search for Sid, who has discovered the Door network and is using it to steal toys from kids, threatening the monsters ability to make kids happy as well as the safety of the Monster World in general. When they leave, Sid comes out of hiding to thank Boo, but she soon discovers that her Jessie doll has been stolen. She puts on her Monster Disguise and chases into the closet after him. While roaming the halls of Monsters Inc, Boo comes across CDA agents looking for Sid, though they leave just as Boo spots him dashing through the hallways. As Boo pursues Sid, Celia spots her, but ends up grabbing the tail of Mrs. Nesbitt (the company daycare lady). As Sid desperately looks for a corner to catch his breath, Boo arrives riding on the back of an unsuspecting George Sanderson. Just as she is about to tackle Sid and retrieve Jessie, Sulley grabs and scolds her, giving Sid enough time to escape towards a ventilation shaft, followed by Boo and Mike. Mike gets stuck, and Sulley is distracted by Mrs. Nesbitt recognizing Boo's disguise as "his adorable daughter". As Sid emerges from another vent, Sulley throws the costume at him, frightening Nesbitt, and succeeding in catching Sid. Frightened at the sight of human children and fearing an infestation, Sulley tells her to evacuate the building quietly while not specifying the reasons as not to create a panic. As Mike and Sulley turn Sid into the CDA authorities, he explains why he stole the toys: After seeing the sight of toys coming to life and attacking him during the climax of Toy Story, he decided it was best to save other kids from them, as well as making a few bucks off of selling rare ones. The monsters don't believe his ridiculous story of living toys and send him back through his sister's door. As Mike and Sulley take Boo back home and muse about how toys coming to life would be quite a story, the last panel of the issue has Jessie winking. Issue #4 The final issue brings all three villains together. At a CDA briefing, it's reported that Sid has begun using door technology again and he has broken Randall out of prison. Roz suspects the involvement of the still-at-large Waternoose and that a plan for revenge on Mike and Sulley is imminent. This turns out to be the case when Sulley finds himself trapped in their hideout when leaving Boo's room after a visit, with Boo having snuck in on Sulley's back again. Mike and Celia are also there, having been grabbed by the villains earlier. While the villains scheme on how to enact their revenge (though Sid is more interested in getting paid with the plans for door technology to get rich in the human world), the monsters try to make Boo laugh to reactivate the door and make their escape. The villains overhear them and come in to try and prevent an escape, but Boo laughs at the sight of Mike and Sulley held upside-down by their legs and her door is activated. Celia makes a mad dash through to get Boo to safety and the villains pursue them. Running through the neighborhood to find another active door, they evade Randall and Waternoose before trampolining through a window into a kid's room and waking him up. Sid comes in through the open window and manages to subdue Celia, but her hair snakes bite her in the nose and give her and Boo enough time to enter the door. When the three villains go into the door after them, they find that the CDA have already arrived. Mike and Sulley are rescued, Waternoose and Randall are sent back to jail and Sid is again returned to the human world with the hopes that he's had enough of monsters. The story ends with Mike being assigned the bedroom of the frightened kid who saw the chase, now keeping a baseball bat in bed with him, and getting attacked.
