Paint won't last near that long. That's one of the big problems with expensive "lifetime" roofs. You could spend 1/3 of the money, and something that could be replaced in 20-30 years, and it would look new again. But really it's nothing the current owner would worry about.
@cm014 жыл бұрын
@@smhammer92 well the paint is there to prevent rust mostly, and if the owner keeps on top of repainting it (which I'm sure not a lot of contractors would be super eager to take, even dedicated exterior paint guys) it could indeed last 100 years.

30+ year GC who was never a fan of metal because is so often hacked. We did metal treating it like your working on the hood of a corvette. So unbelievably refreshing to see someon putting metal on with care, no scratches, etc.. Our local lumberyard always teased us for ordering butyl tape with our roof's. NO ONE,.. in this area, and I mean NO ONE, uses butyl anywhere, ever. Trim is just smacked and screwed, no closures, no closing your profiles... Really quality work here man.. What you need to do on those ridge/roof intersections is keep some roll lead in your truck and tap-out a nice thin piece of lead flashing at the valley peak for your counterflashing. Super slick and dead tight.
@RRBuildings2 жыл бұрын
Nice tip thanks
@fpoastro2 жыл бұрын
@@RRBuildings No problem. Lead flashing is hard to find here but a couple yards still stock it. Just a little 3"x3" piece at that valley peak and you can ditch the tube caulk. Super handy and you will find a million other places to use it. A 30"x30" sheet will last you dozens of jobs.

I would have thought for long term planning you would want Greg to think and be part of the planning process so you could train him to eventually start running his own crew so you could expand your business, and reap the rewards of a well trained, detailed oriented and loyal employee.

Covers that hole point you were talking about, and doesn't rely on caulk.

I'm putting a ridge cap on now with a standing seam system and it's the slotted z-closures that have foam in them. They recommend putting caulk at the end of each where it meats the seam as well as riveting to the z bar. I think the system you are using looks easier and would provide more ventilation.

I’m no metal roof expert but the few I have done I did not like the vented ridge cap detail you guys used in the video so I thought of away to get rid of it. I take the z bars and drill out three 1” holes on them and cut pieces of the regular corra ridge vent into strips to fit between the panels and then install the vented z bar pieces and you get a nice clean vented ridge cap. A little more work but I think the end product is worth it.

First question you don't turn the roof up at the top ( possibly due to the rollform process ) the infill strip that provides the Weather strip seal, does it fail? How long does it last? Second question the rivets is it two per pan? What size ? And do they fail with expansion and contraction? Third question im always looking for better grip shoe wise what do u use? Thx for the vid

Hi, I was watching your video on installing a vent stack on a standing seam roof. I think it could be done using a vent from “ lifetime roof vent” if a length of a panel can be done in two pieces. Drill a hole the size of the pipe in the lower panel and let it run a foot or so higher then the pipe, install the boot then put the upper piece of metal on cutting around the boot, keeping any rivets high on the lower panel.

I recently was given a tiny 1/3 sq standing seam hip roof project for a pump house. The hips were 4’ and the ridge was maybe 3’. Me being the only one with a tiny bit of metal roof experience was the chosen one for the project at work. The Bosses had very little input, and told me to watch you tube. Well the cap and ridge turned out like crap. I should have locked the hem into the z metal for one. My question is what do you do after all this metal piles up on the hip caps? To lock it in I would have to cut out some of the hems at the intersection. But you still have 2 layers of metal on each side the 3’ ridge has to go over. This gave it a beautiful smile effect. Plus all the zip screws made the metal oil can very bad. Do you have any videos on hip to ridge transition?
@thorvw4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle. Instead of riveting the ridge cap on. Why not rivet a cleat to the vented closure brackets so they you could clip the ridge cap onto the cleat. That would allow you to go fastenerless and not have to use those vented z flashings that don’t flow a high enough cfm.
@toddgardner62854 жыл бұрын
Question, you roll the bottom and clamp it, than put a fastener through the top to hold bracket your riveting cap too, how is the roof supposed to expand and contract? Will it just oblong the hole with screw at the top? Just curios? Lots of work, but it looks great.
