This video is all about building my new shop... RR Buildings World Headquarters. This is just the introduction and hopefully introduces you to the over all goal and design of the project.
There will be a ton of struggles and challenges and I encourage you to follow along or hit that subscribe button so you don't miss out. This will be the most epic build to date for sure. I have a ton planned!!

The hardest part of doing the shop/house like this is meeting energy code. It’s tough to seal the sills right and tough to do garage doors to meet code. It’s not undoable, it just takes a lot of extra care that many contractors aren’t capable of. One thing I’ve seen that has been a problem too is garage/dwelling separation. I’ve looked at a few designs where bedrooms basically open to the shop area, meaning there was only a door between, and without a listed rating, it’s not a legal separation. All of these issues are simple to correct with the proper forethought, careful construction, and a good solid planning process. Kyle did it well on the last build doing a mid build blower test. Especially on post frame where there are a lot more opportunities for leakage, it’s a great idea to do this test before it’s too late. Again, not saying none of this is impossible, I just think post frame takes a touch more care to ensure energy code and leakage. Easily done by taking the effort though. Kinda wish I did a post frame house build.

The roof, there is nothing better than a complex, multi pitched roof layout. It's like adding a pergola or a level to a simple flat deck. It gives the shoebox its character 🔥

Kyle, I do live through what you are building. I live in a neighborhood and cannot have a building like you will have. Five years ago I was lucky enough to buy a 20 x 55 storage condo for my boats and Waverunners which is my version of an upscale storage building. I am very excited for this build. Sorry your losing space from your old shop but I bet when you sat back and looked at it you had a lot of wasted space at the old place. I can't wait for how you store things at this shop. I am picturing a vertical system of storage goes up and down so you can just call up the shelf you need and it shows up at the perfect height in front of you haha

I loveto watch every build. I learn so much each time. Looking forward to seing all you do for the Headquarters. Been wondering for sometime what pants with the phone pocket is. Looks more dreasy than a carhart pant and dose the shirts good to wick away sweet or get to hot. Can you offerup the makers of both. Thanks JIM. I live in a post frame building 40 x 70 shop and mesonine 16 foot sides walls. Wi9th a 40 x 40 addition living quarters with 10 foot side walls. Love it.

The location.. Looks like a residential area. Sp what is or what was the reason for that location and how does the shop/ business fit in that location?

That sucks you have restrictions. In my county in Ohio a guy built a 3 story with 5 story spire room for like a look out. One person's shop is 4500 square feet and one half is 2 story.

I'm very interested in attempting to build my own post frame shop at some point. I'm curious, what building codes drive the requirements for framing a post frame shop? I'm in Texas so we follow IRC for residential builds, but it mainly has the guidelines outlined for your traditional '16" OC' type framing. Are there resources out there that define, for example, post/girt/purlin spacing? Or can this be inferred from IRC somehow? Thank you in advance for your response.

Do all of your projects have engineered blueprints? We build shops, barns, sheds etc and very rarely do we use any official plans Metal buildings though, & they go up pretty easy and are pretty standard

This is going to be one epic build! Really looking forward to the series! Quick question on my build with Paul (Mr. PostFrame), we just installed the frost protection and I wasn't sure if I should continue the protection under the two 16' garage doors? Would you recommend adding it or should I be OK to skip it? I live in central Iowa (Des Moines) and the floor will be heated. (60x120x18). Take care and don't work to hard!
