7, 8, and 9 are my favorites in the series. 8 is a bit complicated but once you get your mind around the junction system it is pretty easy build your characters. The summons are easily some of the best in the series and paying attention to what skills your teaching your gf can get you a ridiculously powerful team, particularly if you get the extra stat boost skills that improve your stats further with every level up.

This was a great video analysis, and commentary on two very great games; but especially my personal favorite- Final Fantasy IX. Both games give me some of the best, and warmest memories, but IX will especially have a special place in my heart. It was my first Final Fantasy, and I'm glad I played it first. The PS1 era was the golden era of the franchise, and the one that is most remembered fondly. Also, I love the way you ended this video. Absolutely perfect.

While I think Final Fantasy X is a great game on its own, I think the vast consensus agree that the game and its sequel only began the difficult years that Square had upon them after their releases. Not saying their bad, but some of the decisions they made were questionable that brought about underwhelming results in the end. I still like it for what it is, but some things could have been done to make it a better game. I'd say it suffered the same fate as Donkey Kong 64 after its release.

Final Fantasy VIII is good if you want to just have fun and experience the story. However, if you plan on wanting to ace the game at 100%, then it does have a bit of a learning curve in multiple areas like Triple Triad, the Junction System, Guardian Forces, Weapon Creation, etc.

@RRPGReviews8 жыл бұрын
Truth be told, some of them are from Wikipedia as the information on certain things like development actually come from sources within the pages of those games. Not to mention, I even use Final Fantasy Wiki as a source of information because the sources provide the links to interviews and factual tidbits of the games, as well. Granted, not everything I say comes from the Wikipedia pages as I do write in my own words when working on the scripts. It's a long and tedious process, but it helps get the job done.

Scootch Magoo Anytime. Also, when I do the voiceovers for the scripts I work on, some parts are very hard to say because the wording doesn't sound right, so I make some adjustments where the process is much easier. That's why some parts of what I say sound dry in the delivery. To be more frank, this episode was hard for me to work on because the previous episode was probably the most fun and most passionate I was towards to seek perfection in Episode Five's delivery. This was probably the hardest to work on because I was having trouble trying to figure out what I could do to surpass the fifth episode, but I'm satisfied with the end result of this episodes, in general. It didn't surpass what I had hoped for since I set my sights to surpass every single episode, but I still thought it was a great one in its own right. Thanks for sharing your concern, and thanks for your support, too! ;)

I’m not much of a fan of FFVIII, but only because of some of the mechanics and system that Square decided to throw into the mix, one of those being “Draw. The other would be aspects of the “Junction” mechanic because it’s not very intuitive. Granted this is a PSOne JRPG, not many were very intuitive to begin with. Lol another would be the whole enemy scaling thing. Not that I don’t like a challenge, but if I just spent two hours running into battles so I can farm magic for my junction slots, and I’ve leveled 5 or 8 times I want that to show in later battles. Kinda like a reward from the game saying “Hey man I know you just spent 3 hours farming magic getting 99 of every spell in this area so you can customize your characters’ junctions to the maximum; so how about this, you’re going to be able to take this boss, bend it over the kitchen sink, and fuck it right in the ass.”

Sorry I'm late on watching, for somereason I didn't get the Notification for this Video. Anyway I appreciate that you mostly used PC footage for both FFVIII & FFIX, but I'm disappointed that you didn't use Texture filter for FFVIII and the Video is over an hour after I SPECIFICALLY said not to because my Browser can't handle Videos that are over an hour. You could've just gave FFVIII & FFIX their own Episodes.
@RRPGReviews8 жыл бұрын
I don't like the texture filter for FFVIII as it made the smooth, blocky texture of the characters look extremely awful. Also, I said that whatever video I do where it is over an hour in length that I'll split them up in multiple parts after they have been up for over 6 months, so I don't know why you are being awfully cranky just because whatever you use can't let you view videos for over an hour. This is the last episode where two, separate games in the series are covered for a single episode as the rest of the games are mostly by themselves, going forward. Any game that has a sequel, companion piece, etc. is going to be covered in that same episode as the last video with FFVII and its Compilation were all in at once. Lastly, the retrospective I am doing is done by my own rules and how I see fit, so saying that what specific games should have their own episodes is none of your concern. I appreciate you enjoying the retrospective for what it is, by far, but anything that I do and what I plan are based on my decision and my decision, alone. I'm sorry that any of my videos that are over in hour in length can't be covered with whatever browser you are using, but tough decisions had to be made to ensure the quality of my episodes because I do not like the idea of making separate episodes for separate games as that would bring about quantity instead of quality. That is just how it is when I work on my content, and I don't appreciate you telling me what to do just because you can't even use something else that can make videos on KZbin go past the hour mark as that is sort of petty. Like I said, I appreciate your support on the work I do and put into this retrospective, but if you can't respect the fact of what decisions I made in order to make the episodes go in the direction I perceive them, then tough titty. That is all.

I think FFVIII could have been GREAT, but....the junction system and having to draw spells SUCKED. I know you can increase HP to insane levels by junctioning tents....but that just means it was poorly designed. I dug the story at first, liked the look, the music was fine. As with a lot of JRPGs, its like they spend years on the first 20 hours of the game, and then a week on the last ten hours. They cop-out and just give you tons of dialogue trying to explain plot holes and so much that matters not. A few tweaks though, some changes to the story and battle/junction system and it could be great.

I don't understand why so many people prefer 9 over 8 today. The combat and options in 9 are so limited. Seems people only like the game for its light hearted demeanor, setting, and characters.
@jimmykrabklaw12165 жыл бұрын
I like them both a lot. 9 is a lot easier to wrap your head around. Personally i prefer 8 but it is more complicated, but once you wrap your mind around how the junction system works and how the GFs learn abilities you get way more control over how your characters evolve. Both games stories have decent balance of light and dark tones. 8 certainly has a more introspective protagonist who starts out cold and distant, which i can see why that may turn some people off.
@th3azscorpio5 жыл бұрын
NineTails FF9 was just an overall better story; with likable, more developed, and relatable characters. Each of the characters get welly developed. All of the characters serve a distinct purpose, challenges, and all build a personal relationship with the protagonist. The story is much better written; with all the events wrapping up nicely. While I'll always love VIII- mostly for nostalgia reasons, it wasn't really a great game from neither a story, nor a gameplay standpoint. The characters were very bland, and mostly just acted for the sake of the plot. The antagonist were equally bland, and lacked a general overall motive. The whole love story between Squall and Rinoa was very forced, and felt awkward. The plot was weird, confusing, and just overall didn't have weight. FFVIII however did have an amazing soundtrack, great graphics, and really amazing character designs. I personally didn't mind the junction system. I thought it was a unique take on the battle system.
@mcihay2465 жыл бұрын
@@th3azscorpio Impressive analysis. Both good and bad points that you've shared regarding FFVIII. I will mention however that IX isn't perfect. Tetra Master is harder to understand, and is required to partake in the main plot which is also a problem. Some character arcs seem rushed also. Not including Zidane, Garnet, Vivi and Steiner. Another thing regarding Final Fantasy IX is that it's a fantasy. Whereas VII and VIII were bordering or an outright science fiction. Hence why IX exists.
@mcihay2465 жыл бұрын

@@mcihay246 While certain character arcs were rushed- such as my favorite, Freya; at least it was quality character development. Most of the characters received the necessary character development.
