“Some machines get angry” - 🤣 apparently you’ve met my machine! Thanks for the smile! Visions of pinwheels are swirling in my head!
@rsislandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
Right? Some machines are just grumpy for no reason. Some are workhorses. But some are temperamental. Which is why It doesn’t bother me when people name their machines. They do have personalities.

Reminds me of a windmill that you buy the little kids on the beach. Love the swirl! Thank you💕

Yes. They felt special on the beach but plain anywhere else. Weird how we attach things to places like that.

Love the swirl on the blue fabric and the background looks like tree trunks! Very interesting block and looks difficult until you demonstrated it! Neat

The swirling of a pinwheel reminds me of childhood. Reminds me of parades and carnivals!!! Fun!

Reminds me of parades too. Sunshine, fire trucks all decorated and crazy clowns throwing candy.

Thanks for this video. This block might be fun on a baby activity quilt. I like that it looks as if it is swirling

It would be fun for a baby activity quilt. You could even use a silky or textured fabric for the pinwheel. That way the baby would have something silky to rub in their fingers. My kids loved that.

I don’t know that I’d want a quilt full of 3D pinwheel blocks but a pillow cover with smaller blocks would be cute.

I saw a tutorial on April Story channel (she got it from a free pattern linked below her tutorial) for making 19" blocks of these pinwheels (well, except they are not 3-D!). With such a large block, there is a lot of white, which also makes a secondary pinwheel block. I thought since there is so much white, it would be cool to put one of these 3-D pinwheels in each corner of the white blocks (on the inside corners of the block, not borders), but I haven't tried it yet. Still looking for just the right fabric.

Thanks Kathy. I’ll have to check It out. It sounds interesting. It would be fun to add some extra dimension to It.

I heard somewhere on KZbin that if you press your seams open, sometimes fibers from the batting can work their way through the opening so you can get slightly shaggy seams. Have you had any experience with that? See you later at 3.
@rsislandcrafts2 жыл бұрын
I do my best to never press my seams open. On some blocks It just can’t be avoided. If you press your seams open you expose the threads from your seams. While quilting if your needle hits one of those exposed threads It can pop. Then your seam becomes weak and can pull apart. If I have to press a seam open I try to only press open the last seams when you sew a block together. That way hopefully the open seam will be protected. 🤷♀️. At least that’s what my brain thinks. 🤣

Thanks. You answered my question. In fact, you answered more than I knew enough to ask.

Swirly movement…how many times did we swirl & twirl as kids?! Especially when we put on our new dresses!?!! ❤️
