I like to have a little thread catcher or trash container near me when I'm stitching. I found the directions (link in description of video) to these triangle thread catchers and I thought you guys might like to see how they are made. The ones you see in the video should be in my ArtFire shop this weekend. bit.ly/2yAOWiR

Thank you for sharing this video with us, I loved this little thread catcher. They are cute and will come handy next to the sewing machine. I always fine myself with a mess of thread on the floor, now I will have a place to put as I go along thank you again I will be looking on your web side for the pattern.

As always Robin your tutorials are so well done! I will make a couple of these! I travel with hand sewing projects (either in the car, Drs office, or visiting) this will be a handy place to keep my “garbage” LOL! You remind me of things I forgot like using pinking shears on curved edges, and leaving a larger seam allowance to turn over and sew by hand closed. Thinking that one made of valentines fabric would be cute as a mini candy dish for conversation hearts 💕 💕 gift.

Cindy Gehrke Thanks Cindy! They would be good for little candies. I didn’t think of that. They’re just the right size for one serving size lol. I have been on a mission to save my threads the ones you clip after finishing back-stitching on a seam because my machine asks that I extend the thread to the back of the machine when threading the bobbin through.. and on every seam to start so the bobbin does not snafu. It seemed so wasteful. So I had been just collecting these threads to make a pin cushion with thread as the filling along with whatever they use in the strawberry on top of the tomato traditional pin cushions which supposedly sharpen your needles and pins. This is a much easier container to put threads in and prettier as well. Thank you so much. I have also seen them used to contain wonder clips the ones you have holding open the flaps with. I have a tin box that does that for me. Though if I get addicted making these I may go to a larger size for that use and gift them to crafty friends. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVELY TUTORIAL. I appreciate the helpful hints and the detailed instruction in real time and showing us how to fix common mistakes for beginners. AWESOME
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I try to explain how to do things but i think it’s even more I important to show that a mistake isn’t the end of the project. Most things can be fixed with a little creativity. Wasting thread is so aggravating. I was actually grumbling about all the thread I wasted making thread catchers lol. I’ve been thinking about doing a series on pincushions. They’re fun to make and a great use of scraps. Some cross stickers like to buy those clear plastic Cristina’s ornaments. Then for an entire year they save their ORTS (old ratty threads) and fill the ornament. Write the year on It and you have a colorful reminder of all the projects you e worked on for the past year. I save a lot of things but I’m not a thread saver. I keep my clips in a plastic container that used to hold deli meat from Walmart. Lol. A little basket would be cuter but I need things with lids because I tend to knock things off the table or drop them all the time. Lol
@luannapierce2544
@luannapierce2544 6 жыл бұрын
LOLOL cool ornament idea.. I am currently working on heat packs made of fleece I would use the trimming of the 1/2 " seam to 1/4 " seam to fill ornament shells .. much more visible. LOLOLOL ANTI PILL fleece is so soft I was thinking of making a tooth fairy pillow and stuffing it with the fleece scraps for my grandbabies. OOOOOO did you see the pin cushion scrap bag That looked interesting and USEFUL. Do you think you might do a tutorial on that? Apparently The Masquerade did one but I have not seen it yet. I would still make the adorable ones you demo-ed for travel and they take up a lot less room as well being available to toss the clips into and not have it make so much noise as it does with my Tin container. Thank you for your thoughtful reply.. I do not think of myself as a thread saver ... I just hate to waste it and am conditioning myself to adhere to that ole New England maxim. USE IT UP, WEAR IT OUT> MAKE IT DO OR DO WITHOUT. Fits beautifully in upcycling and greening ones carbon footprint, or simply honoring mother earth. My grandma told me her grandma used to make one of her bushes a thread bush to help out the birds with nests... but then she used cotton thread, not sure how polyester cotton would work for the birds. THANK YOU AGAIN!! fun chat!

Luanna Pierce theres two things that sharpen your needles, sand or Walnut grinds? You get it in the pet aisle. And both are frugal and good ways. Sand is free if you live near the ocean and the Walnut stuff is a few dollars. I have mixed both cause i like them to weigh down. But also use some stuffing in the mixture it protects the walnuts grind from tearing through your fabric, i have heard it happens. I have not had that problem. 🌺

@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. If I used a sparkly plastic hook in this video than I’m not 100% sure of the size because there isn’t a size marked on this hook. Comparing It to my other hooks I would say It is other an I or a K. Any crochet hook that has a rounded tip will work nicely. You just don’t want the tip to be too small because you could accidentally pop it through the corner fabrics. I hope that helps.

Patsy Hand I appreciate that. I’ve tried making them shorter but my subscribers prefer all the extra tips and tricks. They like the feeling that they are right in the craft-room with me spending the afternoon sewing and chatting. Some people fast forward to the parts they need and others find a different tutorial. That’s one of the amazing things about KZbin. There are plenty of creators so that everyone can find the one that works for them. Happy Crafting!!

Patsy Hand it is a little long winded but great hints and ideas for a beginner. I just go forward over the bits I already understand. Thanks Robyn

I completely understand. Thank you for your constructive criticism. I’ve tried making videos with less talking but my subscribers prefer the longer videos where I show each step and point out any difficult areas and how to fix any mistakes. Many subscribers are beginners who appreciate the extra details. Those who are experienced sewists know that they can always fast forward the video and skip to the parts they need.

Could have saved the fabric if folded wisely. Now lots of fabric gone to waste

Mini S If I fiddled with It I may have found a way to lay It out differently. It is easier for fabric placement to just lay It flat and trace the triangle. Cutting triangles tends to create a bit of waste fabric. I don’t always consider the pieces cut off as waste though. If the leftover bits of fabric are large than 2” they can be used in a variety of projects. Anything smaller or oddly shaped can be used for crumb blocks. Thanks for watching!

I’m sorry. Did you mean I have too many subscribers for you to be one? Or did I mention It too many times? I don’t mention It in every video but It is important to let any new visitors know that I have new videos coming out twice a week.
