r/AmITheA**hole In today's episode, a young mother tragically lost her husband and one of her young children in a car accident, leaving her with just one surviving child. During the funeral, OP's sister-in-law decides to excitedly announce to the world that she's pregnant. She even comes up to the grieving widow and says that she hopes that she doesn't have to go through what the widow went through. OP the entitled woman out of the funeral for being so incredibly disrespectful. Is he the butthole in this situation?

Punish the victim, spare the bully, or give both of them mediocre punishments (or sometimes major) and make the bullying get far worse than ever before. I may be wrong but I think the mother of the birthday boy is kinda of butthole: if OP really needs to leave she could just take James to his house (yes, it's not hers responsibility but you can either do that or take the kid with them to the family party) and after that talked to the parents, but not inviting your kid's friend just because of that?! I don't care about James's mother, but think about James! His friends went to party that he wasn't invited because the two mothers couldn't think beyond their inconvenience. So yeah, both of mothers are buttholes. Imagine she telling her son: oh darling, you can't invite your friend because mommy is mad with his mommy * insert Karen voice *. (But I would bet money that she lied to her kid saying that James couldn't make it). And the next day in school, James and the others boys discovered that he wasn't invited, but they don't know the reason. And each mother can give her side, putting their kids in a very problematic position. I mean, OP could made the mother signed a contract, could take James with them, could take James to his house (or talked to the other parents to take him)... Op didn't want James in her house, that's the reason.

The first story: if the step sister was being expelled for her bullying, then the behaviour extends much further the OP was letting on, a school doesn't just expel kids for writing hurtful notes, which leads to thinking that the bullying potentially extended to physical abuse, which would easily lead to a no warnings immediate expulsion. Even without the full details and just the knowledge of the consequences it's clear the step sister deserved it. In fact, her other step siblings were worried; why? To her I was weak and needed to learn to defend myself, and then years later I finally snapped and kind if blacked out. I am not sure how it happened given my mind was kind of gone, but I beat the crap out of all my bullies with the head one having a broken arm and leg, 2 black swollen eyes, and his nose broken. I got expelled for defending myself against my bullies and yet they never got in trouble for hurting me because they apparently 'never took it too far like I did'... thank god the next school I went to was far better. Hell I helped a kid who was being bullied at the next school since the news that I had been expelled because of what I did to my past bullies went around the school. my parents had some stupid ideas about what would "help me". Also, they trusted the school more than they trusted me. The school did not care. They were siding with bullies because there were more of them, and it was easier to side with gang of deliquents than with one shy girl. But my parents believed the school staff. I begged them to send me to another school. They refused because they trusted the school staff too much. I developed mental health problems that I have to this day. Last time I spoke with my mother she said something about public transport being more dangerous than the school bus. "Something may have happened." Something much worse was happening every single day, and she knew it. She did not care. And how come the public transport became so much safer once I went to highscholl that had no busses? The school was farder away than the one they refused to send me to. What happened during that summer between eight and ninth grade?

The pitch of the violin can cause headaches. Even good playing. I used to play viola and sometimes the violins just hurt my head. NOT because they were bad, but the pitch. Then again, I have ASD. That STILL wouldn’t make me complain. And my headaches were with the scrolls pretty much against my temple for an hour or 2. So close proximity.

Not just a properly-trained violinist, but one who plays in an orchestra, which means that the violin will be of good quality, not the usual shit that people on a budget buy when they're learning to play. It would have exceptionally good tone. Good violinist, good violin; where's the problem here? Clearly in her sister's head, that's where.

I love the violin, and this sister was a horrible person, but my guess would be she couldn't handle how much playing there was, or how loud it was, or the pitch of the playing. Especially since its probably not like listening to a concert. They're doing scales backwards and forwards, and I can imagine they might play the small same segment of a piece over and over sometimes to get it just right. Sometimes it would be them just playing a song through, which seems like it would be nice to listen to. But, for some people, the constant audio stimulation would be obnoxious and exhausting. But if that's the case, the person who is suffering should say 'thanks for giving me a place to stay, i'm going to be moving out." not "give up your livelihood so I can be comfortable."

That first story hits home for me. I was bullied so much that other kids told their parents. A few got together to confront the school because I was being punished for retaliating, I was never violent I would get mad and yell at other kids. The school covered it up and never did anything basically told them to fuck off. I found all this out like a decade later when one of the parents told my mom this story. since I lived in a small town I grew up with the same kids so the bullying never stopped up until I graduated high school and left town. It screwed me up for years and gave me huge problems with depression and trust issues.

For the woman with the cancelled wedding venue: Give everyone involved with the venue a password that needs to be confirmed to change anything in the wedding. This password needs to be with the people you’re booking with, the wedding planner (if you have one), and anyone else that control what happens with the wedding. That stepsister is going to try and cancel the venue again, so you need to protect it. You also need to disinvite her to the wedding. The dad seems great, but if he doesn’t punish the stepsister, you might want to disinvite him and not tell him the password. He’s either a victim, or an enabler, and either way, your password is not safe in his hands. Definitely keep the password between you and your fiancé only, or your stepsister could ruin your wedding. And if she finds a way to do it again, sue her or do whatever you need to to keep her out of your lives. She’s toxic and crazy, and you need to cut her out of your life.

My older brother was handling all of Dad's funeral arrangements- he even went late on mortgage payments to fund it because Dad lost most of his veterans' funeral coverage. In comes Dad's Cousin. She's a shit stirring B* and she went behind my brother's back at the funeral home to change EVERYTHING. Brother had the Army Honors scheduled to be done at the grave, B*Cousin had them changed to inside the Chapel in the Funeral Home. Brother had asked for closed casket during the service. B* Cousin had it open casket. She convinced him to let her get a pastor and said she'd get "singers" to sing. B*Cousin got 2 tone deaf old women and herself to sing (FYI, I am a trained singer and could have sung for my Dad's funeral as I had my Mom's, but was told no). The only thing she did right was get a good pastor. After the funeral, B*Cousin started telling everyone that she 100% did EVERYTHING. That SHE was the one who went broke, that she even did all the food at the Wake (she ordered from a grocery store, and I helped pay that!). Worse, she found out that Dad left my Brother some money, not enough to fully repay the costs but enough to help him-- The Cousin stated hounding him for that money!! She's an attention stealing old fart. I don't like talking to her, am avoiding her entirely. And no, I don't feel like a butthole.

Omg what a b**ch, I'm so very sorry for your loss but I'm even more sorry your cousin did all of that putting you and your poor brother through all that unnecessary stress and upset. If it was me and she was bragging to everyone she was the one who had organised everything and she was responsible for everything and how she was paying I'd have said in front of everyone as a announcement, ok everyone I'd like to say a huge thank to my cousin who as you all know since she's telling everyone she's the one who did everything and is paying for my dad's funeral I want her and all of you to know I'm so very grateful that your offering to do this as it means so much to us that you care so much for us and dad, so here is the bill since you are telling everyone your paying I know how important it is to you to make sure everyone knows about all your good deeds and I'd hate to see you miss out on all that praise . I'd love to have seen her reaction to that lol maybe I'm evil but what she did was very disrespectful to your brother you and your dad. Again I'm sorry for your loss andvi hope you and your family are doing OK

@@annied1827 Part of me wishes I'd done something similar, but I believe she'll get her 'reward' when she's got to explain herself to God someday. Until then, I'm fine having her number blocked. I DID see a FB message she sent me last month going "Why aren't you replying to my messages and calls?!" Ask my bro why, cuz.

The violin player story: she could have just gotten noise cancelling headphones, earplugs, ear protectors (like what someone might wear at a gun range), or made DIY soundproofing panels with towels from Goodwill... like she didn't even have to accept the violin playing to live there, she could have found a way to not hear it, but she just had to complain instead.

If you don’t have a good relationship with the bully (step-sister in this case) talking tjem out of bullying is literally just a waste of time. OP did right by informing Mia’s parents. I’m glad her parents actually cared.

There was a documentary of a woman who had 3 kids and 2 of them died in the army. The part that made me tear up was when she said "I come a lot to visit them in the rain to make sure they aren't cold". I felt so bad for the woman who lost 2 of her kids and here husband and for some piece of garbage to try to steal the attention and show off at a time like this I was gobsmacked about how garbage someone can be.

I was bullied until I went to college, and let me tell you, it almost killed me. If I were the dad in that situation, I'd be more upset that my stepchild was bullying other people than that my child reported it. I'd tell my kid how proud I was that they did the right thing by reporting it.

Bullying is real and so is cyberbullying, because I'll never forgive people who bully the victims. Also my aunt was bullied as well and it happened back in the 1980's when my aunt was in High School, because also my mom reported two girls who were got drinking alcohol on the bus to the principal. Plus I love my mom and I still consider her as a hero.
