Just a quick note - the evidence in the video was enough to claim Twilight Ash's bounty for the Mysterious perk, so it's no longer available. I've also had it confirmed from a Jagex source after the video was published that the theory in the video was right - the perk does absolutely nothing but tell you something mysterious has happened.

The moment I read those messages from Shauny I was convinced on Will's theory... but precisely because of a point he oddly failed to make -- Earlier in the video, at 1:41 to be exact, the J-Mod in the messages on the right side of the screen says of Moltare, the Mysterious Perk's designer, "he loves to troll." Shauny's message, "Imagine making a perk that [secretly] does nothing," "Imagine how pissed everyone would be," within THAT context? That Moltare "loves" to troll -- Coming from one of his coworkers and collaborators on the Mysterious Perk? ...Yeah I'm sold on the only effect it has being the chatbox message hahaha

Thanks for making the videoand including me in video!!!! still a mystery but I enjoyed the fact you took it into flash powder factory. Really interesting video! An impressive amount of effort to solve one of the game's longest held secrets. Gotta admit, you have me convinced on the effect just being a chat message (until it changes, which is apparently a thing). Tt would be a very Jagex thing to have the "something" which the Mysterious perk does, refer to the chat message and nothing else. Fits right into their style of humor, a lot of which is based in misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and subverting expectations (the slug pillar comes to mind). Or maybe, the real effect of the Mysterious perk was the friends we made along the way. Also: 1:14 Ayy! Also also: Arrays start at 0.

What got me 100% convinced was Shaunys response. He has, over time, rejected theories on social media.... except mine. Rowley also basically told me, as shown in the video, that Jagex tends to add in red herrings. :P

@@rswillmissit Obv none of us know Shauny IRL so whatever I say take it with a grain of salt But he strikes me as possibly the only J-Mod who, like, actually actively wants to tell us, but knows he can't. Or at least the one that MOST wants to tell us. He's full of love in general, more specifically loves the player base, and further his whole schtick is communication. I mean it was his job while at Jagex and even now he continues in the role with his interviews of other J-Mods and former J-Mods and whatnot. He strikes me as one of those people who loves so strongly that when there's a thing he can or could do to express that love and give happiness to someone he loves or a group he loves, he desperately wants to, even though there's situations (like here) where he can't. So, as is human nature... he slips up the teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeensiest bit. And "Imagine making a perk that does nothing. Imagine how pissed everyone would be" happens. 😅😂 If you see this, I promise that I love you Shauny! ❤️

i feel what it does is when you get that message "You feel something Mysterious take effect." its basically a rare drop (possibly a very rare drop) but not actually getting something from the drop table. This makes the most sense to me. it fills the answer of Not helping End-game players, and that its neutral not a negative perk. if this is true, ill give Jagex credit. It shows you that you could of gotten an rare-drop item, buut instead you get a message instead..

Honestly to me the "it's a mystery." Is the disappointing answer. They could come out and be like oh it changes the coloration of the game by 0.001% and i would go "oh pretty cool." I guess to me the concept of a mystery I will never find out is a mystery I'll never bother with. Like whats in the Fnaf box? What i will never know then I have literally no reason to care about it. Hell I didn't even remember about that box until this video. And I'm probably going to forget about both the box and the perk in about 5 minutes.

I think, mods used it to test perk activation percentages, named it mysterious because what else could they call it, it used to print the amount of times the perk triggered after x amount of rolls. Or it is mysterious, so even the mods doesn't know what it does!

I wish Jagex would just reveal it. If it's changing, they could just reveal one thing it does in the rotation. They've hyped it up for too long- the joke and mystery aren't funny or fun respectively anymore. At this point, it's an annoying game of "Guess what? and when you reply "What?" they go "Nuh uh, you have to guess!"

Situationally positive... it might change something that resets on logout/login. Could it be changing your PID? I know your PID automatically changes on certain intervals so the code is there to change it. Edit: After a little research apparently PID changes every tick in RS3 so there goes that idea.

Checking the wiki, I see one key info wasn't added to it, and I don't want to dig for the tweet now: before Archaeology release, there was a list of perks that will work with it, and Mysterious was included.

What if the effect is something as simple as every time you equip the item with the perk, it rerolls the number. If you managed to hit the number, you see if any Jmods are hidden in your area, or any JMod stand-ins like hidden NPCs.

Understandably the channel at this point is a business or sidegig at the very least but there is rarely a time where someone appreciates intentional deception from a business or a social figure that'll just alienate people who may otherwise stick around as everything from here onwards can be expected to be deceptive. Now it just looks like: "hi guys, told the effect is uncovered, btw heres a 15min video with ads that does not actually reveal anything, thanks for the ad revenue tho" Short-term clickbait cannot be worth it for long-term growth.

The elite skill Invention allows players to augment their t70+ equipment, specifically, chest, legs, and 2h/dual wield weapons. When items are augmented they can have 1 or 2 gizmos installed. The gizmos can be filled with materials gathered from destroying items. When you fill a gizmo with materials, that generates perks. There are troll perks which can make you deal less damage or even disable auto retaliate. But perk optimization is a huge part of the RS3 experience. It increases skilling xp for tools. Weapons deal more damage and armour can reduce i took damage. Invention is honestly the best part about rs3 IMO.
