I remember this very well. I got given a yellow p hat from a friend who got cracked and feared his account would be banned. I already had a real red and green p hat on the same account. I never got banned for it. Gave them all away along with a few santa hats and mask sets when I quit in 2004 for free, I could have paid off my house if I sold them on the black market today lol.

@Gaming Legend69 since jagex couldnt ban the guys with 1 or a couple, im assuming "enough" were added to peoples accounts that even after all this time of bans/quiters/baby troll feeding/and loss or dropped in wildy/graveyard, that there are as many as there are (aka rare as heck) because of so many extras being injected into the ecconomy. If it didnt happen i bet there would be only 100 or so total in rhe world. Having them keepsaked means even less to trade too.

@Gaming Legend69 Basically from what I gather, the program was "injecting" the item ID code of whatever item, and since the server had no failsafe when the trade said give Party Hat to player, it assumed the item was "removed" from the other trade window and spawned the item to the recipient. As the video mentioned, it wasn't duping. It was straight up wishing them into existence.

After duping a year or so later there was also a bug on rsc where you could enter in trade pretending to give i.e. 10 r2h for a santa and once trade windows were there for last confirm you could open up bank account via hexeditor, deposit 9x r2h and eventually get 1 santa for 1 r2h, even thought confirmation window was still saying you are trading 10xr2h for 1 santa.. same with "trading" 10 santas for a phat and the rest..

I think that the big oversight is that it was bringing discontinued items, not just crackers and phats, but Santa's and H'ween masks into game. I bet Jagex overlooked big hoards of Santa hats because they were a newer rare at that time

I think so too. The bug gaining the reputation as a "partyhat" bug is very misleading. Crackers and pinks were only made until they no longer had value... Then they worked down the chain to find the next expensive item.
