Snappy review - up to your usual high standards. I moved from a Tesla Model Y Performance to an EX30 Twin Motor Ultra. I’m very happy with the car. The software needs to mature a little but the general finish and mechanicals are good. The performance is there if you need it but most of the time the car rolls along nicely. Coming from a Tesla, I’d like to see stronger regenerative braking which will also help improve the range.

Good car, but we ended up going for a model 3 long range rear wheel drive (end 2023 reg) And very happy with the range currently at an average of 5.5mikes/kwh. The Volvo was tempting but the model 3 efficiency cannot be ignored. Great review Richard.

I have one of these as my company car - I like a lot about it, the performance is incredible, nearly Tesla feeling which is good fun. However it has a lot of weaknesses especially vs Tesla (my other car is a Tesla Model Y and I used to have a 2019 M3P). The efficiency is really quite bad - I struggle to get over 3.3 mi/kwh even on a warm day on longer journeys, where my 2019 M3P would have got easily over 3.7 and that has more boot and interior space + bigger battery. The software is in need of work, but the good news is that in 3 months I've had a few OTA updates with some good fixes Lots to like but lots to find mega frustrating

As you know I have its sister car the Smart #1 Brabus. It cost me £43,450 however it has a ton more kit like an electric roof blind, matrix led headlights, centre armrest in the rear. More importantly a drivers display & a heads up display. 13 speakers beat stereo with subwoofer. Without checking I think it’s a bit longer with more room in the back & a ski hatch. I’ve done 6,000 miles and only drive in Brabus mode hence only get 3m/kWh or 200 miles of range in all conditions from -5 to 25 degrees. @@KevinLaffey hi, I have the #1 I don’t know about the #3 but assume it’s the same. There’s nothing wrong with the #1 infotainment/software unlike the EX30 which is terrible. I am waiting for the latest OTA update which is late, it gives more features like V2L and can switch Avatars from the fox 🦊to the Cheetah 🐆 found in the #3. I’m no expert on sound systems but I’m happy with the quality in mine. Can you not get a test drive to make 💯 % certain before you buy? I tried a few including the MG4 XPower which is just as quick but nowhere near the quality or the equipment level that’s why it’s £7k cheaper than my Brabus and it shows. Although this is an easy car to drive it does have a fair amount of complex systems, such as the auto-brake function which in my opinion are poorly explained in the drivers manual. I think that with all this new safety tech coming online manufactures really need to up their game when handing over to new customers, I'm sure there are great number of drivers that don't fully understand how these functions work or even if they are working correctly, myself included.

Excellent review Richard, I’ll soon be looking for another car to replace the wife’s and this is definitely on the short list (along with a Hyundai Tucson to name another). I’m on my second Tesla (M3 performance now MY performance) and unless we see some worthwhile facelifts I think I could be changing brand as many others are starting to catch up. However, one thing I’m always interested in, that isn’t really covered by most online reviewers, is the phone app connectivity. As you know, Tesla will take some beating and whilst I don’t typically require all the features. For example I find live view (in sentry mode) a nice to have but not essential, however, I wouldn’t want to be without cabin preheat/defrost along with the ability to start/stop charging and adjust charge limit from the phone. 1st world problems I know, but once you’ve had them you wouldn’t want to be without them! Could you perhaps provide some content for people in a similar situation to me, who perhaps want to deviate to other brands (just for some variety!) without losing out too much to unmatched tech. Thanks in advance.

I really don't understand the obsession with "one pedal driving", I want the car to coast when I lift off, I have no difficulty using the other pedal for slowing down.
@the_break_down5 күн бұрын
It's so you can brake without using your brakes. It charges the car and also saves your pads.
@johnafish4 күн бұрын
@@the_break_down Yeah, many EV drivers misunderstand the technology as you do, you don't need to use one-pedal in order to benefit fully from regenerative braking. On any modern EV (with one pedal driving turned OFF) when you press the brake pedal you still get regenerative braking, you can then modulate the 'charging-power' of that regen with the brake pedal through its entire available range (feels just like normal braking), the friction brakes are only added to the mix (wasting energy) if you brake so hard that the regen system cannot absorb all of the energy (and that happens if one-pedal is turned on too). For ANY deceleration event the car ALWAYS tries to recover as much energy as it can regardless of the mode of operation, but with one-pedal you just control it differently & in my opinion it's not better, just different, basically a novelty. I want to be able to coast in many situations, lifting off without significant braking effect, it's a vital part of driving safely (I don't want my brake lights coming on on the highway every time I lift off - it's dangerous), so one-pedal is unsuitable for me. www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a42268449/one-pedal-driving-isnt-necessarily-the-most-efficient-way-of-driving-an-ev/

Has anyone encountered a strange bug with the car where the radio/DAB cuts out under braking? Other half picked hers up yesterday and it was impressive on first drive (I had a little play around with it, straight into Performance mode...) but later on that day she encountered the aforementioned bug. Seems unusual and for her 1 day old car something of a niggle/annoyance that it seems might take more than a software update to sort out. It seems more of a design issue requiring a recall. Other than that, all cars seem to come with the bings and bongs that tell you to behave/slow down/stay in lane/don't drive too close etc. Hers told me off for laughing when I nailed the throttle in P mode, (though more likely - presumably - for having one hand on the wheel I'm guessing). My first time driving an electric, first time for years in an auto and I'm sold. I'm probably going to go for the Smart #3 Brabus because of the head up display and sportier looks but it's the same car underneath as this one. Told them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and got my money back. My review, A Volvo designed by a Chinaman, its true, watch the video! If Volvo want to keep any sort of reputation, go back to making things functional, forget the fast car gimmick and improve the range and driving experience. I went out and bought a new TOTR XC40 Twin EV for the same price, very happy, a proper Volvo. @@JassoLama also Tesla is far more efficient, better charging infrastructure. If you actually like to use your car for trips, trip planner on Tesla is much more accurate, it calculates your range based on weather, wind, terrain, etc vs other guys just use weather to calculate your range on arrival. Tesla model 3 for example has much better suspension, double wishbone and multi link, similar to what you find on high end bmws and Porsche’s vs ex30 which uses McPherson in front, less sophisticated.

Penny pinching about the cheapest way to charge an EV, and yet driving around two tonnes of fancy EV around for 12+ years all on my electricity bill. doesn't seem like the brightest idea. EVs should be as inexpensive to build and as light as possible. Heavy EVs are just not environmentally friendly, which is the whole point remember

They screwed my VOLVO C40 by removing that ability with an OTA update, AND TOLD NO ONE THEY'D DONE IT !!. One day your stick worked the next it didn't ! Even dealers weren't told ! You had to download AudioWaggon software to play your own music AND DEALERS DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT you had to find it for yourself !

@o0alias0o3 ай бұрын
Because tesla 0-60 is crazy. Tesla almost always has high insurance. Any other electric car is usually much cheaper. However insurance is very complex and wildly vary due to many factors as you know so there usually isn’t a definitive answer. Compare cars of similar age, specs, equipment and price to get a better comparison

Tesla's we get in Europe are made in China too, but people say it's an American car. Same thing really. The car market is global. They simply do not have the capacity to produce these in their Swedish factory, that is reserved for models like XC90, V90 and such. This will be made in their factory in Belgium next year though, not that it matters really.
