In my past 12 years of school I have learned to calculate the mass of NH4OH (Ammonium Hydroxide) leaving a balloon as the balloon is shrinking, yet I have not learned how to pay taxes or build an annuity or even save up my money through a bank to pay my bills. Good job America, what a wonderful educational system this place has, teach us nothing young so we lose all our money is the future! Referring to 11:45.

For those fellow Canadian who (like myself) have been anxiously awaiting the day that NatureBox shipped to Canada, know that their Canadian 'store' is currently in beta. That means you can't get the 50% discount on your order yet. You can't customize the 5 things in your box either, but they ship you a different combination every month, which is cool. Supposedly, they'll have a fully-functional Canadian store by the Fall of 2014, so that's cool!

Moving hassles are always fantastic thing to deal with, I just recently moved to Austin, it took me 4 days to pack everything and then when the movers came, there was still things that needed to be packed, it took me 3 days to drive from southern California to Austin and then it took a week for movers to deliver my things to my new house. When they delivered my stuff, boxes were the wrong way up, boxes were missing, fine china was broken, and boxes were broken into and hundreds of dollars of games were stolen, they even stole my grandmother's urn.

Most Canada was actually originally a Dutch colony, with a small exception in what we now call Québec, which was French. If I were a guessing man, and, occasionally, I am, I would say that the Dutch yielded the territory to the British in some Trade or War treaty. This information provided by an 15-year old Austinite without using the Internet. EDIT: Apparently, what we now call Québec was originally New France. This blurb found on Wikipedia, but only by knowing about the French and Indian war previously.

I live in Montana where the German exchange student was shot, and Burnie missed a big part of the story. The German kid had previously broken into the guys house, so naturally he was fed up. That was when he baited him in, after the 3rd or 4th time he had been stolen from. I'm not defending the guy, but it is legal here to defend your property when someone has violent or criminal intentions.

I had an economics class that covered interest and such, but they neglected to go over useful and commonly used terms and concepts. To be fare it was economics, not personal finance, but there shouldn't be a reason kids can graduate without even knowing what taxes are.

This is why I enjoy working with Primerica. Here in Canada finances isnt taught, no one learns about money! Primerica helped me understand the financial world, how the Rule of 72 worked in my favor what kind of insurance and investments are not only available but are in my best interest. It goes beyond simply not knowing as well, its also about not asking questions. Like accepting term life insurance on the car you bought for 40$ a month as opposed to simply increasing your personal term insurance. No one asks why, they are told to sign the dotted line!

I lived on a leather couch for four months while I was on a wait list for an apartment. I COMPLETELY agree with Burnie on this one, that was the shittiest thing to sleep on.

Burnie has SUCH a good point. I just got into college and I have no idea how to deal with finances other than on a very basic level. No one teaches you that crap

I can't speak for the majority of places, but my high school recently made a Personal Finance class that was mandatory for graduation. It's dumb that this class is so new (probably added in the last 5 years give or take) but it's a start

Man you guys don't have any right to criticize Barbara's history knowledge. The war that gave NA to Britain was the seven years war or the French Indian War which is taught in most middle AND high schools. And the outcome was a major factor in starting the American Revolution.

we have an economics class that we take in high school that's basically a sort of broadened version of personal finance, but i do agree that there should be a class focused on the specifics of developing yourself financially.

At my high school we took basic math until grade 9. Then, depending on the grade you got in basic math, you would either go into Principles of Math or Math Essentials. Principles was for the higher grade kids and Essentials for lower. Algebra and Geometry you learned in Principles, but taxes, calculating interest rates, learning to insure a vehicle, etc. you learned in Essentials.
