I find it really fascinating the way the narrator does 'dan-tay' pronunciation in the French way, while speaking as Mercedes does 'dan-tez', in Spanish accent. It's cool to see the detail in the voicework; really great throughout.

I find the accents needless and distracting. Yes, it is a French book set largely in France but I don't see what is added to it by deploying accents like that. They characters are speaking their native language, why would they have a weird accent? Even stranger when they do say actual French words such as 'Palace de justice'. You may feel other audiobooks are better made, but that doesn't make it pointing out that they are using an Italian accent for an Iberian one an act of pedantry.

@@MrHarrystank T-cunt me old chum, you're in the wrong. Clarke's pathetic attempts at accents throw the listener off completely. He's effectively mocking the characters. Can't imagine the more pathetic attempt at reading this novel than this. I'd take any monotone zombie recording any day.

@@charleshowie2074 My thoughts exactly. It's so needless and apparent it becomes mocking. I hate when they do that in whether it's in recorded books or in films. Imagine this Clarke bloke butchering a Shakespeare play, I would dread to hear his attempt at Hamlet's Danish accent!

That's a pretty naive thing to say... So anything that isn't solid, cold, hard truth isn't possible to be learnt from? First of all you're not exactly exhibiting vast knowledge on the subject by comparing Dumas to King... Second of all, has mankind showing it's ugly face for others to see in books like 'To kill a mockingbird' not affected western cultural fabric? Have great novels not taught us how to deal with depression, taught us to question general consensus etc... I think great writers have been esteemed through the ages for a reason. If they just wrote a story that can't be learnt from, because it's not 'a science book', they would have no place in history. As it happens they have a huge place in history. @hop Scotch

It's funny how people will stand on the rights of an artist to express himself freely when the art is something they approve of yet, not only criticize the artist but speak as if he had no right to free expression when they disapprove of his art. I'm not mentioning any names, but if you read the comments below you will understand. Even if that commenter is correct, was it not the author's right to create and portray the characters in his story any way he chose?

I think this is the best reading of this book but it feels like a different version than my book. Some words are changed.

@me-zo6yg David Clarke is the narrator. I'd be surprised if he also translated it. This has been asked elsewhere here in the comments, and all I've gathered so far is that it isn't the Robin Buss translation.

Little known fact Alexander Dumbass was famous for his prize winning turnips and his 'marras ' (marrow's) were a sight to behold when he wasn't writing classics he could often be seen lovingly tending his council allotment he also invented an early microwave but sadly passed away before electricity 😐
