I mean the game is far from perfect, I've been playing it on my own (and only now started watching Dan's playthrough) and I also was frustrated by some of the game mechanics. I got penalised for presenting something that was accepted some time later and things like pressing every single sentence, waiting for Mia to give you some revelation that suddenly changes everything... Game is lots of fun but not perfect and I get why Dan was frustrated

the fact that rt thinks the whole spirit channeling thing is bullshit has me fearing for what he's gonna think of the next trials considering the amount of ass pulls it's gonna do bc when he does call it out i can sense the amount of back and forth between defensive (AND BACKSEATING) chat isnt gonna be pleasant. tbh i hope he tries to go the joseph anderson way of approaching this game which is to mostly go along for the ridiculous ride the writers have to offer but i cant really dictate how rt's gonna approach the game. @@CntRational Yeah. It's supposed to be kinda bullshit in that Phoenix is too inexperienced of a lawyer to turn things around without Mia's help. Case 4 is where he really comes into his own as a lawyer, since he still needed Miles' help to win Case 3. And even then, he doesn't truly surpass Mia until the third game.

@@Birthday888 Taking down Redd White was Mia's life's mission to the point that it's implied to be the reason she became a lawyer, so it's only fitting that she gets to deal the final blow, so to speak. Turnabout Sisters really just have it's ending riding on a very forced twist. It does get better and less situational, like not just, randomly receive evidence out of nowhere Also trauma in this game does not get flashed out. Like. Never. Trauma? Not a thing apparently.
@Carolina-pr2ug
@Carolina-pr2ug 3 жыл бұрын
well there's Miles' trauma with the whole DL-6, Phoenix's trauma making him fear about losing people or failing them, and Ema's. And in later games we have Phoenix's again, Maya's, Godot's, Apollo's (like 4 times lol), Trucy's, Athena's... @@saxolot2810 To be fair, Maya was being held hostage by a professional assassin hired by a psychopath who was forcing Phoenix to betray his ideals as a defense attorney or Maya would be killed. On the other hand, Aura was a desperate individual who suspected someone else had committed the crime her brother had committed. Her hostages were the only leverage she had, so it wouldn't make any sense for her to kill them, and she only really wanted to get to the truth behind the crime her brother had allegedly committed, so Phoenix isn't compromising his ideals nor were the hostage's lives at risk during the trial.
@saxolot2810

@@Birthday888 but thats the thing about it, if Aura wasn't satisfied with the result of the trial, she would kill them, after all, the whole premise of the case is creating a tomorrow, after all, for her brother there was NO tomorrow, so Phoenix shouls have at least shown more reaction to it, it just felt unnatural
@Birthday888
@Birthday888 3 жыл бұрын
@@saxolot2810 Not really? The only outcome Aura would've been unsatisfied with would have been Simon being declared guilty, and he wasn't even meant to be present at the trial as the defendant was Athena. Win or lose, Simon was probably going to be acquitted, which means Aura has no reason to keep holding hostages. And Phoenix already suspected that Athena wasn't guilty and that there was an unknown third party involved, even before the trial begun. You also have to remember that Phoenix is now considered a legend in the defense attorney business, and that's reflected in his behavior. From any perspective but his own, he always seems perfectly composed and in control. If there's one thing he's confident in, it's finding the truth. The game developers explicitly set the sixth game in Kurain because they felt as if Phoenix couldn't be properly challenged within his familiar trial system.

I get why RT got frustrated with the bit where he had to press everything in one go, but the game literally tells you earlier (and he played it all in one session so like, in the same stream) "If you don't know what to do, just Press Everything". So it's not so much that the game didn't tell him, it's that he didn't consider that bit important and figured it was advice instead of a mechanic.

yeah, the game probably could have communicated that point better but it sucks that RT got so frustrated at what's supposed to be a really pivotal moment in the case. It's not supposed to be a forced fail! The game expects you to press EVERYTHING before you start chucking evidence at the wall. If you're not sure you have the right evidence, press everything! Save for one infamous exception (from a different game) there's no penalty for pressing. But I say this as a long time fan of ace attorney, so I understand that for someone new to the series that might not be obvious, plus playing for fun vs. playing to stream is a wildly different experience.

@TheViolaGuru

I wouldn't necessarily classify either the channeling component of the trial or the receipt having been in the evidence inventory the entire time as a deus ex machina. That would require the solution to come out of the blue with no set-up beforehand. While I'll concede that the channeling was perhaps not covered in enough detail beforehand to prepare the player for that particular manifestation of the Fey family's psychic capabilities, they do tell you the women in their line are intensely spiritual and possess unique abilities, so it's not completely out of left field. The receipt is also labeled as being from a department store in the inventory, though they don't let you examine it further to provide a trigger for Maya's powers. The fact that this requires the player to go through a "scripted fail," however, is a little difficult to swallow for me as well. That's really not the best game design because the object is to make you feel smart, like you figured it out yourself. Instead, the writers decided to let you struggle, by design, before giving you the answer, which only makes the resolution feel cheap and frustrating.
@Zaktot-ho8fe
@Zaktot-ho8fe 2 жыл бұрын
What's worse is that not only is there a piece of evidence that would probably work (the dated phone convo), but the actual solution of pressing on multiple times feels like it's the wrong thing to do. If they had some different dialog for each time you pressed on (IE phenix's questions become more exasperated) then the player would at least know that pressing on is advancing the story.
@TheViolaGuru
@TheViolaGuru 2 жыл бұрын
@@Zaktot-ho8fe Definitely a fair point. A lot of the time, they don't really make it very easy to tell whether you're even on the right track, so some additional attention to the dialogue would have made a huge difference and helped avoid frustrating the players quite so much.

I'm pretty sure if a lawyer has a personal connection to their client, it's a problem of conflict of interest. The lawyer will be more willing (and likely) to fabricate evidence to help the person they're defending if they know them personally. I think that varies depending on where you are, or what charges are against the defendant.
@tafejaavdey2592
@tafejaavdey2592 3 жыл бұрын
I think a conflict of interest is something that makes a person less likely to do their job good. Like a prosecutor prosecuting a case where a defendant is their friend. They would want to do their job badly. It is legal for a person to defend themself, and they defenetley would like to make sure they recieve a not guilty verdict. The same way you can defend yout personal friend (if you are a lawyer). It just can be awkward and being too emotionally invested can be hard for you.

Yeah not gonna lie, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone try keep trying evidence for that long, I didn’t even know you could stall it for that long. Genuinely thought he’d broken it somehow.

4:32:54 omfg 🤣 that's stupid beyond believe he literally called it but the game literally just *doesn't allow you to* More over *we already knew she didn't write the note* Plus the fact that the receiver had to go back to the hotel room was a totally valid point. *so the scripted linear path is total BS* (Also there was a ton of evidence you don't get use)

I’m a little late but for anyone who’s wondering: no, Phoenix could not have presented that wiretap as evidence as it was illegally obtained… in American court. However, this game is most closely modeled to Japanese courts with some American tradition mixed in, and Japan doesn’t have an exclusionary rule like the US which automatically voids illegally obtained evidence; instead, judges have a lot more leeway in what they decide can and can’t be admissible on a case-by-case basis, something that contributes to Japan’s **98-99% conviction rate.** Yes, 99% of people who come before Japanese courts are declared guilty.

While watching this I came up with the *best* lawyer story ever. Okay, so hear me out: A person gets accused of murder, and doesn't have a lawyer. When they get a state-appointed lawyer, they realize they'd lose if they didn't solve the case themself. The lawyer, new and inept, took the person's advice and made a reasonable case-- they almost won, even. During a recess or break or whatever, the prosecutor cornered the person and was like "yo, I'm a big bad guy defending a killer, etc, I'm a bad guy, totally, you won't win, so stop trying" (not like, word-per-word but you get the point, the prosecutor totally knew who the murderer was) and the defendant was all like "fuck you" and won the case, barely. Then, later, the defendant became a lawyer themself, and was consistently put against the other guy (and consistently won cases, always convinced the guy was covering for killers). It'd make a great story, and the plot-twist would be like, the fact that the person was the reason the guy made a total turn-around, and they were actually defending criminals the whole time bc of spite and stuff. It'd be so damned cool bro

I think RT is taking this a bit too seriously. Almost feels like he expected a regular down to earth court drama with some slightly out of the ordinary characters here and there, the Spirit Medium thing is just part of it, if he doesnt like that he should honestly just not continue the playthrough since spirituality and chanelling itself is and always will be a huge part of the series.
