Im fairly confident this works through finding words that commonly occour with the two words combined, if theres no sigficant value when combing with themselves it just returns the one element. The intial elements like steam or volcano are likely pre programmed. That or something called gloves where words are given values through ai that allows for some neat word tricks although in this case the number of words would be limited.
