Looks much better. Try rain on Bathurst and you really see how much the colourful adboards reflect on the road as you weave through the mountain.

I still can't believe the game didn't have Global Illumination until now, even Forza Horizon 4 had it, it just wasn't based on PatchTracing something so basic to gaming today and they just brought it to RT

I think the rtgi off screenshots also lack rt reflections and rtao, so not really a rtgi on vs off video, more like no rt vs full rt.

but...RTGI is literally "Ray Tracing Global Ilumination" The change it brings is in the reflection of light, the reflections are not that different compared to the standard RT

Good video, it makes the car look like 5% better from chase cam...thats about it. But it actually makes the tracks look worse....wth man... seriously with it On the tracks look like they now have GTR2 type of lighting and I know cause it still play and mod GTR2 all the time. We've come 20 years with all this tech just to make it look like an old game, wasted efforts imo :/. At least the cars look better, but 99% of the time I'm looking at the track while driving lol.

@@brianfunt2619 not to me its brightening and removing shadows unnaturally, resulting in a flatter looking image, the shadows were fine as is. Brightening up those shadows, it looks closer to older game engines. I know they want a path and ray traced look but hardware is nowhere near being able to do that. But you believe what you want to believe, your entitled to you own opinion, to me the tracks look worse.

@@brianfunt2619 nope, I know what it is and what they are trying to do, looks better with it off, its a case of "hey look what we can do!", then they end up overdoing it, it makes the objects closer to the horizon look flat, not pleasant and not realistic, go look at the houses down your street from one position, tell me if there are no shadows on those houses where the roof line is. Unless your vision is Really bad, you should see a really contrasted shadow during the day.

@@socksonfeet8125 It's not a "decision" to add bounce lighting to the structures, that's what happens when you more accurately simulate light.

RTGI prioritizes accurate light and shadow behavior, so if the car's interior isn’t directly lit or has small reflective surfaces, it can appear darker compared to the non-RTGI version, which uses less realistic lighting.

@GoldenGGR I understand this but. if you get into a real car on a sunny day, it won't be pitch black inside. because light reflects off surfaces and repeated reflections illuminate surfaces that are not directly illuminated by sunlight. you can see this in your video too. when with rtx enabled, shaded surfaces become lighter. but for some reason it doesn't work inside the car...

@@Teseus the exposure might be turned down because the game simulates how our eyes brighten and dim themselves when by dilating and contracting the pupil, the game reduces the exposure to make the bright light from the windows seem bearable and makes the interior dark

With RTGI this does not apply, Global Illumination is something basic that any game that tries to be realistic should be, but unfortunately, FM23, only brought with PatchTracing, something that was supposed to have without PatchTracing too...Forza Horizon 4 had global illumination working, unlike FM23 which took a year to release a basic feature...but brought it exclusively from RayTracing/PatchTracing
