RTL, 234 kHz, closing down long wave transmitter forever (Luxembourg)

This is the final sign off of the longwave station of RTL, in Luxembourg, on 1 January 2023. You can hear the identification jingle at 2300 UTC of 1 January 2023 and the abrupt closing of the transmission at midnight UTC. So another station leaves the air, after decades of activity.
Heard in Forlì, Italy, with Microtelecom Perseus and Wellbrook ALA-1530 active wideband loop antenna.

All because of a energy crisis, we have a lose a good strong LW broadcaster on 234 kHz heard for years. This needs to be reversed back on the air. LW is for long distance ground wave radio listening. During a HF black out, there is nothing on SW to listen to, but as for LW it's totally different, the propagation improves from 3 kHz to 300 kHz during a HF black out.

Since when do they transmit in french? The jingle seems right tho. What is this?

This was their French service on long waves, a very old service. Now it belongs only to the history of long waves, alas. In my recording you can listen to the last minutes of that history.

I believe that Luxembourg used to broadcast in French, German and either Dutch or Flemish when they weren’t in English!
