This put the tie off knot furthest away from the knife action. I also ran the cord under the sheath so virtually NO cord is exposed.

Get a hole punch or even just an awl. Punch some holes (maybe 3/16'' diameter) along the edges of the sheathe, just DONT punch through any stitching on the sheathe. Use leather cord (found at most stores) or paracord to loop through the holes and into the MoLLE.

ive always heard its best to be flat as possible on the front, so you can lay prone and get as close to the ground as possible if youre being shot at. on my carrier i have the spiritus systems elastic velcro insert that fits inside the big front pocket. it holds three mags in place and they stay well put for not having any sort of flap or active retention device. if trying to be flat on the front isnt a concern, then spiritus has some other options but they're pricey. condor isnt bad but its chi-com made

What are your thoughts on putting the knife on the shoulder straps of the pack? I have a kydex sheath coming for my 7 inch Ka-Bar. I was thinking of putting it on my left shoulder strap so I can access it while wearing the pack but it would not interfere with shouldering a rifle. My only thought is that I tend to strap my pack pretty tight. Also, I can see it getting in the way if I had to shoot from my left side. Seems everything is a compromise.
@RTTGunsGear4 жыл бұрын
Good question and thanks for commenting. I do mount tourniquets and radios to pack shoulder straps. However, these are packs that I don't normally use in tandem with a rifle. They are more backpacking/hiking packs. I'll answer using a different piece of gear. i generally warn people against running a knife on their chest rig or body armor straps because of rifle interference.

@mr.nobody682 жыл бұрын
I just did my KA-BAR a couple of nights ago. Here's my lessons learned: 1 You're tying a fucking knife to your backpack. Get the cheapest cordage you can find. It'll hold. 2 It's not hard to figure out. Just start lacing. I opted to tie one end of my $0.99/25ft line into a knot on the end of my sheath, and then I just didn't miss any holes, and knotted the other end. 3 Don't try to keep everything tight. Lace it up, and then pull it tight before tying the final knot 4 Right handed shooters should tie their knife to the left shoulder strap on their pack. I was finished before I discovered my fuckup

Worked well upside down on the 5.11 Rush 24 for my Shrade Leroy upside down. The purpose of the Shrade, to me, is a small machete/small camping axe, of lighter weight. It’s not the Eli thing. Right side up it’s not accessible, I tried the first not wanting to defy gravity. It’s a bit large on the combat molle belt, plus it would be crowded. The positive snap on the scabbard holds the Shrade tight backed up by the Velcro lash.
@CowboybubPercussion Жыл бұрын
Theres a better way to tie this off for sure… this is a way to weave it granted, but I like to lace mine in a way that tucks the knot I tie under the sheath, this is more secure as it’s less likely to get caught on things, and it just in general looks better hidden away

you should be able to remove the mag pouches. attach the sheath. then replace mag pouches. building out this type of gear (MOLLE) is sometimes a tedious process. as mentioned in this video, he showed having to pull the cordage out and retry a different method. sometimes it means getting everything set, then going out and training with the gear to find out if it ultimately will work. even if its just worn while out on a short hike or ruck. you will quickly find if you could realistically wear your setup for an extended period of time while having it also be functional. can you shoulder a rifle as he mentioned? can you kneel, crawl, go prone? can you climb? can i go to the bathroom and carry another human while wearing it. doesn't matter if it looks cool on your gear if it doesn't function for you in use.
