There's a reason why he always says "it's a bad roll." Since Kite is a Conjurer, to make sure his Nen ability is in its strongest form (as pure conjuration as possible, which means without the use of other Nen types), he refrained from controlling the Slot's personality (basically the slot is an uncontrolled entity), since that would be adding in Manipulation-type Nen. An example of this is the Nen exorcist on Greed Island. He conjures up a Nen beast to consume Nen, but cannot control the Nen beast. So, in order to go past controlling the Slot, he always says "it's a bad roll", so that the Slot will always try harder to give Kite the "best roll" in every situation. In fact, every single roll that the Slot gave was perfect in each incident. Kite successfully kept his Nen strong by staying away from the use of other Nen types by manipulating his Nen Slot just with his words.

Curtis Hsiung i disagree, ging basically forced this ability onto kite, since its “fun” to get random weapons regardless of the situation. I relate so much to ging, randomness is super fun. Even kite seems pissed off with this ability, and if you pay attention to some of the dialogue between kite and killua, you can deduce that kite didn’t even choose this ability and gets pissed off at it cuz his mentality is very methodical and optimal which contradicts his power, creating the iconic line “damn bad spin”.

I agree partly with Curtis Hsiung, the randomness is the restriction he puts on the Nen ability to make it stronger. Like How Netero has to pray every time before he unleashes he move or how feitan has to get hit and take damage before releases his ability. These are all restrictions they place to make their ability stronger just like how Kurapika placed a restriction on how he will use the prison jail only on Phantom troupe members.

If you remember back when they trained with, he said that everyone had Nen. Most just don't know how to access it. That is where training comes in. Zepe was using Nen back when he made the pot that Gon found. Zepe knows nothing about nen. The Ants are basically the same. What you are seeing with Ramolt is what Wing did to Gon and Killua when released nen from their bodies. He did it gently. Gon and Killua did it violently with Ramolt. The reason the ants can see Nen is because of there animal side. It was stated before that animals learn nen to a small extent to survive as animals use zetsu to hide there presents while hunting and can sense a hunters dangerous intentions and run away. Now that being said this doesn’t mean animals are nen masters all they can do is very simple task with nen and that unknowingly. This is why ants could see and feel nen right when there born but nonthing more till you open there aura like a human.

The Chimera Ants are kinda just born able to see nen if they're strong enough. Or at the very least, sense it. Remember the spider that fought Pokkle? It was able to catch the Rainbow Arrow but it wasn't able to see it. Think of it as an animal instinct I guess.
