I thought that it was implied that rather than using getsuga, he released his spirit energy to enlarge Engetsu to prove a point on the size of a captain level soul reapers zanpakuto before Grand Fishers death, even if it would be a small or even petty act after Grand said Isshin had no knowledge of soul reaper lore. I could easily see it being Getsuga tho. I think my only thing is that generally whenever they do a dark screen with a sword slash the slash tends to be in a crescent.

Grand fisher is a captain level arrancar because of his big sword that represents his massive spiritual pressure. Only soul reapers that achieve captain's level can control the size of the zanpaktou. Ichigo's dad is so strong because without any shikai or bankai just base level,he just sliced captain level arrancar in half!
